  • If you have dry, brittle hair or red and itchy skin, then you may need to get adequate amounts of biotin into your diet. Put not only that, biotin helps support the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Biotin is also called vitamin B7. It is a water-soluble B-vitamin, which means that it does not get stored in fat tissues. Additionally, water-soluble vitamins are quickly depleted, which is why they should be regularly supplied through dietary sources.
Biotin is even called “vitamin H,” which comes from the German words “Haar” and “Haut” which mean hair and skin. The average recommended daily intake for biotin is five micrograms (mcg) for infants and small children, 30 mcg for adults, and 35 mcg for pregnant and breastfeeding women. This can usually be achieved through dietary consumption. A person who has a low daily intake of biotin may experience brittle hair, hair loss, cognitive decline, digestive issues, dry itchy skin, and fatigue.
Biotin increases insulin production and stimulates the enzyme in the liver that stimulates glycogen synthesis. Biotin helps lower blood sugar levels especially when it is paired with chromium.
Biotin and other B vitamins are crucial in neurotransmitter activity, they fight off neurodegenerative disorders, and they help improve cognitive function. Biotin also helps regulate mood thanks to their role in synthesizing hormones that makes you have a positive mood.
Low levels of biotin can cause thyroid problems, which can be addressed by increasing your biotin intake. Thyroid symptoms include thinning hair and hair loss. In addition, brittle and rigid nails.
Biotin helps provide a healthy metabolism since it is crucial when it comes to the breaking down of nutrients like amino acids, carbohydrates, fatty acids, and protein from your food for fuel. Additionally, biotin is crucial for fat metabolism, which helps maintain heart health.
Biotin contributes to the development of white blood cells, which are your immune system’s defense mechanisms. White blood cells defend your body against viruses and bacteria that make you sick. Almost 75 percent of the immune system is in the gut, a deficiency in biotin is connected to poor immune function since the B vitamin is converted in the gut.
Biotin can help fight the effects of aging due to its role in fatty acid synthesis, which is necessary for healthy skin.
A biotin deficiency may increase pro-inflammatory cytokines and contribute to chronic inflammation.
To improve your overall health include more of these biotin-rich foods in your diet:
Raw, roasted, or salted almonds are rich in biotin. Most legumes and nuts are also full of biotin. Other sources include green beans, peanuts, pecans, soybeans, and walnuts.
    Egg yolks contain biotin.
Raw cauliflower has 17 micrograms of biotin per serving. You can also slow-roast cauliflower in the oven.
The best kinds of cheese with biotin include American cheese, blue cheese, Camembert cheese, and cheddar.
Cooked mushrooms contain small amounts of biotin, but it is better to eat them raw.
Among leafy green vegetables, spinach contains one of the highest biotin levels.
On the other hand, sweet potatoes have the highest levels of biotin in vegetables.
To ensure that your overall health is at its peak, don’t forget to consume foods rich in biotin, a versatile nutrient that has many benefits.
