Rangemaster Mechanical Review | A retro-futuristic field watch stunner!

- I review the newest collaboration watch between TGV (The Urban Gentry) and Marc (Islander and Long Island Watch), the new Islander Rangemaster Mechanical. A retro-futuristic field watch inspired partially by the movie Starship Troopers. The watch also borrows elements from the Hamilton Khaki Field watches, and the venerable Tudor Ranger, but at the same time, it maintains it's own design identity. Looking for a Hamilton Khaki field, Tudor Ranger Rolex Explorer alternative for under $400, look no further.

I got mine yesterday and I absolutely love it!!! I’m not a fan of watches under 40 mm, but it’s not too small at all and the lume is very impressive.
I own this watch, very good. The gilded movement is beautiful.
Thank you for sharing your collecting story!
Very nice. Congrats on getting one, and thanks for showing it off. I ordered mine working minutes if the release. It should arrive on Monday 👍
I liked the original way more. The Sarb033 like case, 9000 series movement, and most importantly cleaner dial. Bummed i missed that one.... Oh well there will be others.
Wore mine today . Very nice 👍 thanks
To those worried about the size being too small. The smaller bezel makes it look the same size if not bigger than the first rangemaster.
Good review. I got one. Very comfortable on the wrist. Marc is hitting it out of the park lately. He has a GMT using the Miyota 9075 coming out and is working on a new chronograph. I told him he needs to have a telemeter on it in place of or addition to a tachometer for us outdoors watch wearers. Subscribed. Keep it up.
Great job on the review! I ordered mine yesterday.
Thank you! Really digging mine so far.
Thanks for the review, so good I purchased one as soon as the video ended. I've been a big fan of the Seiko 5 field watches, but I prefer the face on this one. Looking forward to mine arriving.
There definitely nothing quite like this that I’m aware of. I hope you enjoy it!
Mine arrived today. I used to have the older Khaki mechanical the one that had the 4hz ETA and came on a blond canvas strap. I loved that watch but unfortunately, times got tuff and I had to sell it. I had always wanted another field watch but Hamilton knocking their movements down to 3hz and raising the prices to me killed all the value proposition for the field line.
So I've always been on the lookout for another field watch to scratch and this hits it out of the park. It really is the greatest hits of field watches. You have the 3, 6, 9 of the explorer, the hands of a ranger, and the 24 hour markings and bead blasted case of Vietnam mil spec Hamilton/Benrus.
Perfect size. A field watch is a tool. Not something to impress the girls at the bar.
Well said!
It’s to impress the guys at the bar 👌😉
Islander watches offer fantastic value. I continue to own two 2017 Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanicals with the original high-beat ETA, which I much prefer to the newer H-50 as the ETA is robust, so tunable (mine running with two seconds per day) and cheap as chips to service. People complain about lug length, but is so be design to accommodate a NATO strap (which is the only strap it should be worn on, in my opinion). The Islander Rangemaster Mechanical does not offer me a compelling reason to buy it… the Hamilton is the real thing. Now, I paid less than $300 for my Khaki Field Mechanical watches and, at their current prices, the Islander offers compelling value. If I did not already own the Hammies, I would all over this Islander.
Great to hear your thoughts. Mine is in the mail and should arrive Monday. I have a Hamilton Khaki Field King in 40 mm and the lugs are almost too long for me (about 50 mm lug to lug). Im excited for the smaller size as I think its more appropriate for a field watch. The lume on the Hamilton is also a little on the weak side. This will be my first manual wind watch as well!
I really hope you enjoy. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Nice video. Placed the order day it was announced. Should arrive Monday. I am a little nervous about the size being too small. We will see… My wrist is 7.5 inches.
I have a closet full of huge boxes now in my wiser years the smaller and less world destroying the better lol nice piece
Three days on wrist here and only super fun and comfy . Good vid .
Thank you! Enjoy
subbed because we have the same wrist size😮
Watch collecting is an interesting journey. Same with collecting high end heritage boots and pocket knives.
37mm is a perfect size for a field watch or dress watch. Companies need to make more 37mm watches and forget the 36mm.
It's only 1mm smaller than the first one. I think I ordered mine only a couple of hours in, so it might be a much lower number. Unfortunately it's still stuck in customs at Heathrow Airport. It's a field watch, so the size is meant to be smaller, but most of my watches are much bigger. I like bigger the better. I also have a 7.25" inch wrist. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go for a smaller watch until they'd tried it. My biggest watch is a 52mm SteelDive tuna and I recently got a 46mm Sea Dweller SteelDive.
Try it on a Milanese bracelet. It has a completely different personality
I would have bought this one but I have a nearly 8” wrist. I decided not to cuz of that. Love the watch though. Going towards 42 Hamilton Khaki mechanical
Actually I gave in and ordered it. We’ll see what happens 😅
I like it but resisted because I have both the khaki auto 38 and the Hamilton field mechanical 38 in white.
Makes complete sense to me.
How is the movement? Does it keep time well?
It’s about +9 seconds a day for me, which isn’t bad.
@@TheTimekeeper Thanks
Tired of hearing people say this is too small. I mean, not every watch is supposed to be for you. If they marketed this as a big watch or something and it turned out it wasn't, ok, they'd have a point. This watch is homaging watches that were 34mm, so what do they expect?
I wish would could post photos in the comments so we could all wrist check
I am just under a 7 inch wrist. I think I can pull it off. ( I hope, I ordered one 2 days ago!)
I can wear a range of sizes and this falls within it so I feel pretty good about it.
@@TheTimekeeper It looked good on your wrist, so I'm feeling good about it. I only have one manual wind right now. I am feeling good about the modified automatic movement. You essentially can't over wind it!
Size of watch depends on your wrist size. I have a 7.25 inch wrist and prefer a 40-42 mm case size. This watch would be too small for me, but it does look really great. My Omega Speedmaster at 42 mm is my favorite.
I agree with you. You have to go with what you like. For me, the perfect watch size is 39mm to 40mm for non divers. I can do up to 43 if it’s a diver. I have been appreciating smaller watches more recently though and I have a handful in the 36mm range.
Same size wrist, normally wear 39/40, but put this one on today (my friend bought it) and surprisingly this 37mm wears very well. So much so I was able to snag one from Marc. Looks much better on a Horween leather strap btw.
I have a seven interest, but I like bigger watches. I was very surprised that the dial on this watch seems large. It may have a larger dial, than say a seiko tuna. And it really makes it wear a little larger.
Size of a watch is about the size of your wrist. End of story !! I have a 7.5 inch wrist and a 41mm or 42mm are perfect. What I have learned after watching lots watch enthusiast videos is most of the content creaters have small wrist. Guys hit the gym and pump some Iron. Tell your wife and or girl friend I said ( Your Welcome) !!
My wrist is 7.25”. I tried it on today (my friend received his) and it looks great on my wrist. I normally wear 39/40mm with one of my watches at 42mm. Didn’t think I’d like this 37mm, but changed my mind once I put it on. There was a time I used to have 45mm, no more.
I have a 7 inch wrist and I love big watches. I bought this watch and I find that the dial is a big dial. I’m sure it’s bigger than on my Seiko tuna. And it makes it look bigger than it is.
I got 696/1000
Way too small 🙋🇩🇪
congrats - you have got a turd master
That’s pretty funny. Almost spat out my toothpaste while brushing my teeth.
How 2 youtubers scams people with crappy watches only fanboys do buys because they tell them it's good in their mutual reviews
I bought the watch with my own money. I have no idea what you’re talking about. If you think the watch is crappy, don’t buy it.
can't afford it huh?
