3:05, The Second Album, with The Richard Peterson Orchestra, featuring Eric McKaig doing the singing, I played all 4 Trumpet parts, along with piano & synthesizer, and more.
Gotta say this is my favorite STP album. I had all of them on casette in high school and just recently bought purple and tiny music on CD. Lol. Love 12 precious melodies.
I remember listening to the album in March '95. I was hearing the CD, and recording it onto a cassette tape for myself, loving the album, excited about having my copy of it on the tape. After the stunning climax of Kitchenware and Candybars, I remember this gigantic smile on my face upon the secret song coming on. I loved it, it made me laugh. I thought it was a great little coda that added a brilliant streak of humor after the actual album. "Purple" is a stunning album. Takes me back to being 15, and I like including the extra song in the album. Its great fun.
STAR WARS! Nothing but.... STAR Wars! If they should.... BAR wars Let this one stay! And hey! What about that crazy Cantina bar And all the crazy creatures that were in there And hey! Darth Vader in that black and evil mask Did he scare you as much as he scared me? Bill Murray Lounge Singer (SNL)
I love it when bands do these types of hidden tracks. A couple others that come to mind on iconic albums are Endless, Nameless at the end of Nirvana Nevermind, and Master/Slave at the end of Pearl Jam’s Ten. Also Abbey Road has Her Majesty at the end which didn’t appear on the original track listings.
Danzig did it on IV (Invocation is Track 66 after 53 3sec tracks) and Thrall - Demonsweatlive (Mother (Album version) is Track 93 after 85 4sec tracks)
Just subscribed & even bought a “Purple” shirt with the baby on the front. Between Purple & Tiny Music I can’t choose which STP album is my favorite. They both remind me of the “old days” in high school.
Thanks for the video. I've wondered about this for decades but never looked into it after sort of moving on from this record in my teenaged years which for me was still pre-internet back in the late 90s. It wasn't until I heard it again just moments ago while going back into the music of my youth that I finally felt the need to know.
I had the CD and knew about the hidden track as soon as I let the entire CD play out. Mainly because I noticed the last track time kept advancing during the break between it and the hidden track. I thought that was Scott singing too!
There were a bunch of bands around that time that had some wild ass secret songs, there was this one, the secret track off Green Day’s Dookie, and that crazy fucking song called “Bugs” that Pearl Jam put onto Vitalogy. White Zombie had a cool instrumental track at the tail end of Astro Creep. Kids today are never going to appreciate or understand secret tracks, because unless they tack it onto the end of a long ass file. Great work digging up the story behind this one, I always assumed the same thing and it was one of the reasons I always let my CDs or Cassettes play out until the very end-because I’d hate to miss a gem like this one. Offspring also had a neat instrumental secret track at the end of their album Smash, but they got weird with a spoken word intro and outro that always made me laugh, because it was such a dramatic juxtaposition like this one was compared to STPs music.
I never knew the story behind this track, so I learned something here! However, I heard it the very first time I listened to Purple, which was also on cassette. i had actually bought it for my friend and we listened to it at his house. I think we were just chatting after track 11 and then ...'Twelve gracious meeellooodiiies". We laughed our butts off, as I recall. I guess I sort of had assumed it was a bit ofa joke, too -- but it's actually a fun tune, and I like crooners, so... About hidden tracks in general, they were always, I thought, pretty obvious when they came at the end of an album. I think the real sneaky ones were the ones that came *before* the album, which you could only access with some CD players. You would put the CD on and then hit Search backwards. Don't know how they did it and I only had a few CDs that featured this trick.
Anyone know any other albums, (other than Blur's ''Think Tank'' and 2 Many DJ's ''As Heard On Radio Soulwax Part 2'') that have secret tracks that you have to rewind from track 1 on the CD to find?
I have a Robert Johnson 2 CD compilation, that supposedly has a bonus track at the end of CD 2, that you can only play once. When you play it one time, it gets erased, never to be heard again. Very odd. I never played it, because I already have the famous 2 CD set from 1990.
@@jameswilson7084 That is crazy! I assume you are talking about the blues artist. I thought there were only 29 songs that survived, I've got the ''Beg, Borrow or Steal'' Box set with Johnson's roots on CD1 (with The Mississippi Sheiks - Sitting On Top Of The World'' my favourite blues song) CD2 has Johnson's complete works and CD3 has artists that were inspired by Johnson. Well worth checking out if you can find it.
@@notyou1821 Yes, the blues artist. The mysterious bonus track isn't one of Robert Johnson's songs, it's just some random blues track. Users have written about it on the Rate Your Music website. I guess if I tried to upload it to my iTunes library, I could "capture" and hear what song it is. It's probably just an obscure song. The users aren't sure which song it is.
I got the clue IMMEDIATELY. "12 Gracious Melodies" - 11 listed tracks. I knew it was there before my older cousin ripped the plastic off of the case. lol
From what I’ve heard and if it’s true, you unfortunately left it out is that Frank Zappa did the vocals for that track. Would love to have confirmation on this if at all possible

AWESOME! Thanks for watching.

That hidden track always reminded me of “The Love Boat” for some weird reason.
I always loved “12 Gracious Melodies”
Me too
It's a good track.
I love lounge music, particularly the soft jazzy stuff you hear in 70s episodes of Columbo and so on.
Right on!
STAR WARS!
Nothing but.... STAR Wars!
If they should.... BAR wars
Let this one stay!
And hey!
What about that crazy Cantina bar
And all the crazy creatures that were in there

Gallons of rubbing alcohol flows through the strip is another great nirvana hidden song.

Glad I could help! Thanks for watching.
Thanks TJ, I also stumbled upon this song.
I love this album
Me too!
Reminds me of my early 20’s, when life was still easy.
I had the CD and knew about the hidden track as soon as I let the entire CD play out. Mainly because I noticed the last track time kept advancing during the break between it and the hidden track. I thought that was Scott singing too!
Good essay. short and sweet. thanks.
You’re welcome.
I heard it early on, fucking love this album, such a great period in music 🎶 🎵 ❤️

Manson was a master of hidden tracks even of all bands overkill.. overkill had a purple haze cover you had to rewind from like track 96
I've adored that song for, it's hard to believe, DECADES now. Had no idea it was a cover. Bravo, STP! I love you even more now!
I love that hidden track!
Me too.

That’s a great story!
Dude, I also thought it was a joke song performed by the members of STP. for a laugh. Great backstory here. I had no idea.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.

What about him referencing how his album cover looks like Johnny Mathis's album cever?
His 2nd album was an homage to a Mathis album cover.

In my research, I never found anything that alludes to that. He is not listed in the album credits in discogs.
I always thought it was a fun joke
