Hand Plane Restoration // How to

The metal hand plane, which is about 40 years old, looked quite rusted.First I cut it into pieces and put it in a big bucket.
then, I added diesel fuel and waited for a few hours to soften the rust, and continued sanding and polishing.Ready to use after getting the paint beautifully.

You put a lot of effort and elbowgrease into this restoration. Was there any rust under the japaning. If not I might have chosen to use the japaning as a primer. Also I prefer to let the wood show its beauty - or was this plastic? Hard to tell for me…
