Cleaning a $5,000 Louis Vuitton Jacket

  • This is how a dry cleaner cleans a $5,000 Louis Vuitton wool and leather variety jacket by hand!
    First, lots of lint removal through brushes, combs and rollers. Once we can see the actual soil it’s time to get to work.
    I used two different dry cleaning solvents to treat these food stains on the wool, luckily they lifted up quite easily as they were likely new stains.
    Once I was happy with the wool body of the jacket, I moved onto the leather. There were a few pretty soiled leather areas but with the help of my foaming water based cleaning along with my solvent based degreases they were gone in no time.
    Now that the jacket is clean, I conditioned the leather parts to protect the skin and touched up the wool with some more lint rolling.
    I hope this video gave you some insight as to how very expensive clothing must be maintained properly.
    Happy cleaning!
    For more tips and tricks feel free to throw me a sub! I’m also on IG and TT @jeeves_ny

    These get sent out to leather fur specialists or done by water based cleaning method. Your method only cleans the outside(exterior) of the fabric, inside and out but the inside jacket is not thoroughly cleaned. There are about 4 Dry cleaning solvents, not sure which solvent you’re using but if it’s (perc), it would need to dry then neutralize by cold air with Freon gas like in a dry cleaning machine’s last cycle(not to mention perc is illegal in many states). Even leather fur specialist cleans everything by water, they have chemicals and steaming/stretching machines to do the finishes. Just make sure it dries fully but I doubt it’s fully sanitized inside and out.

The shop person gave me a "depilling stone" which, to the best of my knowledge, is about the size of a melamine sponge (rectangular, about 12cm × 4cm/ 4.5" × 2") but made of a rough black material similar to pumice (it might even be a type of pumice). It's suuuupee rough and even trying it on a tiny patch seemed to do little and, in fact, made it a little bit worse because that specific sweater is a very delicate, stretchy merino/bamboo blend. What gives?

      "A coat like this will be anywhere from 100-500 bucks. The final price depends on how he has to clean it."
      Generally though... yeah.. it was about 150 for a coat like that... so i'd guess it's probably a 200-250 cleaning these days.

    • @biosaber585
      @biosaber585 Рік тому +1

      @@s.r6331 kinda? Leather is a material that does NOT like water, it's essentially dead skin so water will strip the oils from the leather making it dry, shrink and often crack, think about your own skin, yknow how you feel weirdly grippy after a good cleaning shower? It's because your natural oils are gone. The problem is we can replace those, leather can't, so you gotta do a LOT of work to bring it back to baseline after it's been exposed to water like for washing. Wool is another that likes to shrink when washed so it's often suggested if it MUST be washed in water use cold and air dry it slowly, or better yet freeze it, cold does wonders to kill odors in fabrics. I'd say honestly this jacket could get normal cleaning done to it, cold water spot cleaning on the wool and traditional leather cleaners on the leather aspects. Usually tags list things as non cleanable basically as a "hey, don't throw this in the washing machine" warning.

      I would prefer leather and wool over pvc and polyester. But hey if you really think about it all of our clothing is coming for dead living organisms. It’s either made from animals, plants, or plastic which is technically a fossil fuel which are just really old prehistoric animals and plants buried by layers of rocks. It’s all gross if you really break it down. But that’s the circle of life lol

    My mom says cleaning an all black rodeo outfit with real silver topstitching and black leather chaps with the her dad's initials in real silver thread. And all the buttons and metal bits be real silver. She always said that's the hardest thing to clean and polish all the silver because it tarnishes.and to wax and clean everything.

    Idk why the jacket gets so much hate. I have a few similar to this brand and all you gotta do is wear it during the winter (no snow) and it’s worth it. Useful for photo shoots for the gram or just to go to the casino or something. Also the re-sell value is pretty high on these, especially if you can get a signature on the insides
