3 years ago I restored a vice my now deceased father started and abandoned in the late 1970s. It was too rusted up, solid. 40 years later I began fixing it up after seeing so many UA-cams of vice restorations. It took 12 days of 3 times a day soaking with penetrating oil, and shock hammering, before it budged. 2 days later we got it to open fully, and began the process. Bead blasting, pit and nick filling, and repaint.. Its amazing feeling to finish what he started and abandoned almost half a century ago.

I wish there was 7 of you because I literally cannot get enough. I've seen every episode at least 2 or 3 times and find myself wishing there was more constantly. No one does it like you, keep it up because I love these so much
Odd Tinkering does similar restoration projects to this if you need more of this kind of video.
I wish I was 7 too :-)
I love that you welded and filed the imperfections. What a huge difference 👏
A lot more work sure, but so pleasing to see. Your restorations are always beautiful
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love your professionalism and precision, lathe close-ups and sandblasting are the best! Thanks for the great material.
Thanks for watching, much appreciated
Love his work too
I am constantly amazed how not only do you repair these things, but you actually make them better than how they were when they were new.
Glad you enjoyed the video
My Mechanics is the "Primitive Technology" of restoration.
Primitive Technology is the "My Mechanics" of survival.
Easily among the best channels on UA-cam. Love your work!
Many many thanks :-)
I have been watching your works for so many years and I never cease to be surprised at the accuracy, skill and pressure when solving the most impossible tasks. You are a master with platinum hands and computer precise thinking. I bow to you with great respect. Столько лет смотрю ваши труды и не перестаю удивляться точности, умению и напору при решении самых невыполнимых работ. Вы мастер с платиновыми руками и компьютерным точным мышлением. Кланяюсь вам с большим уважением.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it :-)
I wish to God I could get a vise that you perfected! They are things of great beauty! I'll skip the art museum and watch this instead!
Thank you very much, much appreciated :-)
This channel is right at the borderline of OCD. The dedication and attention to the last detail is amazing. I also restored an old small 60mm YORK vice, the old, rounded model, not the current version. While I removed all rust and paint and painted new, I do not have a lathe, nor mill, nor sandblasting box, nor welder. But it turned out still pretty nice, but marks from previous use are still noticeable. I wish I had the tools, time and patience like we see on this channel. I love watching your videos, you are simply the best. The last time I used a lathe or mill was 23 years ago. I liked the manual work.
Cool story, thanks for sharing :-)
It's the thought that counts and the intent and effort. I had a stroke 3 yrs ago leaving my left arm lame. but it hasnt stopped me. you just need to figure oiut how to clamp stuff. but soldering is tricky and i need my wife to hold the solder !
The seemingly effortless way you do these restorations and just "making a new one" or "quickly made this tool" is some how calming.
Блин! Вот это реально реставрация! Это гениально и требует большое количество усилий! Просто лайк и уважение Вам!
Много ненужных телодвижений.
Это извращения а не рестоврация.

Thank you so much for your support :-) much appreciated
I'm always amazed by the quality of your work. Your attention to detail is unmatched!
Thank you very much!
Watching you work made me realize that we can do anything when provided with the right tools. I was enthralled by seeing you bevel all those edges!
Nothing is impossible ;-)
I couldn’t care less if you’ve restored 100 vices before. I’m still thrilled every time you release a new video! It just occurred to me with this video that you restore products to better than new. You remove the casting marks, use superior paint, add chamfers, blue some parts, and likely lubricate additional parts. I don’t have all of your tools, though I’ve learned several restoration techniques by watching your channel nevertheless. I’ve even used some of them 😊. Superb job, as always!
Thank you very much, much appreciated :-)
This was my favorite vise restoration so far. The bluing turned out amazing and it looked awesome with that red and white.
Thank you very much!
You are the master of masters of restoration, truly the best, congratulations friend.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
After all your projects, the old vises are still my favorite. They’re always heavy duty and can always be repaired. Plus, you always turn them into a work of art with the beveled edges, bluing and paint. They are truly “works of art”!!
Great to see a real restoration video not a faked one as the vice shows signs of weathering impossible to recreate without waiting many years. Amazing work keep up the great work
I'd like to bring rusty tools back to life. Letting it rust first just to make a video would make no sense to me. Thank you
0:50 I love that you always use exactly the right tool for a task. No shortcuts. It's so annoying when a channel uses too small screwdrivers, the wrong wrench, and so on. But never on this channel - huge respect!
I noticed when he took out the first two screws how perfectly the screwdriver fit. We are a weird bunch of viewers :)
Swiss made PB screwdriver for Swiss made screws. 🙂
Well said, thanks :-)
My Mechanics | Where only 100% perfection is good enough.
Bit of wording/quote inspiration as I really love how you deal with even the smallest things and manage to fix them with ease. Keep up the good work! 👍
Thank you so much :-)
a wonderful example of when hands can do a lot, but the head works as it should! The selection of machines and tools, as well as the skill of use, is impressive.. Bravo! Master!
Yet another impressive and wonderful video and work! You truly are a master of your craft and art!
Thank you very much!
A joy to watch as always. And your filing work qualifies you as jeweller!
Thank you very much :-)
Almost a work of art. Complete makeover. Congratulations
Thanks a lot
That initial click when a screw breaks free. As someone who restores furniture, its so satisfying to hear.
Absolutely
Давно тебя не было на канале....рад что ты с нами....спасибо за проделанную хорошую работу
I definitely wouldn't have patience for filing away all the welded up material. Good work.
You can do it too!
Глаза отдыхают и радуются, видя плоды вашей работы. Браво!
и пусть наши глаза отдыхают и радуются, видя Украину свободной от незаконных захватчиков!
I don't know about anyone else, but I love when stuck things finally pop. That's when you know you got it.
Me too, very satisfying!
As usual, I am full of admiration for your talent, precision and care of every detail. The vice after the reconstruction certainly looks better than it was new. Braaavo!
Glad to hear that, thank you
Amazing edit! Doesn't feel like you have removed nearly an hour of video.
Thank you! Yeah and it's still a slower edit as usual.
So, there are longer videos available?
@@tommyherbertson8037 Yes! MM puts out "Director's Cut" versions of the videos for his Patreon subscribers! This video has an hour and 12 minute long Directors cut!
An old tool becoming a jewel 🤗
Thank you very much
Absolutely stunning. I was getting worried that you didn't 'make a new one', but the pin came to the rescue. It's always a pleasure to watch you at work and thanks for sharing your skills.
Thank you very much :-)
I usually watch restoration videos at night to fall asleep. I only subscribe and watch yours because I know there will be flawless craftsmanship and a piece of art at the end. By far, the best restorer on UA-cam. Keep up the great work.
same! lol but i decided his vids are too precious to consume that way :)
Thanks for the sub!
My favorite part of these videos is seeing such cool items comes back to functionality in an educational way. My second favorite part is when “I make new” appears as text because you know some milling wizardry is about to happen for some obscure part
Thanks for watching, much appreciated
I really love how the hot bluing turned out on this one. Super beautiful end result and it was awesome seeing you make tools to solve problems along the way. I love your videos so much.
Thank you very much!
@@mymechanics ....sometimes you heat the metal, and quench in oil for bluing; other times you use the bluing solution......any reason for that other than just showing us different techniques?
Wow. You really know your stuff. If only all our endeavours had such a meticulous attention to detail we would all do very well indeed.
You can do it too!
I love how you always solve problems by thinking outside the box!!!
Awesome job!!! ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful work as always sir.
I absolutely LOVE watching you restore these old abused and forgotten pieces of equipment.
You turn them into functional art pieces.
Keep up the fantastic work.
My only complaint is, I've watched all your videos multiple times and I just. want. more. 😆
It's like Christmas when I see a notification you've uploaded.
Take care, stay healthy.
Hope to see you soon.

Many many thanks :-)
As ever, a fantastic restoration. Thank you for the upload.
Thank you kindly!
Cool story, thanks for sharing :-)
I love the vise's history you've uncovered with the broken-off drill bit stuck in it. Great video as always. ♥
(Fixed for misspelling vise)
Thanks, I'm glad you like it :-)
I love this series! My first video I watched on your channel was the green vice, the you restored the blue one, gray one, and I had a feeling you’d paint this one red! It would be awesome to actually see a lineup of all them! Maybe make a video of all your restorations?
Maybe one day, thanks
You sir are one of the best channels on here and I really look forward to all of your videos. Not only are you the best, but it's so much fun to watch. You are a master of your craft and NO ONE can compare to the craftsmanship and perfectionism you put into every piece. I cant wait to see what you fix next. Stay safe bud.
Thank you so much :-)
this, Lads and Gents is my meaning of a professional and perfect Restoration. Well done
Thank you :-)
Thank you for your content, I was very exited when I seen a new " my mechanics" video!
Top notch work Sir! You are excellent at what you do.
Thanks for watching, much appreciated
Very impressive restoration, and the video capture/editing was excellent.
Thank you very much!
Another superb restoration. These gressel vices look really high quality. Great photography as always 👍
Glad you enjoyed the video
It's great to see you use the tools you previously restored. It shows that your results are not only beautiful, but functional and still effective at what they do.
Thank you very much!
I didn't think possible, but aspects of the filming and editing of this video where amazing, overall 12/10
Nice to hear that, thanks :-)
The tool you made is so cool. Great thinking and creation! 😁👍🏻
Thanks, I'm glad you like it :-)
Fantastic, I just posted a vintage film camera restoration video because I was inspired by your amazing work
I'll check it out!
Satisfying. Immaculate. Precise.
Please never stop making a new one.
Super.Your work is far superior to that of any other restoration channel.
I'm glad you like it :-)
В данном сегменте, твоё внимание к деталям, вызывает только уважение и удовольствие от просмотра!
Restoration, re-use and up-cycle - it's the way to go. Great video and channel content.
Thank you very much, I really do appreciate it :-)
Mit Abstand der beste Gastronom im gesamten Internet. Ich habe es unzählige Male gesagt und ich halte es immer noch fest, du bist der Beste. Herzlichen Glückwunsch aus Argentinien.👍
