Waste Management of Kern County

Spread between 4 different yards, Waste Management’s Kern County operation is a unique one. Previously dominated by a company called Benz Sanitation, WM began moving into the region after winning the contracts for the cities of California City and Ridgecrest. In the years following, Benz ended up selling to WM leaving WM with all of the former Benz turf. This resulted in a very unique fleet, ranging from a handful of older, original to WM diesels that have been sent to live out the end of their days in the desert, to much of the old Benz fleet, to a few rental trucks to serve as a “temporary” solution for replacing older equipment, to a handful of much more standard natural gas powered trucks transferred from other yards further down south that can collect in certain areas where the required fuel is available. Given that Benz primarily ran a fleet of New Way and Bridgeport bodies, those trucks in and of themselves make this fleet standout given those are uncommon body makes in the WM fleet, but the old diesel Mack LE McNeilus Autoreaches and late model diesel Pete 520s with Heil ASL bodies are rather unusual too, especially right on the edge of Southern California. The fleet is likely to change in coming years, so I thought it would be cool to put a video together showing some of these unusual trucks in action. The bridge port WXs used to be owned by Benz inc (@ 9:10) , which got bought out by WM. And @3:44 where is this truck located? 5:17 this truck just got transferred to my yard
