I like the fact that he started talking about raster graphics and vector graphics instead of just jumping into the interface without any context. Not only did he explain Inkscape in 5 mins, he also established himself as a reliable instructor
I used this software very superficially in a graphic design course in high school, and the first impression it gave me was that it was a mediocre program, but watching more tutorials about it, learning and increasing my interest I realized that Inkscape can be an extremely professional level tool. Watching this video and discovering yourself at the same time has opened my eyes to how powerful Inkscape is. Thank you. [Translated by google, my english is not very good]
I don't think I'll ever make money with graphic design (doesn't seem compatible with my career, but you never know) but I bought your master class because I appreciate your effort to promote this free (as in speech and as in beer) software and help people get the most out of it. We need more people like you. I've been enjoying the course a lot, too. Already learned plenty of features that I never dreamed existed.
Thanks Nick, about 16 years ago I had a sign/graphics company that I closed up. We were doing about $1mil in sales per year. I got tired of it after 20 years of owning it. Now I run a volleyball club and I love my life so much more. We get many t-shirts and hoodies printed up by our local screen printers. They do a great job but their design work is very average. I used to run everything on Corel and Adobe. I got rid of all my computers and software, I was looking for a new software to use once in a while for designing and ran into your channel. Very well done video and this 5 minute video got me very interested in trying out this software. Thank you for making this simple but very clear video to understand!
Tell you what Nick, you da man! I have been watching garbage tutorials on inkscape and suddenly you ended up in my feed, really well presented, helpful and god damn perfect for me.
This is awesome. I couldn't afford or justify illustrator for my needs (personal logo design for my company as well as labels, stickers and ads ). So I chose inkscape. I know the basics just from converting the knowledge I have from simular programs, but your guides have been able to take that to the next level! I'm getting more confident now and creating is becoming easier. I've got a functional though simple logo that suits my needs. I've also been able to make attractive looking labels for my products and streamline editing those. So thanks again for the guides!
Not bad. I'm beginner using Adobe Illustrator and i try Inkscape before, but i was not into it because there was no good tutorials to follow up. Your tutorials are really good and I'm subscribing to learn more how to use Inkscape.
Must say, you are amazing. I started using Inkscape when I was 17 or so, and lost grip on it completely, recently I got back to it and your videos helped me a lot. I designed my own firms logo, and use it on a regular basis to creat banners, and advertising art works and what not.
Nick, Long time Inkscape user here. I use it to design files for vinyl cutting and CNC machines and a many other things. I always learn something new from your videos. Thanks for sharing
I have been using Inkscape on and off for the past five years and I just learned all of it in literally the four minutes of your video. I look forward to seeing more informative content.
Just enrolled in all your lifetime access complete bundle courses!!!!! For $39 it is the best offer out there for teaching me how to use these graphic design tools. I am super excited because your work speaks for itself. Can't thank you enough. I have used so many of your tutorials for so much of my designs. You are hands down the inkscape expert. Hopefully I can get there with your courses! Cheers Nick!
This video has excited me like hell.. My only regret is to not have started learning it right from beginning of lockdown due to corona... I could have learnt so much in these 3 months.
Thank you so much! I used to use Adobe for school but the monthly payments killed my wallet. I found inkscape and had no clue how to use it but this video helped loads! Thank you!
very nice introduction. I was given Inkscape by a graphic designer friend, and I have no idea what I'm doing. I'll be following you from now on!! Thank you for sharing your success.
Hi nick, I'm using inkscape for one week, after 7 years of Adobe software. Very good software, I'll watch your tutorials in these weeks. Thank you for sharing!
Man, you have been my mentor all this while. Always love your contents. I am serious dude. I really want to get myself dirty with inkscape vector designs. And I wish life could have given average guys like us bucks palliative, then, I must confess, your inkscape Masterclass could have been the first class on my masters. I believe life may change, it surely will change someday. Keep up the fine work dude. Appreciate a million miles to the top of mount Everest.
I've been a sign maker for more than 30 years, and Inkscape is my favourite vector tool. After using Corel, Illustrator, Freehand and even FlexiSign; I find the vector tools of Inkscape the fastest and easiest to use of them all. The only bad thing is It's not good to use directly with vinyl cutting plotters, CNC routers, big format printers or laser cutters. But imports and exports a great deal of formats. Otherwise, a great program that has improved a lot since Its early versions. And under Linux - I've Linux Mint at home - is even faster than on Windows.
That one example from 0:00 - I just started to play with masks in GIMP, separating RGB from the alpha channel, etc. Masks are pretty powerful. And in this Inkscape video in the beginning, instead of redrawing the whole shapes, I would use a simple mask, by copying the whole text, grouping them together, coloring them white, and use them as a mask for the underlying original text. With this you can easily add these hole effects for characters like "S". I can imagine, making a 7-sided star, but only the stroke from it, 40px big, converted with "stroke to path". And in the middle of this quasi stroke, the same star, but only 10px thick. This one will be a transparency mask, going from opaque at the edges, to full transparency in the middle. This way you can draw your own shapes for gradients with transparency.
I was leaning towards Affinity Design since I already own Affinity Photo but after seeing the recent update of Inkscape I feel like it’s the better and more developed platform and I actually like the UI and features better and the crazy part is that it is free. I’m convinced. Thank you for the tutorial also.
Thank you so much for putting all of this together... I am also learning Design Space and someone told me that I might find Inkscape more to my liking... Once again.... time to get ahold of a fresh pad of paper and couple of new pens, start binge watching and taking notes.
Inkscape and PowerPoint is a great team 😁👍🔥 .svg power. Thanks Nick, I enrolled and viewed all of the lessons in your Inkscape Masterclass 👍 super awesome
Started using Adobe Illustrator back in 1985, now giving up on ADOBE. The INKSCAPE interface is a bit mysterious. Hoping your tutorials can make the transition go smoothly. Thank you!
This is a great brief introductory topical video. Having viewed this only after seeing many of your others, I regret not being able to have watched this first. I love using Inkscape, but it is the most fully featured free software I've experienced. I'll be watching for more 🎥 👀
It was the fastest subscription of all the time. I just watch this first video in your channel and decided subscribe. And it was just on time, cause my Adobe Trial period ends tomorrow, hahahaha! Many thanks man!
Thank you for this, I really needed a vector drawing tool, can't afford Illustrator anymore.. THANK YOU and I look forward to your tutorials, this is a great start to familiarizing with this product!
So much value in these videos. Wow! . . . Thank you so much. I really appreciate this. You're doing us all a great service. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Can I just mention, it seems like there is a divide between users of 2D and 3D graphics software. I see this every time a 2D artist offers a technique for doing some faux-3D effect, and I wonder, why not use full 3D software to achieve a much more sophisticated effect? Myself, I use a range of Free software graphics tools, including Inkscape, Blender, GIMP, also ImageMagick and G’MIC command-line tools, and Python scripting APIs for several of these. And I have dabbled a bit in MyPaint and Krita, just to add to the mix. I figure, the more strings you have to your bow, the more interesting results you can achieve.
I think some people just prefer to specialize in one field rather than be a jack of all trades. Not saying that's bad and all. I too dabble in 3D (Blender) and 2D even though my main area is programming but I noticed that my friends that focused only on one or sometimes two fields always have better skills compared to someone like me. Having too many interests really has some downsides.
Your tutorial are always the best.. The main issue with Inkscape is you can not add page... After watching most of your tutorial, I have decided I will create a 4 page broucher. When I completed 1st page, I wanted to insert blank page so that I can start working on next page. To my surprise, I realized after breaking my head and googling, that Inkscape treats every page as a new page. The add-on for adding new page does not work in current version ( v 1 ) and the blame was put on SVG format. This has really disappointed me.
wow you even explained how to make the software look the same as it does on your screen. just to make it easier for some viewiers like me, cant really express how much i appreciate this. thats a true rarity imo. often its just like "and now you go there and do this" **looking confused at my other screen** where is this?
Great video as always Nick. I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and they’ve always been top draw! One question - what software do you use to host the Masterclass content?
Hi Nick, always enjoy your tutorials & articles on your blog. Have you given any thought about using Skillshare for your Inkscape Master Class? I have a Skillshare account & it would be more cost efficient if the class was available there, plus it would extend your reach. Just a thought.
Thanks Nick for your tutorials. They are amazing and gave me the confidence to work with vector based programs. I have moved onto Coreldraw as I bought a proprietary macro for Corel from a decal making "teacher' as that is what i used my designing for. But each and every time someone that asks him about advice for a free software or inquires about Inkskape, I ALWAYS refer them to your videos.
Wow, how nice of you to make a beginner's playlist. I just assumed I had to find the vids myself, thanks for mentioning it in this video. I Love your videos so far.Thx
Hello, great tutorials Nick, thanks a lot, also for supporting InkScape in a such valuable way! InkScape has been my favourite vector tool for ages and still is, however the development has been extremely slow and took ages to reach the first official stable release. I am not sure what is the story behind but I would be really happy to know that this will mean a renaissance for the InkScape project. The fear of remaining out of the loop pushed me to look into new free/affordable tools such as Lunacy for Windows 10 and Figma, I would love to see some comparison in your videos. Also to be entirely honest, while InkScape works perfectly on Windows and Linux, is a bit sluggish on Mac, and if I were primarily a Mac user I would probably look into something else as sometimes could be very frustrating. This performance issue on Mac has been acknowledged in the last release note as a persisting issue.
Hi there! Your video helped me out a lot!! Thank you so much!! :D Commenting to boost the algorithm so people can find this video when they are having the same issue! :)
Thanks! Once I find the time this is something I'd like to learn. I've been studying and using Photoshop for years and would like to learn something about vector art. I looked at your master class page... Incredibly affordable at $17.
Thank you. I think that your channel may be exactly what I need to get started with this piece of software. I have ZERO experience with Illustrator and Vector Graphics. I'm also unable to draw a straight line. We'l see what happens.
I like the fact high quality tutorials exist for free and open source software. Great work, Nick!
Exactly why the internet is such a valuable resource. People are awesome! 👍
channel should now be "Inkscape Guru" lol

The perfect Inkscape tutorials.
