@@extremelynormalperson I feel the same way. It's hard to explain, but it kind if evokes an image of a parent seeing what has become of their child (both good and bad). I know it's not a good analogy because in some sense we were the invaders of the land, not children of the land, but idk that superposition makes a powerful symbol for some reason
Can't believe it wasn't until today (21.8.19) that I found that one of my favourite Eighties songs has been rerecorded. It's fantastic, and so is the video

I loved this song when it first came out in '86. It hasn't dated either & the Red Box sound is still sounding fresh as it ever was. This updated version, with a really rather brilliant sign of the times video to go with it too, is just wonderful. I was 26 back then & New York was top of my destinations from London. I had so much fun but the times were so different to now. Thanks Red Box for this fantastic gem. We all deserve it!!!
Weird when I read up this song on Wikipedia and realised Red Box are actually British. Maybe an American band will release a song mocking Boris Johnson and the mess the UK is currently in. I wouldn't be offended!
Recorded something on BBC4 over Christmas and caught this at the closing of an 80s edition of Top of the Pops. So pleased. Hadn't heard it for years. So nostalgic. Love the song.
First of all... love this song so much. One of the best of the 80s. Second... Hi Red Box! Knowing you guys and gals are out there makes me extremely happy. Third... Great **and timely** new version of the video. I just found it because I was looking for the original. Hope you're all staying safe in these strange times! Xo
Thank you so much for uploading this pure beauty; both audio and visual! I've always loved it so, ever since I was a small kid! And no matter what; I LOVE my dear country even more, for it!❤ Greetings from America; San Diego, CA 🇺🇸
thanks mr red and mr box...totally loved the energy to this song back in the day..and still do. love the fun vid this time around esp with trump's very talented pictures :) thanks
I woke up this morning, with this melody in my head. Humming it to Google and it brought me to this video. I wonder how this song cane in my head for as me living in The Netherlands and never hear this song anywhere
A great song is a great song, whatever the decade. Loved this for almost 40 years. I remember being taken for my haircut as a little kid and this was on the radio. The barber was going crazy because I was singing it and shaking my head whilst he was trying to cut my hair.
I was searching for this song! I'm British (I know, I didn't get the best lottery card in life) but my grandmother moved to California in 1960, and I have two American uncles. I've visited many times, mostly the West and East coasts, but I did once go to Iowa on a business trip (that was strange). Anyway, I've just been reading all the 87th Precinct novels by Ed McBain, I'd recommend them, and I just wanted to say I love the US. You're fabulous people.
This. Is . The Best VideoClip .ForEver! My Dad,this song lovely and i too.. this new recording is so So Great Sound, great Work, Gret Clip. RedBox- thankU !
That wistful refrain just popped in my head for no reason, and I haven't heard the song for yonks, it's such a clever, catchy and thoughtful song with a hint of Celtic, and the updated video just shows how relevant it still is. Typical of great pop songs in the 80s and 90s it is intelligent and melodic, and distinct. In the mould of Tears for Fears, Prefab Sprout, etc.
Heard this this morning on the radio in the UK for the first time in years.. totally took me back to my youth.. I suprisingly remembered a goorali oorrali oorali oorali ood chunk of the words too! 😁
incredible , i heard this for the first time this week listening to old episodes of top of the pops on bbc and enjoyed it so much i had to get it and now i find this awesome version with the great video too !!
Brings a few memories back when I was 12, played the original video in a few music lessons! Still like the song a lot. New version is very very close to the original recording.
Thank you very much for this video. It's simply fascinating to see all of this: the problems of the our common world, politics, economy, culture, philosophy, ethnic conficts, celebrations, hapiness, protests, hate and love, progress and ancient traditions, One flag and many peoples, Founding Fathers of stone, and meme-president of internet, great modern cities and old, but not forgotten glory of the Wild West. All in one wideo. Truly Magnificent.
Good Work..but still waiting for a new Album...do I miss something in 2017? "The Circle & and the Square" was fantastic, I think much better than the later releasd "Graceland"
Where's the peace and understanding? Where indeed? I'd love this to be played at the protests. Was satirical and an answer to the record company execs who wanted a hit written for the US market, so they wrote this because they could, they didn't want to.
This is timeless, it's almost 40 years old and hasn't aged. In fact, like a fine wine, it's possibly got better.
First time I saw/heard this over here in the UK was on the Roland Rat Show in about ‘85 or ‘86 lol

Where's the peace and understanding? Where indeed? I'd love this to be played at the protests. I always thought of the song as not just a pisstake of the vulgar but also an homage to the reasonable and great parts of American culture. Maybe I read it wrong but the sheer catchiness and fantastic harmonies seemed a nod to the very best of west coast music.
Was satirical and an answer to the record company execs who wanted a hit written for the US market, so they wrote this because they could, they didn't want to.
