Last weekend (Feb 29th) the wood ducks at the dock started transitioning to their spring pattern of looking for a place to nest, so we had to scramble and get "their" nesting boxes up before they found somewhere else to nest. We couldn't let them down!! We wanted to get this video out ahead of other scheduled videos like the fence build, so here's Bonus #9. Hope you enjoy the video as much as we like watching these amazing creatures!!

Wondering what you put out for feed? Looks like they really like whatever it is

@@jesserolli7711 Whole corn but they also get in the bird feeders and clean that out too!

Great effort to provide nesting and food for the Wood Ducks. We live in North Orlando 52 years and have wildlife videos on UA-cam. 8 years to finally video 14 “jump” out!! After years of absence a pair came to visit yesterday. I hope I can get a new box built in time for them [now age 85] but will need help getting the box installed on the post for sure!! Thanks for your video and supporting the Wood Ducks [my favorite wild life]

We've seen up to 3 different broods due to these boxes in on year. Every fall we take them down and every spring we put them up....if we are slow putting them up, they sit in that area of the marsh and hang out!

I really enjoyed this! Wood ducks are so pretty. I can just picture the pedal boat scene…they are so slow! Lol. Great video, Guys!

So how is the fishing at your dock? That is such an awesome place!

As a kid growing up in VA, wood ducks were elusive, so it's so cool to have dozens to watch everyday now! There are redfish, speckled trout and when it rains a lot, bass in the bayou but not in big numbers. The problem is the sand gnats (no see 'ums) will eat you alive at dusk and dawn on the coast -- so we never fish off the dock. Thanks for dropping by Lucas. Take care. Brad&Deb

Seeing ducks was just a way of life when I grew up in MS. We had all kinds of species and wood ducks were everywhere. Lots of homeowners and farmers make these boxes for the wood ducks, too. I don't see many ducks now in WA. We have them, but it doesn't seem like we have as many ducks as we have geese. Baily sure looks sweet. I had a few Cockers a while back and they were awesome dogs but could get a little snippy. Nice work putting this all together, Brad and Deb! Have a great weekend!

Seeing these ducks everyday are part of our life now and we even get the occasional invasion into our lawn as they chase bugs. Bailey's hanging in there somehow and fending off Bella the best she can with her one semi-good eye! Thanks for watching David. Take care. Brad&Deb

Great job setting up these nesting boxes, those ducks are beautiful 👍🏻. I did something similar with Robins last year. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend to you both 🙂🙋🏼‍♂️👍🏻.

@Piney Grove Homestead - Tractors and Outdoors that was a good idea putting a lid over hole to stop crows...those crows are a pain around here, and smart..when I step out with gun they take off, can't get close ..thanks for the tips !

im a wood duck box noob. I've never heard that they wont use boxes that can see other boxes etc. Is that a thing? We have a few VERY small lakes that historically attract wood ducks, but I wanted to put two or three boxes probably in a few acres. Thoughts?

Do it!! We have baby wood ducks each year. It's awesome to watch them grow up!

Enjoyed the video, how cool you have done that over the years and the growth of the duck population. Hopefully you can do something like that at the new place with the pond.

I have counted 100 wood ducks around our dock in the past....had about 40 this morning. And yes, at the farm, the surrounding area is full of ponds so there are wood ducks close. We had a hooded merganser in the pond this winter, so that's something.... Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

Liked your video. I also have a duck box that started as an owl box, it's about 25 ft. up a tree. I have a camera mounted inside and posted some video's. The jump is a little scary to watch but in 4 years 41 ducklings have jumped unharmed.

That is too cool!! We've only seen the baby ducks jump out out once or twice.🦆 Kapper Outdoors has a goose nesting box with a cam in it that's pretty cool. Thanks for stopping by. Brad&Deb

    Dimensions???

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  Рік тому

We didn't list the dimensions of our boxes because they are not the recommended size like you can find on Ducks Unlimited or other sites. We used the cypress lumber we had and made the entry hole larger than recommended. Here's their link: www.ducks.org/conservation/waterfowl-research-science/build-a-wood-duck-box
