Keep in mind last year I was reading on a train companies website that 2023 they will be making it easier to travel with contactless but using cash is so much more enjoyable love the billa by the way 😀

@@Bazerthaexplorer That's nice to hear, I think foreigners would definitely appreciate being able to pay by card but there is of course a charm to using Euros in cash. Keep up the grind! 🤙

Subscribed! Currently doing my research for an April/May trip to Slovakia from Ohio. I trust that winter will be a memory by then. I read the only book in English that I could find on Slovak history. Found out recently that my mother’s grandparents came from Slovakia and that my grandmother spoke the language. I’ve been working on the language. The 40 letter alphabet increases the difficulty. Most concerned about transportation and lodging in the rural areas. I’ve been hiking the mountains of Tennessee in 2022 in preparation for some amazing Slovak hiking. The plan right now is to travel across that northern corridor from perhaps Zelina to Stará Łubovña (Castle and distillery) and then south to Kośice. Might like to visit Żywiec Poland since I’m in the neighborhood and a couple towns in Hungary where my mother’s paternal grandparents are from. I am a carnivore, so I’m a little concerned about the food as well.

Sounds like you'll enjoy the trip later this year! Winter hasn't been as snowy in Bratislava as I would've hoped, I'm still going to try to find snow and make a video on that. I'd recommend using Anki, you can have digital flash cards synced up between your computer and phone, it's quite useful. For transportation, it could help for you to watch my latest video if you haven't already 👍 for lodging you may need to call hotels, or even check airbnb. I can guarantee that Slovakia has some incredibly underrated hiking locations, the high tatras are a must-see. A lot of the food can be quite heavy and starchy yes, though there are places were you can buy quality meats, you just need to look around. You must try tatarak, a raw meat/egg dish. Enjoy your travels ✈

Hi @Chris Paulus, if you'd like some information about Slovakia / Slovak history / practise slovak (for free) or some preparation for your trip let me know :) , i am from Košice but my mother was born and raised in Stará Ľubovňa so im just curious about you and your trip

@@mdupyt ahoy! I discovered recently that my mother’s grandparents were from what they considered Slovakia. It was Austria-Hungary at the time. Since he was from a town that is now in the Ukraine, I assumed that I was 1/4 Ukrainian. Not so much. My mothers other grandparents were raised just outside of Budapest but they are of German descent. They also migrated to the United States before World War I. I’ve been prepping for this trip by hiking the state of Tennessee in the US and I’ve been using an app to get familiar with the language. I did read the only history book I could find on Slovakia written in English. It was written in 1995 but it did go back 1200 years. While I can’t remember a lot of the names and dates, I do understand that the culture is built on perseverance to hold on to the national identity despite a half dozen cultures trying to assimilate the people. My best friend was raised in Stará Lubovńa. There are a couple castles I want to check out, but especially that one. I may head down through Kosice and check out the Budapest area, but there is no way I’m going to learn Hungarian. 😮

Hey man...I see you upgraded from Vrakuna :D well, you will see by yourself if its an actual upgrade. As far as transportation, it definitely is...but considering much more noise and the trams (which I personally hate and could never live near by) this will be a definite downgrade. If you ever will be moving again I recommend Ruzinov as its the best combination of quiet living (many parks) and busier city life (city centers, shopping centers) .

I think Ružinov is actually my favorite district in Bratislava, at least in the sense of a place to live. It's kind of in between everything, and like you say it's a mix of quiet living and city life. Nové Mesto was what I could find, but honestly I'm not complaining at all, I've been enjoying living here so far. I'm much closer to Hlavná stanica so that is definitely nice for travel purposes 👌

everyone, literally everyone here hates the main railway station (the building & its look) and it'll be demolished in the future for sure. Just the state railways don't seem to have a project for a new one ready yet. The main bus station used to look similar and a new one is a part of the Nivy shopping mall

Yeah I've heard that they'll be remodeling hlavna stanica at some point, I thought it was already under construction, but I'll have to go by there in person sometime soon to see. The bus station at Nivy is very nice 👌
