Warm memories of this Goodbye song of Dixicana Radio Station based in Arnhem Capital of Gelderland, Eastern Netherlands... one of the best 80 's Stations!!!
Brilliant band. They should have been much bigger. Every track on the first album is top notch pop. I would recommend to anyone who hasn't heard 'The Circle & the Square' to search it out. It's a goodun!!
Brillant album. Coming out with a sarcastic, political song like this at the time was brave about American foreign policy and it's influences. The Style Council did similar.
Great hearing this song again in 2022 i remember it was in the charts when i was in my first job after finishing school dont see the years pass Dublin ireland
Incredible, pefect pop song. Fires on all cylnders. Exhilerating. For me brings back memories of early high school days too, essence of life back then.
A song that I remember from my childhood - I'm so glad I found it again, this and "Lean on Me", which was another that threw me back to the mid 80s. "Where's the peace and understanding?" "Go drum, go - dance round and round"" Relevant then, more relevant now.
Was 17 when it came out , went to woolies to buy the single. Liked it then but having not heard it for so many years I appreciate what a great song it is now even moreAs music always does , it transports you back in time and brings back so many memories like nothing else does.
I vaguely remembered this song from back in its day, the "yeah buddy yeah" and "hoola hoola" bits are what I remembered, I was able to recall enough of the lyrics to find it on a Google search, although the novelty wore off before it had finished. 😆
A truly superb 👌 excellent song, it's very 80's, but with a cutting edge style. Very underrated band, the Square & the Circle is an excellent album. Brings back very happy memories of when I was only 9 years of age, going to the Listowel Races back in 1985 in absolute awe of the colour, flashes of joy on the amusements, and sadly of people that are no longer with us. Ireland was in an economic recession at the rime, but it was a magical time being a child. The funny thing is, we had nothing back then, but we had everything. Today, we've everything, but really, we've nothing.
i forgot how good this is already 1 hour on repeat i just love when he sings for in america what a cool tune i also love the backing singers this song is sooooooo good
I started looking for this song and it took me months to find it. I remember hearing it on the radio. I could not find it, when I finally found it I started hearing it on the radio all the time

1986 in England , working as a Train Driver assistant in North London…. Loved this song . I never found out who the two lady backing singers were then ?
The whole album reminds me of car rides as a child and i still come back to it as a near 40 year old! From the very very young to the very very old everybody now say I!
OMG this was on a compilation tape (hits 5?) on heavy rotation in my folks car when I was about 7!!! I loved this, I think this song was about 30% of my personality back then! 😂

This came out when I was 4. I’d always leap up and dance to it. Now I’m 41 and find myself saying “You just don’t get pop songs like this anymore!”

I think it was one of those unlucky band that started top have success exactly when the kind of music they made started to go out of fashion.
@@steinarvilnes3954 Spot on! Steiner. You are 100% correct there. Good observation 👍
Wholeheartedly agree. I love all their albums, but this one will always have a special place in my heart.
They had a very big UK hit single with Lean on Me in late summer/early autumn 1985,then a medium-sized hit with this song in late 1986.
A very catchy song

This & lean on me were so catchy in the 80s & it’s still as fresh today in 2024!

A happy vibe with a disparaging observation of American culture. Great lyrics.
