  • Have we change as a culture and a community since this episode aired or are we cursed to repeat the cycle forever #boondocks #animation #review #explore #adultswim

I’m a white guy but I have deep respect and love for the black community and have had that respect my whole life. This episode was wild to me when it released and every time I rewatch it I can’t believe how much things have changed and have stayed the exact same all at once. Truly a masterpiece of an episode. Nice video man.

Same. I watched it with my dad when it came out here in Sweden and it definitively stuck with me.

This episode aged like the finest wine ever, and even though that's not necessarily a good thing since these problems still exist, it is comforting to know that Aaron McGruder and you and many others truly have seen these problems and try at minimum to identify that. I do hope that the black community can rise up beyond the limiting structurally racist and socioeconomic limitations through historical precedent and we can all finally establish a proper way forward where we are truly on the same basic level, and not just through mealy-mouthed corporate diversity standards that pretend we've achieved MLK's dream.
On a separate note, voice acting legend Kevin Michael Richardson absolutely killed it as the Great MLK. I giggle at how so many voices in this episode are him, and then he switches right into MLK. This man is one of the great actors of our time.

As a fan of the newspaper comic strips, the moment I first saw an advertisement for the show on a bus in the Bronx a few months before the original air date, I already knew this was going to be elevated to one of my favorite shows *at the time.* It ended being one of favorite joints *of all time* actually.

MLK was extremely hated when he passed, because he began talking more pro labor and anti-capitalist rhetoric. Add in his anti war stance, it all fell in line with his Christianity. Something I respect as an atheist. A lot of the people pretending to love him now, actually hated him back then. At the very least, they wanted to stick their heads in the sand and thought the social justice warriors of the civil rights movement were rocking the boat too much. Not much has changed since then. In fact, it was actually extremely easy for the powers that be (the same ones from before) to get people to turn against BLM, anti-fascist activism, SJWs, etc. So in some ways, things have changed for the worse om that level. I don't think its possible anymore to have a successful mass civil rights movement the way we had back in the day.
Switching gears a little bit... People love to say that Aaron predicted the degradation of Black society, and in my mind I'm just like "this is what life was like *back then."* He's literally telling contemporary stories based out of that era. People love to act like this current ratchetness is something created by the current younger generations when B.E.T.☆ Uncut existed then. Akinyele and Freaknik existed before that even. If _The Boondocks_ had existed 10 years earlier in the 90s, we would've had similar amazing stories.

Anytime I talk to a Conservative (and even Moderates) about MLK's Socialist stances, it's either:
      1. They pretend he wasn't
      2. Tell me he was just wrong
      3. Denigrate him completely
MLK as a remembered figure has been "white washed". Only thing ever brought up is his "I have a dream speech" which is only 1 moment of his long fight. I guess Ronald Reagan knew what he was doing with MLK Day...
There is, sadly, no room for his Socialist stances in modern Capitalist America. That might change after the boomers die off (who were basically raised during the Red Scare), but knowing the powers that be I'm highly doubting it. The Capitalists were concise when they killed Left-Wing Economic Theory starting in the Late 30's.

The R Kelly episode was what got me watching, but this episode is the one that made me a fan. I went out and bought the Boondocks books after that.

Whenever I'm watching a reaction video of this show, and the _Soul Plane_ bashing starts, and the person reacting says that they actually like soul plane... I actually lose a lot of respect for them. In some cases, they don't even know that _The Boondocks_ is dissing _SP_ like that. Which is even worse than those just saying they like it🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

A black guy from the UK told me that hood culture has ruined the plight of the black man. What do you think of that statement?

It's depressing to see the current state of our people. A lot of us went from praysing people like Dr. King to people like Sexy Red.
    Also great video

I saw this episode when i was 9 and legit cried at the end. This was easily the least funny Boondocks episode for me and hit way too close to home.
