Finally....Canada did not embarrass itself while acquiring a DND asset. Hopefully, this will start a trend.....

hey, you guys missed a big advantage of bombardier's jet. They are physically invisible not only on radar, but also on humans' eyes. Just like the invisible waterloo streetcar and invisible ttc streetcars.

It’s about time the government realizes the necessity for Canada to have a proper military! The government needs to dump more money into the security of our nation!

Yes, Canadian companies benefit, but Ottawa needs to start building equipment here under license.

You don’t sound like you are being honest Bill

It's the right plane. It's proven itself for decades as a surveillance aircraft. Any other plane would have been a typically dragged out Canadian development project, years late, over budget, over customised, and hard to service when overseas whereas the P8 MPA is a known entity where-ever it flies.

Its about time Canada got smart. They need this plane now. This anti-sub, anti-ship, and surveillance capabilities are a must to protect the nation's sovereignty especially the arctic region. Don't be surprised drones will be a part of this P-8 Poseidon venture.

  • @TheAmbex

Oh, the Canadian company doesn't have one ready? Maybe we should have started five years ago. Oh, but Bombardier is a partner with Airbus who do have surveillance aircraft ready to go. This was dumb. Ireland just received their Airbus C295 maritime surveillance aircraft.

  • @realscience948

The P8-A Poseidon is a very capable aircraft...widely used by friends!

  • @Hkhan23

I wonder which politicians filled their pockets with this deal

  • @MikeH-sg2ue

Paying the troops more will help keep some of that talent he was talking about!

  • @user-bg7zm7sq8k

Canadian government has always gone to the cheapest bidder and always we end up with crap that we can't use so waste of money, I don't know much about surveillance planes but if this Boeing has been tested and is reliable and proven its capabilities over the year. I think they did the right thing over spending money in something yet to be developed and tested

  • @Leah-br6xu

Does Bombardier have the ability to fulfill an order if they received an offer (instead of Boeing) from the gov?

  • @Mopar-Pioneer

I wonder how much Boeing paper found its way into his pocket ???????

  • @darrinculpepper6579

Canada has 85 F-18 fighter aircraft and only 50 operational pilots.

  • @pauly5418

Canada can still develop a surveillance plane that meets other possible needs. The US doesn't have just one type of surveillance plane...they have several.

  • @camf7522

The selection of the P8A is hardly controversial in any way. For countries with small militaries, of the shelf is just makes sense.

  • @darrinculpepper6579

Bombardier is doing nothing but delaying the safety of Canada. They have a decent commercial market. Best they get a prototype built before delaying the immediate demand of a Maritime Patrol Aircraft.

  • @JBurt13

Canadians complain if there is a drawn out competition to purchase military assets. We complain if we buy something right now when needed. Its just like a Canadian talking about the weather.......never happy. Our military needs the right tools for the job, right now. Not decades from now, after lengthy and time / money wasting competitions. The Canadian government finally grew a pair. Its about time.
