In February 2021 Eric Clapton’s live shows at The Royal Albert Hall were canceled due to the global pandemic. Determined to play, he brought his band together in the English countryside. In the absence of a live audience, he decided to record the performances. This release is the culmination of their sessions together at Cowdray House, West Sussex, England.
It's heart breaking that these awesome people are getting old.
Except for incredible Nathan East. He looks as he’s been frozen in ice since 1990
True but once they are gone, they would have left a vast musical legacy behind for us to enjoy.
That's the beauty of the music : age has nothing to do with taste and talent.
@@JudgeFredd That's a true statement, just turn on the radio and listen to the crap this generation has to offer now! And this Rap Crap Sucks and doesn't take any talent, just a bunch of BS in a Loop with a beat!
What an idiotic statement.
I really love the way the Layla riff sits in Eric’s solo. Pure class.
Eric, if you are in here. Your music means so much to me it’s impossible to put into words. All I can say is thank you.
Ver very...grate...!!👌
This song is a very important sign too for me a long time. Makes me only good feelings and relax me in every possible way.

Eric's voice and playing are still strong, he sounds great.
Would agree that his voice is still OK, but playing? So sorry to say, but no..
@@ramazanbaris2349 I agree he's perfect, yay GOD! 😆
This is my favorite song, of all time ever, this tempo is the best too, because she is slow... Ugh this man never ages.
@@ramazanbaris2349 come on most guy at his age won't even be able to play anymore.
@@ramazanbaris2349 I agree his soloing is pretty generic now, but I think he recognises that. The album is nice and chill, fitting for his age
#EricClapton I pray that this message somehow reaches you. I gave birth to my only daughter in 2007. She's the love of my life. I named her after this song. Thank you for writing such a beautiful work of art so that I could give my daughter her beautiful name who is the greatest and most beautiful work of art I've ever laid my eyes on. Thank you, I love you.

Steve Gadd is the secret weapon here. Not many drummers can do finesse so well; this is almost like a Keltner drum performance. So tasty. His time is impeccable.
my mom loved this song so much she named me Layla, honored to have it!
That's so special, Layla :). This is actually my fav song😊
Named my daughter the same for the same reason

Маэстро- это, без преувелисения, одна из выдающтхся песен всех времен. Спасибо Вам за удоволььствие. Как жаль, что сейчас так мало выдающихся музыкантов.
32yo from Turkey, i raised with Eric Clapton's songs, i'm big fan of him. Wish him a long and happy life. Hope to qatch his concert live someday. Greetings from Turkey
An absolute grandmaster of the guitar. Long live Eric Clapton

My dad used to listen to Clapton all the time! I then found out Clapton and I have the same birthday, always feels special listening to him!
Eric: Thank you so many years of inspiration. My 29 years of guitar playing has been heavily influenced by your pursuit of excellence. The guitar is an amazing tool; it enables us to express a myriad of emotions. I'll play mine until my last day.
Eric, you’ve still got it!
I was born in 99. So without a doubt i never really got in touch with older music. Thankfully my former guitar teacher told me to listen to Eric then BB and everytime we met he told me ayy you ever listened to *insert name of a legendary player here*. Im not really good at playin guitar but i sure listen to great music all day long.
Thanks for everything Olli !
Age is just a number for the legend . Look how smoothly he kills the solo at the end.
Clapton is the master, his music only becomes more refined and silky, yet held in simplicity now, leaving behind any periphery, any unneeded extra's, making him a "master. It is pure joy to listen to his sound. Seems he has always been in my life, his music is an old friend. Now, he grows old, and I also grow old, but his sound is even better with time, pristine, gentle and always a gift. It reflects Eric's authenticity from a soul level. He is his own. Thank you Eric for all the years of pure musical bliss. Sara Weslow
Just the same as I feel, I admire his fascinating enchanting simplicity, no any torsion, no bellow even has power enough that I can't stop watching & listening him and the others of course
.And these carpets on the wall and floor!
same here !
Same with Paul, Elton, really all of the old rockstars are still that are still going have only gotten more refined imo.
Agree with you, Sara! God bless you!
The solo with the lick from the rock version integrated in it was 🤌🤌
Ladies and gentlemen. We are watching true talent at its best. These men came from a time where everyone involved had to know exactly how to play, be on the same page and practice for hours if not days! True musicians. Paving the way for future musicians!
The solo by Chris Stainton on keyboard is just so beautiful
Clapton singing "Layla...." in this recording is the most soothing thing I've heard. His performances aren't flashy anymore and yet so heartfelt! Only getting better with age, my EC.
Adorable video this is.... keep em coming!
Agreed, brother.
The actual riff in the acoustic version, Love it. Clapton is God
Eric...50 years of playing and I'm still emulating you. You are and always will be my favorite guitarist!
Old? You’ll never lose the art of music no matter how old you get. Thanks Eric for keeping us going thru such a terrible time here in the states. 🎸🎸🎸
he made such a great song that has been still popular after 50 years. I have been listening that song literally every day for 8 years. what makes that song so imperishable is not only the lyrics or music, but also its the story behind it. Thanks Mr. Clapton, You won't be forgotten.
Nice to see that "Slow Hand' is back and looking healthy! Stay well, Sir Eric Clapton.
Every time I think there is nothing that Eric Clapton can surprise me with, he manages to take me for an amazing journey I never expected to experience again.
Quality truly stands the test of time.
Eric definitely hasn’t lost his touch. A true. legend.
LEGEND NEVER DIE. HE LIVE IN NY EAR AND MY YEAR.
Best ever! Mature, easy....smooth!
Wow I love this song and it melts my heart anytime I listen to it. Are you a music lover?
This version was spectacular, it managed to extract the best possible sound from each instrument, and each one was well placed with its arrangements.
let’s thank the true icon of this song, my queen pattie. amen 🕺🏼
I really enjoy listening to Eric's voice. I hear his heart well in his voice. Every sound he makes is his voice.
It was absolutely great to see and hear Eric Clapton and other musicians jamming out Layla.
Even his mates smilled surprised when played the electric version. I dont know why i drop tears every time i see him enjoying playing... maybe his Blues is a mirror of my own pain... beautiful.
Re-inventing his own music. Clapton still has it and even more. Thank you Sir for the joy you brinh in so many hearts and souls.
Stay blessed.
Everyday , Every day I got the blues because I never got to see a Crossroads Guitar Festival with all of you. Not a day a day goes by I do not play a version of this song while I sit at my desk working I play Eric all day long.
That Martin sounds incredible in his hands.
Hey there Eric. Listening from the Dominican Republic. We're with you. Those of your friends who believe differing views have no room in friendships are just blinded by fear. Don't blame them. Let's spread the love. It's so scarce in these divisive times...
Have always loved the sound of Eric Clapton's fingers on an acoustic guitar.
Thank you, Eric, your music always soothes my Soul. We are the same generation and I followed you from the beginning. xx
Clapton you are really amazing I hope this beautiful art never runs out
Oh my god, as always so perfect... The solo that Eric performs is so touchy. You can see it in the eyes of Steve Gadd (drums) and Chris Stainton (piano), like "hey, he's playing like it's gonna be the last one, from his soul. And we are with you, pal, we can feel it"
A true voice for freedom. What a legend
Swithout you as my Fan I have you to be most thankful for 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Not enough’s ever been made of Eric’s voice, it really is special
Eric is one of the only musicians today I can say hasn’t deteriorated in his playing. He’s so good and solid at his age. Very much respect goes to him and his band. Truly amazing to see this. If only Bobby Whitlock and Chris Stainton could back him up together. Saw him live with Billy Preston before he passed. So cool. 🎸
Another old timer who still plays amazingly well is Richard Thompson If you don’t know of him, please check him out.
@@frontroom I do not know him and will check him out, thank you.
This man has finally come to the pinnacle of his plane You could feel the soul the rhythm coming from his body into that guitar and it's just speaks finally we are witnessing the birth of a true legend! I am sincerely glad I'm here to witness it.
As a "slow" guy, as 77 he's on his pinnacle
Clapton is 76 and still plays & sings better then me, Im starting to suspect this will never change...
He could play this song a 1000 times in a 1000 different ways. We love you slowhand.
Swithout you as my Fan I have you to be most thankful for 🌹🌹🌹🌹
4:27 love Chris Stainton's smile when he ears the Layla's riff
Eric, you created the best song in history. I am Iranian and when I was 10 years old, the first foreign song I listened to was your song. I hope you will always be alive and play for us forever.❤️🙌🏻
I love Eric Clapton.

I like that Clepton, unlike other musicians of his age, doesn`t surround himself with people 40 years younger
Yes!
After a cover of Black Magic Woman (I actually had knew Clapton from his contribution in While My Gutar Gently Weeps), I then searched more of Eric Clapton's performance in UA-cam, Layla is one of it , and, boy, after seeing some of his performances, I proudly announced myself as a fan of Eric Clapton. Now, we finally get Lady In Balcony session' Layla and it is indeed a bless for everyone ear. Hope we can see more of Lady In Balcony session. You are indeed one of greatest guitarist alive. Thank you very much Eric Clapton and band!
This was a beautiful comment to read, Ariel Te'a. Keep watching Clapton's iconic performances. There are so many songs already that you will definitely enjoy. After that, listen to blues music, too, if you haven't yet.
Excited for you!🤩🤩
I think I have watched and or heard everything Eric has done may I reccomend a few listen to I Shor the Sherrif from Crossroads 2004 then Old Love from 21 nights Royal Albert Hall I noticed they turned off the comments for all the other Lady in the Balcony o you tube .
...had "known"
Performances like this is why I love and have loved EC since I was 10 years old. He constantly evolves as he passes through the years. Layla is my most favourite song and this has got to be my new favourite acoustic version. There are so many on YT but this, this seems to have tasteful, classy wisdom to it. His voice seems to have developed a ‘melancholiness’ about it that just fits now as he enters into his elder years. No matter how many times the other three have played with him, I think they are still in awe of being there, in the moment, playing music with EC. Look a Chris Stainton’s smile when Eric includes the main riff at the end of his solo, a rare thing to hear on Acoustic Layla. Just beautiful..
After such a long time you can still feel emotions in this masterpiece.
I quess I will be in love with this song until the end.
3:29 really love the epiano solo here, amazing sound with the modular
Mr.Clapton, you are an absolute master, I wish you good health and happiness.
Ah man...Steve Gadd and Nathan East make the groove float around effortlessly...They are all timeless musicians. 👍

Chris on keys with a jazzy blues vibe brings that extra something special to the party.
Steve on drums keeping it steady & lively from start to finish , always love hearing him play.

Damn, I love the electric version of this so much, the passion, the energy is so in your face that no wonder it has been voted one the best love/rock songs ever. This version, however is on another level, yes he's done layla unplugged countless times before but this to me is the best rendition he's done so far, maybe because it's a back to basics, stripped to the bone, me and my mates with no pressure kind of mentality
Totally agree! This is the best rendition of "Layla" yet!!
I can't stop listen this song, all day , anywhere :) it's causing addiction to me.
During his solo, @ 4:25 / 4:30, he sneaks in (ever so quietly), "the riff". His usually ever so stoic keyboard player, looks over and smiles. Got me again. Beautiful.
I really love the Layla jazz version he did a couple decades ago.
What about Me. Gadd?!!
When God blesses you with talent like this and you share with the world we need to stop and listen to the musical genius you have so beautifully expressed

@Eric Clapton I'm getting more and more into the blues and i guess what Robert Johnson has been to you, you are now to me. Highly appreciate your work!
This is so chilled. it’s just appears effortless, in the best possible way. The MTV unplugged is a great version too but feels completely different and there is a live version on UA-cam where EC absolutely kills it on the guitar, high energy, it’s incredible. 3 versions of the same song, all totally different & all absolutely fantastic.

Awesome as always...all of them. Aging with grace...Clapton sounds and performs as stellar as he always has. I hope that I can do half as much and as well when I get to be that age.
This song hit home with me about 6 years after it was first recorded in 1970 when I was 17 . It was 1976 I was out of the Navy after a 4 year stay going to college and drinking downtown after playing on the beach all day in Calif . I was parked downtown in my Van , small college town with rich retired people in the big homes. I had the radio on as I lay in bed in the back of the Van 1972 Van all fixed up inside for camping , my shorty Boogie Van...lol.. I did alright with the girls in College but just was not finding the love of my life. I lost her when her family moved back to the Netherlands in 1970 . This song came on and seared itself into my brain followed up by Thorn tree in the garden ...That night those songs that feeling of love lost unforgettable ... fast forward to 2010 I found my lost Dutch love she was still in the Netherlands and she came to me in the USA . Her marriage was over she had her kids they were grown and gone . We held in our hands a fairy tale ending it was not an easy ride I went to her in Holland and bought a used car and took her out of her lousy rented room to France an ancient small rental rock house in Huelgoat was to be our start . Everything that could go wrong went wrong while we were there she fell for the single man next door in the big house he used and rejected her she came back to me the next day but my heart was broken for good this time after several years of trouble. I took her back to the Netherlands and gave her the car and I got on an airplane and back to the USA I went. We talked online over the year I went back to visit...no good...bought her another used car and furniture for her apartment . We talked online again...we will be friends so I bought a used car for me in her name in the Netherlands for me to see Europe in. She wrecked my car the man gave her 2 thou euro she added 500 from the sale of the 2 nd car I bought her to that and went and bought another car and that was that...Not so much as a thank you I never even got to drive " My car " also during that time she took up with a gay man he would spend weekends or a week night with her at her place it was not fun to see his face pop up on a skype call with her on a Friday at 4pm start of their 3 day & night long weekend... I learned one cannot go back at least this one can't...She was better as a lost love in 1970 ....she turned my whole world upside down...sorry for this long rant...I blame Eric Clapton....lol... I fade out with , Thorn tree in the garden playing softly on the turntable record player ...I'm going to buy a big motorcycle and ride till it's over...make the best of the situation before I finally go insane..
What a fantastic version. Steve Gadd, Nathan East, Eric...what a line-up:)
Beautiful to hear the lyrics. It's a lament....Layla. Smooth and lovely. Still as passionate. Thank you.
