Nick, your excellent tutoring has brought gladness to my practice with Inkscape. Great "hidden" functions, most of which I had no idea existed. I wish Gimp were as intuitive as Inkscape. The .pdf function is something I need to explore, as a local print shop needed larger sized work (3 x 4 feet) in a .pdf form that I'm unfamiliar with.
I think the various ways to create and modify guides is really important. One tool I like is to convert an object to guides. Though, it can produce unexpected results if you expect a start to be converted to guides along the edges.
I've just uploaded it and the UI is not the same as yours. the toolbar take all the space leaving a tiny space for the canva. I've tried everything but nothing change . I need some help pleaaaase !
I just wanna say thank you. During the long time that I've been following this channel, you've made me an Inkscape Pro! Learning my graphic design skills thru Inkscape even landed me to a job and a career in designing! Still, after all these years Inkscape offers some new things to learn. That's why I still keep following this channel and watch your awesome tutorials with great interest. Keep making videos, you're the best Inkscape teacher in the world of UA-cam!
the feature to transform nodes as you do with objects got me speechless, i was wishing to be able to do that sort of thing all this time! now i am going to use it on my work, thanks a lot for this awesome tip!
First secret plays: Me: "I already knew that. i'm probably going to know most if not all of these." Second secret plays: Me: "hhhhwwwwwwwhhhaaaaatttt?" " I know nothing!!!"
Your channel is the reason why I started using Inkscape along with GIMP. You have inspired me to work on developing content for the softwares as well. Thank you so much! If you haven't already, a similar video like this for GIMP would be cool too.
I use Inkscape sometimes for reverse engineering on technical pdf drawings. Where i want to measure angles or lengths. Using the ruler lines you can manually rotate the lines with hold the shift key and draging the line to its desired angle. Than you can read out the angle from the properties menu if you double click it. Some of the features i knew. but the Alt selection methode was unknown to me, but will use that in the future. Thank you.
I just discovered that in the new Inkscape 1.0, when you would like to create a new template you just click, file, save template without having to navigate to a specific folder to save something as a template, so it is much easier now to save a template, yay!
heeeelp! i am looking desperately for a solution: why does it not work for me to click the " show transformation handles for selected nodes" button? i can click it (it is activated or deactivated, but it does not change anything or show any handles on the object). same for the nearby buttons for bezier handles and path outline. - is it broken??
I accidentally found out Inkscape can open PDF yesterday. I wanted to convert it to jpg/png, but didn't want to install any other program or online converter. So I thought I should try Inkscape, Because why not. It just work, and I was kinda surprise. At this point, it won't be surprise to me if it can do a light movie editing.
I know that this video is old. The "trick" of changing the AI file extension to PDF will only work when the Illustrator file has been saved with "PDF compatoble" turned on. It's the default, so not a lot of people will turn it off, but if it is turned off, then there will not be anything in the file. For files that have been saved PDF compatible, renaming them is not necessary. You can just open the AI file with Inkscape. It will find the PDF inside.
I'm looking for a vector graphic application that's fairly easy to use yet high quality software... and looks like I just found it. This seems a lot like Flash without the animation and scripting aspect, but hey, what do I want for free. Macromedia Flash was the most amazing program. The heart shape used in your pattern was considered one object with multiple instances which only needed to be loaded once, and wouldn't add nearly as much to the file size that a bitmap would. Great video tutorials, thank you.
Regarding #10 Guides: Simply hold Shift while hovering over a guide to rotate the guide around its handle. Very helpful if you do perspective work without using the unwieldy 3D Box tool.
6:23 this would've saved my life, I usually am not really efficient at thinking about the steps to make to do something in a project and in one I had to have many 45 degree angled rulers and I created each and every one by hand typing 45 in each on. this is kinda frustrating
Hello Nick thanks for the tutorial. Nowadays I have less free time. I have an exam so I can't watch their new training. I watched many of the how-to videos for GIMP and Inkscape software, but I did not comment. I thank you very much. Free training is an inspiration for many young designers. Congratulations brother. See you
Excellent as ever Nick, great tips i didnt know btw Linux path for templates once you unhide folders "/home/username/.var/app/org.inkscape.Inkscape/config/inkscape/templates"
I second what everyone else has already said. This video is dope on so many levels. Well put together, well narrated, straight to the point(s), and extremely useful! Thanks from you newest subscriber.
Thank you so much! I didn't know these useful tools! It's amazing how few tools we know in the softwares we use. I use Blender and I am conscious that I barely know 50% of the Blender tools.
Help ! I lost the cursor(pointer) : it is INVISIBLE on the work page, when I design a rectangle, square, star, 3d figure, and is VISIBLE only for circle, draw free hand line, write some text. VERY ANNOYING, I AM DESPERATE. I just decide to learn Inkscape. I have learned a weak , but now it is impossible to learn, to use it. I already uninstalled and reinstaled the Inkscape , but the same error the cursor is invisible . Has anybody any idea ? thanks
I've watched several of your videos (I'm learning Inkscape) but this one really struck me as having very useful information that one wouldn't otherwise be able to find very easily (like select objects by Fill color, etc.). Thx.
Thank you Nick! I feel like even though I could just learn everything there is to know about inkscape from your UA-cam channel, you deserve the $ so I went ahead and bought the solo Inkscape course package. People! You will not be disappointed! Great teacher!
Great tutorials. The problem with your intro/outro is that the base song, Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" is in the key of A-flat, whereas when the 808 kick comes in, it's in the key of F, giving a most unpleasant discordant tri-tone effect. I realize I'm probably the only one this bothers! LOL
On Xubuntu, xfce --- I am not sure if this is the same for other flavours of Ubuntu --- I use Super+Alt then Left-Click and Drag to select with the red line as you show. The combination of mouse Drag + Alt is already assigned to moving windows which I find useful and so don't want to override it. You create very professional tutorials! Thank you.
Hi Nick I follow you since last year. I like inscakpe. But the only problem I am facing is that it's slow and laggy..... I didnt see this kind of problem i affinity designer and vectornator
Excellent and concise video thanks. Just starting to explore Inkscape and found this verey useful. Will be checking out your Inkscape Masterclass. Thanks a lot
hey Nick, thank you for the video's you keep posting. I have just started using inkscape and it looks scary, but with your help I am slowly working my way through. Thanks
Thank you for a very informative series of video instructions. I have a basic problem though: As I am not sure what you will call it, but on the right hand side of my screen is a verticle bar with dots. In this pop-up is all the features and is very handy. Problem is it covers up 1/2 of my screen! I also would like to know how to setup inkscape to show these features like you have yours - i.e. they show up individually on the right side. Then they seem much smaller in size and more manageable!
Hi Nick, I used your Inkscape 10 link to download the new version and even though I've fully installed it, it won't open. Any ideas? Did this happen to you? I've deleted the older version and now I'm panicking!! TIA
Wow, such a complex & fully functioned app! My InkScape never looks like any of the lessons or demos online. Applets never docked same, difficult to find. Are all the icons & applets available directly from the menu? Is there a way to search for a command and have it highlighted or activated from help ?
I used Illustrator many years ago then stopped and picking up designing again. Found your videos about Inkscape which did not exist when I started and wow what an on-ramp you have provided. Still learning the tool but I always look forward to your videos
at 4:20 I'm assuming when you went to batch export your multiple png files, you also went back into that directory and manually renamed them all to their proper file size names....?
What would improve workflow in Inkscape is a complete redesign by someone competent in coherent UI design, and who strives to create simple yet functional solutions. I was considering Inkscape as replacement because I want to change my OS to Linux, but once I tried to reproduce one of my projects in Inkscape. I literally couldn't sleep for a good 5 hours out of shire anger over how utterly stupidly is Inkscape designed. I mean if you are going to do something then at least take an example out of people who already did the same thing extremely well.
Thanks for the video. Note: You demonstrate that templates are saved in the programs files folder. Make sure you set your backup software to back those up.
Thanks for video. One question, as Inkspace remember last modification of any shape, so when you try to draw that shape in future it draw the you left last time. I don't know how I made last cube and it it not cube any more it looks like fence wood( like in your backyard) Can you help me how to go back to original cube shape? Thanks.
Hi Nick I have a problem with inkscape for 3 three days I can't open or even save a file. I had to delete it and reinstall but still the same problem. I do a drag and drop but I can no longer unite two objects or change the background color and impossible to save I am really lost.
Why would you need to change the file extension for Inkscape to open .ai files? Besides sounding like terrible advice, opening the .ai file directly should work if it's compatible
Awesome video. Please do a video showing how to go back to default setting on Inkscape. I'm using Windows 10 and I somehow messed up the settings. Please help😩
How do you set the guideline into specific size in cm/mm?(make a precise spacing with guideline) Like if you want to set a guideline to 5cm between 2 objects. Because from what i know is that we can only drag the guideline to anywhere in the canvas without specific length/width
Make good tutorials like this and I will watch the full advertisement videos that comes with the uploads of this channel. That is how I can thank you bro. I know these stupid youtube rules. Don't need to like or subscribe this comment. ;)
WoW, more! patterns, node selection, ....... yes i'll be using them, great info for those that don't have the time to go all the way through the master class..
thanks for your amazing videos!!! at 1:58 when you select the rectangle with the Edit path tool, i dont have those nodes you selected and dragged (the ones in the middle of the shape), only 3 nodes in the corners!! , any idea why???many thanks!!!
ive been using inkscape for almost 6 years and i actually never knew any of these. this video was really dang cool and very helpful
0:43 1. Use Align & Distribute on nodes

Life saver 👐... although you forgot to put your paypal
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. The pattern maker is remarkable.
Inkscape is very powerful tool! This tricks are really useful!
Alternate location for templates on Windows systems:
If you're using a work computer or otherwise lack file permissions for that location on the computer you're using, you can store them in:
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\inkscape\templates
Obviously, replace with the applicable user name on your computer.
For Linux systems the location is ~/.config/inkscape/templates
I was just looking so hardly to find a way to turn inkscape files to illustrator files..Thank u vry much for that tip😍😍

Omg I invested hours exporting hundreds of individual Png's. Well at least now i know of the batch export. :.)
Hey nick! Great vid as always, I’m a beginner designer and I love the look of esports mascot logos, could you do a tutorial on one? Thanks!
Where do i find the link sorry i thought the links Are normally in the comments

Words can't describe how useful this video is. I've been using inkscape for a few years now and I only knew 3 of these. Thank you so much. Keep it up!

Thank you Nick!

Wow! Thanks a lot!
You can also change the angle of a guide around its origin by Shift left clicking while dragging it. +Ctrl for 15° increments.
Thanks a lot for this! I'm quite well versed with Inkscape, but I still didn't know some of these haha. Cheers!

A guide can be rotated arbitrary by hovering the mouse, then press Shift while move/rotate the guide.
Very useful video for a beginner! Thank you.

Thanks Nick. Most useful video I’ve watched all year!
Where is a quick way to rotate guideline - hold Shift and drag. This works also with snapping!
I can now live without fear knowing it is possible to create Ai files!
Yeah, not being able to save in .AI has cost me jobs
This. Is. Brilliant! Thank you so much, Nick! Awesome tips and hints. Very helpful 💪🏼👍🏼

I'm on Linux. The alt key with primary mouse button click moves the window around...

Just learned about InkScape last week. I knew a few of the shortcuts, but not most of them THANKS!!!
Hi! Thianks Nick for the video, i only knew about the guides.. i really loved the "objects to patterns".
Hi Nick, I used your Inkscape 10 link to download the new version and even though I've fully installed it, it won't open. Any ideas? Did this happen to you? I've deleted the older version and now I'm panicking!! TIA

3:30 Terrible Job of Explaining how to CREATE template. Not just where to store Template.

I think that the Illustrator PDF Convertor trick will be especially useful if I start taking Icon Commissions.

Godlike thumbnails. I’d like to see a quick rundown video of how you go about making them.
Why would you need to change the file extension for Inkscape to open .ai files? Besides sounding like terrible advice, opening the .ai file directly should work if it's compatible
Nice as always! I wonder how Inkscape users think about Affinity Designer 🤔
Hello sir
These tricks are best.
But I have a question how I can make SVG file to CDR format?
Awesome video. Please do a video showing how to go back to default setting on Inkscape. I'm using Windows 10 and I somehow messed up the settings. Please help😩

I do have one question. Is it possible to export an image from Photoshop, into Inkscape, while retaining the layers?
WoW, more! patterns, node selection, ....... yes i'll be using them, great info for those that don't have the time to go all the way through the master class..
As always very useful to intermediate users. the .ai to .pdf I did not know and will find VERY useful.
I knew about 50% of them and of the 50% I didn't know, 3 will be very useful for me. Thanks for the amazing content!
I use Illustrator and Affinity designer but wow I didn't know inkscape could do such things
You might be aware that you are an excellent educator! Thank you very much! (and with flare ;D)
Thanks @LogosByNick for making so helpful videos❤. Undoubtedly, one the best if not the best graphic design channel.
I never use those tools 😂😂😂. It really useful. Thank youu
thanks for your amazing videos!!! at 1:58 when you select the rectangle with the Edit path tool, i dont have those nodes you selected and dragged (the ones in the middle of the shape), only 3 nodes in the corners!! , any idea why???many thanks!!!
Very helpful. Tip #7 alone was worth the price of admission. Well, more than that actually but you get the idea.
For tip #7, it seems a tad ridiculous that Inkscape doesn't just automatically treat a ".ai" file as ".pdf".
Alt drag for selection, scaling nodes and select by similarity are amazing! thanks nick for that.
Great tips! Is there a way to duplicate custom angle guides without manually adjusting each one?
thanks!! I only knew about the guides and aligning nodes. patterns out of objects blew my mind
Thanks Nick. I sure didn't know about this hidden features in inkscape and will be using them onwards.
Thank you very much, very capable program for free.
Any tips on how to run Inkscape faster on Mac? I’m having trouble with this
6 People are angry they used Inkscape for 5 years and didn't know the alt drag select. Super useful stuff!
Thanks for the tips.
I recently discovered that the Calligraphy Tool can be used as a brush with a tablet, after some adjustments like angle etc.
Yes, I have a video about this lined up!
i think ur tutorials are amazing and ur voice is pleasant to listen, like a perfect teacher.
i switched to linux and now learning from you,
Great info. Thanks. I will be using the info. Also back to review
Sigh, a lot of these dont work in inkscape on macos. i have to use .91 for my laser engraving software so im stuck in the dark age of inkscape
