We call it ''aprílové počasie'' (April Weather), we get this type of weather every year. It can be -10 in the morning and +20 in the afternoon so that last week of March was just the beginning of this :) you will get those first thunderstorms soon which is my favourite part of spring/summer
Regarding learning the language, Slovaks are probably very happy to meet a native English speaker and they want to practice their English with you instead of trying to teach you Slovak so trying to learn Slovak might be challenging.
I had a similar issue when I moved from Slovakia to UK. Most of my colleagues were from Poland and the Czech Republic so I couldn't practice English at work. It was really frustrating because when people find out that you speak/understand their language, they don't want to talk to you in English, but I really wanted to stay here and learn the language. I ended up going out and started hanging out with locals :)
Btw I really enjoy watching your videos. Part of my father's family are Americans, they used to come to Slovakia every summer when I was a kid and I remember that in schools, most of my classmates had ''uncle George'' (Juraj) somewhere in the US, it was such a common thing, especially in Eastern Slovakia. There are more people with my surname in the US than Slovakia lol

Regarding the weather...how interesting! I didn't realize it was a phenomenon here. Yeah it was a little strange to experience. The weather where I'm from can be..nice, but predictable.
They are, I'm happy to speak English with them :) I try to practice Slovak here and there in my free-time, but I spoke to my girlfriend about getting more serious with it, so she is going to start giving me lessons, which we should've done a long time ago hah, but it's fun, the whole learning process. Someone who I meet with for English lessons told me a similar story - they were living in America, and were renting a room in a house, but everyone in the house was from Slovakia, so they spoke English when they went out, and then spoke Slovak with each other at home! Such a funny situation heh I can understand your frustration though, you wanted the practice!
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your experience 🙏

Hello Sterba! I am the guy you met today in front of the "panelak" where I live. I did not want to disturb you with your girl, just wanted to say Hi to you - and I hope you like Bratislava city as much as I do. Looking forward for your new videos from all around Slovakia. Keep up the good work ;)

Slovak food videos is a good idea, looking forward to them!!! Also you can compare local american foods (like burgers, ribs, bbqs or whatevs) with the ones in US. Im quite curious if you like burgers in Slovakia :D

Ahoy! I’ve been comparing the Bratislava weather to that in Northeast Ohio for the last three months. Overall, it’s very comparable except that it doesn’t get quite as cold and it gets a little less snow. We’ve had thunderstorms knocking out power here for a couple weeks. I leave for Bratislava this week. I have four nights booked in the old town and then I’ll be heading north. Trenčín castle is one I want to visit but I’m going to have to take a day trip from Bratislava as it is only open on weekends. 😐 thank you for all of your insight on these videos. And thanks to Vlad for his insight on contactless payments on another of your videos 😉🙂 I did speak to several people in Mexico in Slovak Followed by Spanish. I did download the entire Slovak language on my phone so that I should be able to translate when necessary.

Ahoj there! Sounds like the weather is similar, though the thunderstorms over wintertime in Bratislava were few and far between. That's awesome! I know you'll enjoy your stay. If there are any last-minute insights you'd want to possibly get in a video before you get here, I'll see if I can make something happen! You'll definitely want to double-check the days/times when the Trenčín castle is open, we went on a Sunday and it was closed (I think it was later in the day or something). Also, a good translator, if you need another, is DeepL translate. Anyway, I'm glad these videos are insightful, that's the point! Thanks for watching and enjoy your time here 😎
