One that I can think of but I have never seen myself because I knew that Netflix would ruin it and based on what everybody says about it, that is true. Persuasion with the chick from 50 shades of grey
I do enjoy the third Anne movie (please don't hate me), but I haven't read past book two. The two that are spinging to mind as the worst are Rings of Power and Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
No hate! I haven’t even attempted to watch Rings of Power. I liked the Narnia movies, but I was pretty disappointed with Dawn Treader too. At the time it was my favorite Narnia book, and there was so much they did wrong! That should probably have been on this list.
I have one for you! I read the book The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin with my husband and then afterwards we watched the movie. It was so bad!! They changed so much it didn't even resemble the book.
Definitely agree with the third Anne series. My friend and I were so excited when it came out. The thing that bothered us the most was how off the character was. I didn't even know there was a prequel.
I think that is my favorite of the Harry Potter movies, so I can't imagine it being better. I have never read any of the books. I did pick up a copy of the first one recently though.
I watched Timeline before I knew it was based on a book, so even though it is a terrible adaptation I can still watch it occasionally. But the book really was so much better! The first time I watched the third Harry Potter movie, I felt like I was pointing out something wrong with it every 2-3 minutes. So disappointing! A few of my least favorite adaptations are the Hobbit movies, Inkheart (which I actually gave up watching half an hour into it), and the Kenneth Branagh version of Death on the Nile. It sounds like that one didn't change as much from the book as Hallowe'en Party did, but it still changed some important aspects of the story and added in a backstory for Poirot that was not needed and is inaccurate to Poirot's actual history.
I absolutely love and adore the Percy Jackson book series but hate and despise the movie adaptations. I just finished my second year of college but for one of English classes we had to make a critique on something and chose to compare the movie to the book. Our essays had to be at least 6 pages…I wrote 27. I do like the tv series and hope that it does all five books plus the Heroes of Olympus series.
I avoid movie adaptations most of the time for all the reasons you said! - Mainly because I want the movie to be exactly like the book! Is that too much to ask? I mean, the book is popular for a reason, right? I have watched a few of the American Girl movies and a couple of Austen's - the rule for myself is to never EVER watch the movie before reading the book! 😃😃

There's an Emily adaptation? I had no idea! Oh yeah, I strongly disliked the third Anne movie. So different from the books! OOOOHHHHH a Rilla of Ingleside adaptation would be AWESOME!!!! I didn't know there was a prequel. And I had heard about the Netflix series so I haven't even bothered to try it because I know it would make me mad. My least favorite adaptation is the most recent Emma. I'm always shocked when an Austen reader actually enjoyed that one because I felt like the producers et al did not understand the characters AT ALL, and they definitely did not understand what Austen was doing and saying with that book. The movie was utterly ridiculous and that nosebleed scene at the end was just.... ugh. Stupid. I hate that one, if you can't tell. 😆😆
I haven’t seen that Emma, so that is good to know! I wish so much that they had made it a Rilla adaptation! It could have been so good! And now Jonathan Crombie is gone, so they couldn’t. 😔
I don’t generally mind them going off the rails too much in tv shows but the one that comes to mind is big little lies!! I loved the book!! And I despised the show. It made Madeline a cheater and just… I hated everybody!
Another favorite movie of mine is Timeline! And I have always wondered about the book. I read one of his books ages ago called Disclosure which I enjoyed. And I did see the movie later and it was a let down from the book.
Most of the non-Anne ones here are books I haven't read or movies I haven't seen. But the adaptation that immediately comes to mind for me whenever this topic comes up is Mansfield Park (1999). Terrible, terrible. And I loved the book. I haven't read it since that first time though. And I haven't watched another adaptation, although I hear that the 2007 one is good, so I'll have to look into it. I'm not even sure my husband and I finished the other one. We felt it shouldn't have been called Mansfield Park. 😆
@@CandlewickLibrary And I almost forgot, In This House of Brede was no where near the book. In fact, so much was missing - and other things added in - that it's like a different story.
What do you think about The Maze Runner? I like the movies almost as much as I like the books! The adaptation that i really disliked was the witches from Roald Dahl.
I haven’t seen the Maze Runner, so I couldn’t give an opinion on that one! It’s good to hear it’s a good one. I agree- The Witches wasn’t a good adaptation. I forgot about that one!
That's disappointing to hear that about Sullivan and Anne.

The sass 😂😂 I love the passion!

I don’t even think those Anne series are available to stream! But yeah. I felt like even Anne of Avonlea went off the rails!
I haven’t seen them anywhere. I have the dvd’s so I’ve never had to go looking for them.

Me too. I was SO excited… then so let down.
@@CandlewickLibrary I only watched a couple episodes of Anne with an E. It had a weird vibe. Precise, I know! 😂

At least you didn't come across as overly passionate on any of these. 😂😂😂 Enjoyable video.
Thanks! 😂
I think I hated goblet of fire movie more than I hated azkaban.
That’s what one of my daughters said too
I love The Prisoner of Azkaban- movie and book are my favorite. I agree with you on all the other ones I have seen though!

Same. I wish I had the money, talent, and know-how to start a film company. Then I would make true to the book adaptations that would be crazy long. 😂
