    Galpal is such a trooper! As someone who also has has around 4 surgeries in around 15 years, I get the fishing for stitches part, it sucks. It’s really nice to see that even this is stressful and scary, you two keep an awesome sense of humor and rely in each other so openly. All the best in this process!

      she really is!! and damn that's alot, i guess itd make things easier knowing what to expect each time. galpal might be up to 5 surgeries in total i think, but spaced over her lifetime. I think that's why i was stressed/worried before the surgery because i hadn't had any hospital or surgery experience. thank u so much for ur kind words and support

    Happy to hear that the surgery went well.
    I broke my ankle and fibula a few years ago, so I know what it feels like to have a cast (I had it for 8 weeks) and to take blood thinner ahots. I had bruises no matter where I set them.
    Some doctors are, unfortunately, not able to communicate well with patients.
    I hope that Erin's recovery continues to go well.

      Im very relieved and galpal is too! I couldn't imagine how hard itd be wearing a cast for that long, i don't know how you (and soon to be galpal) got thru it! I think her timeframe is similar, 2 weeks in cast #1, 4 weeks in cast #2, 6 weeks in boot yet to come. Also sorry to hear the blood thinners were less pleasant for you! :( the tummy spot ended up being okay, but she's switched to tablet form now. thank you for sharing ur expereince and ur well wishes!! 💖

    Since you asked about other people with club feet: I was born with a left club foot, got surgery when I was four, and then just inspections throughout my youth. I remember wearing the cast, and vaguely a brace to be worn at night for a while after, but nothing beyond that. Only needed the achilles tendon to be lengthened (the last of the four incisions you drew). My left leg is generally a bit shorter, weaker and skinnier (great for being made fun of in sports classes), and the foot movement is still slightly limited, which allowed me to skip military service, but it's nothing that really affects me anymore (I'm 41 now). Galpal's case is obviously more complex if she needs follow-up surgeries. Best wishes for the recovery!

    • @galpal
      @galpal 8 місяців тому

      Hello fellow club-footer! Some of my earliest memories are wearing a cast too, but I don't remember any of the boots/bars or surgeries from back then. Same deal with the affected leg being shorter etc (though in my case, it's the right leg!)
      Thanks for sharing and for your support! :)

      i was so excited to show galpal that someone else had club foot too!

    • @widicamdotnet
      @widicamdotnet 8 місяців тому

      @@galpal whee, glad you saw it :) Memories from that time are always a mix of things I actually remember and things I saw in photos from back then and now THINK I remember, but I can recall the physical feeling of the cast. I know my parents knew one other local child my age that had a right clubfoot, and there were plans that we would buy matching pairs of shoes and exchange the smaller/larger ones but that never materialised, and I've never heard of any other cases either before this video.
      Now I'm wondering whether you had problems that prompted the follow-up (you don't have to say, obviously) or whether this is just a better/more modern treatment than what I got, or maybe it's an aussie thing (I'm in Germany)...

    Glad to hear surgery went well, stiches out and new cast on. Hospitals are intimidating at the best of times, albeit apprehension pain and tears. Clubbed appendages were a lot more common in my youth which would lead me to hypothesize prenatal intervention in most cases may be the norm in this era. Stay positive girls and grow strong together. Happy to hear you were both treated with respect. When my wife went in for a partial Mastectomy with breast cancer, (2010) I was treated like I had no right to be there, and we were hetro and married (and still are). I think the nurses just didn't like the look of me.

    • @laurenelloise
      @laurenelloise  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I'm so relieved! Oh interesting thoughts, also I think as time goes by, we get better medically at treating it too. Galpals initial surgery would've happened in the late 90s, so i suspect things might have changed/improved by now... maybe? :) I'm sorry to hear that ur experience with the nurses sucked, its hard enough being in the hospital for something so lifechanging, let along not taken seriously. That was my fear going in, but glad it was all well and good!

    Totally not commenting on the main point of the video but like the minute or two long part about the fries lol. I am from the US, and yes, ours are bigger. I actually just did a two month long study abroad in Australia and New Zealand, and on our first full day in Melbourne, I got a medium fry at McDonald's and started eating them straight from the bag, not looking in, and before I knew it they were out. A little surprised, I took the fry container out, and was surprised by how small it was! I mentioned it to the group I was with and the one non-American girl with us who comes from The Netherlands said "well of course, American sizes are huge" lol

    GP asked about others who have a club foot. I thought she might like to know that one of the best golfers on the planet was born with a clubfoot. Joh Rahm was born in Spain, and now lives in the US with his wife and children. Rather than me recounting his history, you can read about him online. Despite the foot and the pain he has endured, he has won two major championships, included in his more than 20 championships in his career. You are both wonderful women and a pleasure to watch and listen to. Long pain free lives, filled with love and adventure.

    Everting at McDonalds as you call them chips we call them fries is different out medium is a bit bigger and our drink size is way bigger too :) it’s not great because we are one of the countries with the highest obesity rate….

      @laurenelloise  8 місяців тому +1

      haha oops, aussie tend to call all chips/fries/crisps: chips. But when ordering from maccas, we def say fries!! interesting to know about the sizes! also that drink was a kids apple juice lol so i wouldn't compare that, if they had orange juice it would've been better to compare but nopeeee :( lol

    Your medium fries looks like it only has slightly more than the small size in the US, which irritates me because now I know they could be using a regular sleeve instead of the stupid little bag that falls over and spills the fries on everything else.
