I love that he started a swift revolution in his garage and while it is a small drop in the sea of wild endangered species, it is definitely a game changer for these little birds. Imagine them having a holiday home to return to every year 😊❤❤ Couldn't be more proud of him, kuddos from Paraguay!
Seeing news like this restores my faith in humanity, especially from an older generation. Sometimes it feels like only young people are actually caring about wildlife and the planet but seeing people like John are truly inspiring ❤
Thanks for helping nature, we should all take small actions and grow them big 😊. Love from Belgium🇧🇪 where we also see less swallows and less insects...😒
This did my heart good. I love birds. I just bought special decals the other day from the wild bird store because birds keep flying into my window. They need our help.
John what a retirement!!!! You are such a great example of a hero. Oh...but yes you are because you are taking awesome action to make a difference. I am inspired and will be making my own swift box. Thank you so much for your hard work. What a lovely, unassuming man.
"We're an animal at the end of the day" - John, the legend. We have to remember that we are animals too. We might be sentient beings but we are the caretakers of our natural world!
What an absolute star! We need more nature heroes like him. And thank you, Sam, for giving us some much-needed hope. We need more of you too! Governments, of the world, take notice!
That's Incredible John. I have a family of Swallows who returned for the second time this year, mended their nest and settled in. Their nests are made out of mud.❤ ❤❤
Great feel-good video! John is an inspiration to other retirees to continue making a positive impact in their local community, whatever energy they can share. Purpose is important for longevity! ✌🏼
What a wonderful man, a big heart. We need more people like John xxxx We're making swift wool caves to help the babies at our craft group. We should ALL help nature more, it's us that's destroying their homes (which I hate) , we need to do something xxx
5 years ago a swift decided that the roof above my room had a suitably small crevice to breed in. They come back every year. The nest is right above my window, so i can sit there and watch these incredible birds do their maneuvres from up close. I do my best to be quiet, and i shut down my wifi and mobile networking when i'm staying in that room for prolonged periods. I recon these animals are so sensitive to electromagnetic waves, it'd be best to reduce the amount for their young. And as they're here only for 3-4 months, it doesn't bother me. Glad to give 'em a place to live.
Brilliant we all need to be more like John, we are lucky where we live we have quite a few swifts , they absolutely fascinate me , they are so fast and elegant ❤
So inspiring! Thank you John for doing this and for inspiring others (like me) to take care of our little winged friends ❤️ We really can make a difference
Thanx for being a diligent student and recognising the expertise of the craftsman🙌 his is a very practical diy skilled generation. One love for the baby boomers💚💛❤️🖤
Thanks to people like these, incredible animals can have a place to live. This man does things that will have a lasting influence on the world. Well done!
John - you bring us hope and inspiration! Thank you for your important contribution and thank you Sam for bringing these stories to us. They mean so much in a time of climate anxiety and feel so empowering, which I think is exactly what we need to make people feel in order to solve our overwhelming global challenges ❤️
Hi John, I'm a tad younger than you (77) amd also a Swift lover. I grew up in Brighton and the first house I bought was not too far from the town centre. The area had a large population of Swifts and I used to enjoy a cold beer or two watching them. Geoff.
That's amazing. Such a cute and interesting bird! He gives the Swifts a home in their journey, and they give him joy. I think that's a great exchange. I am curious though, would it not have been a challenge for them, before the housing development, to find crevices? Even in trees that were there before development?
John is an inspiration. Swifts don't nest in trees, so before houses they would be nesting in crevices in rock faces. The real decline in nest sites comes from houses having plastic soffit boards retro fitted under the eaves. This has covered up so many old nest sites which would have been used for generations. As the swifts are here for such a short time the people fitting them would be unaware of the nests. Hope this helps to answer your good question 😊
This video has eased my stress about what is going on in the Middle East. I’ll show it to my students, 2 of whom are from Palestine. All the best John. From Australia
