Love 250's! Had a RM 250 and put a full FMF and carburetor stack and carbon fiber reed's and weisco piston. Raced it for nearly 5 year's.
It was a little bit of an underdog compared to the KX's but that helped me put power to the ground instead of spinning so much, or at least that's what I thought. My first race ever I placed 5th which surprisingly was actually a trophy for 5th place.
I'm too old to race outdoor motorcross now but it was one of the best times in my life, traveling the state and racing and hanging with friends! Nothing beats it!!

But within a few months I was practicing with an expert from boulder who had a paintless dent repair company and he taught me a lot about shutting the door and few other scrub trick's that way before the bubba scrub.

If I wanted to blow some of the grease out of some bearings, or perhaps just lightly damage some seals, would a pressure washer work ok? I've used just a bucket of soapy water, an old rag, and a water hose before, and all it does is get the bike clean.

I am with you, (60 here). Abstract art has no place on my functional dirt bike. I guess the factories hared artists from the Batman university of art. I out a 2014 front fender on my 2019 YZ250, cut off the stupid arrow tip from the rear fender, the long points of the air shrouds, and the bat wings off the rear of the dice number plates, and got rid of the front number plate that looks like the mythical god Thor's arm shield. I also lowered my bike to a reasonable height. Now it corners great, and does not look like the Bat mobile. I bought it after 18 years off. Everybody runs their handlebars high too today, and they don't corner worth a crap like that and makes it harder to keep your elbows up. We have entered an era of irrationality,--lost our ability to figure things out. Glad i am old.

Nice bike I have owned 3 YZ250's 1 YZ125 and started on a YZ80. I just sold my last 2018 YZ250 and I bought a 2022 KX450. I've never had a 4 stroke so I wanted to give it a shot but I miss my YZ250 2 stroke, they are awesome bikes! You should put an FMF pipe and silence on it, it will wake it up and it will sound amazing. That's the 1st thing I usually do when I buy a 2 stroke is change the exhaust and put Renthal twin wall handle bars on it but you are going to love that bike. The other thing is I always run Amzoil Dominator full synthetic 2 stroke oil, it's a 50:1 mixture, you just read the back of the bottle and mix it like it says & that oil is awesome for the motor, your motor will last a long time. My buddy owns his own motorcycle mechanic shop he went to school in Arizona he's a master tech and he's the one that recommended that oil.

That is such a bummer to me. The 1986 production rule, and the 4-stroke forced on the industry by the dictatorship EPA both raised the cost of a bike and put them out of a kids reach. In the 70's they sold 10 times more bikes, and I bought 3 brand new bikes 2 years apart making $1.00/hr part time at my Dad's store, from 12 to 16 years old.
      1976 Kawasaki KD125-$750.00, 1978 YZ100-$800.00, 1979 YZ125, $850.00 (new left over in 1980).

A break in process is not needed. In fact, the ring seats faster to the cylinder wall if you ride it where the higher torque is, as the combustion pressure slips over the ring and behind it, pushing the ring harder against the cylinder wall. When you tear down the top end for a new piston/rings, you can notice the ring is dirtier on the top than it is on the bottom, as evidence of what I say is true. I run brand new 2-stroke engines on my dyno, and beat the crap out of them as long as the jetting is good. There is no such thing as a engine failure from a improper break in. But if the rings don't seat fast, you can get tarnish build up on the cylinder walls, that can advocate "blow by".
