This was my D&D story.
Believe me when I say that as a DM, I was very happy that such an amazing experience happened to my players. It’s the greatest feeling in the world.
It was a great story. I just started my journey as a DM I have played before early 2000s and have not played since my kids have wanted to play so I started them with the lost mines adventure session 1 was 9 hours long and when it ended I was asked can we play again tomorrow. By this point my voice was soar and all I could get out was no I need a week to plan the next part of the adventure
That was truly a wonderful story. I actually teared up when he was blessing his fellow party members. It seemed so special and you handled that sendoff beautifully. I hope none of our party, or myself, have to be retired forever, but- if it does, i would cherish an experience such as this as a last goodbye. Thank you for sharing.
Also have you ever watched avatar legend of anng because the main character of that is a monk who is an air bender and the avatar who is able to bend water, fire, earth and air with air being his original element the human monk was an avatar reference
@@digishade7583 Yeah, that was an awesome reference.
Loved the whole story...what an epic sendoff!
Silverymoon?
...Rampage, is that you?
"Every monk in the temple jumped into the fray"
*Everybody was Kung-Fu Fightng*
And then went on a vacation by a lakeside
*they were as fast as lightning*
Them fist was fast as lightning 🤣
Somebody was shooting lightning
Beat me to it with "Everybody was Kung-Fu Fighting". So, here's your thumbs-up. ;)
I played Norvik in this game and this session was easily one of the top sessions we ever played. It get reference alot in our new game for laughs and our DM even brought Drew back for a little over the phone for our new Cleric so he can be his deity. Adron is his god that he worships
Fucking epic dude
That's metal.
Hooray for technology eh?
Waaaait a minute. Dude, this is *your* story? Allow me to say this, without a gram of irony: Cool story bro
@@rodrigosierpe5995 Well It's the DM's story. I was just part of the chaos
Was Ang the Last Airbender? Otherwise good characters. Even Ang sounds good, just the same name.
Such a refreshing story amidst a sea of "That Guy", "How I beat the DM", and other such stories. Great players and an excellent DM. Bravo!
I once played a goblin cleric that started as a gag character because we needed a healer and my previous pc had died. It was a joke that he enjoyed jumping over buildings and scouting out the local area any time we got somewhere new, and do to both a ring and his trusty spear... both magical that increased his movement and jumping ability, was very good at it. Eventually he was the only pc still living after a difficult boss fight that lead to him meeting one of the elder gods that had taken a liking to him and his antics. He was ascended as a minor diety of both life and rabbits. He has made a few appearances in later campaigns during sticky situations by falling from the sky and defeating whatever the party had been about to loose to, heal them, and with a bit of maniacal laughter just jumps right back into the stratosphere. (His name was Tim)
PenguinJack
That’s flipping brilliant. Lmao. Awesome
Some call me.....Tim.
Something like that happened to us except it was a gorilla that died to stop the BBEG
Bless Tim
Jiveequation no Tim blesses you
"i noticede you like to stab things alot"
I couldn't help but to imagine aHigh Elf brushing as Adrian blessed him
Yet!!! At the every beginning of the game he didn't want to kill a sleeping Goblin
That pritty much sumes up the 5e fighter class.
No spells
No Cantrips
Just a sword and a good old arm
@@kaiblackfang6498 thats funny. I teased my wife for taking a reaction to kill a goblin. He was running away, but probably to find help.
Am I the only one who pictured Bruce Wayne talking to Aquaman while reading the op?😄
Adran: *uses the amulet for it's evil soul sucking purpose out of potential ignorance*
Me: "wait... This guy is the one that became a demigod?"
Adam Justice In Hindsight, I gave them a religion check to see if anyone knew anything about the tear of the sun. Surprisingly, no one made that check.
Ignorance is bliss?? LOL
Adran: "Let me go to confront the big bad guy and his 20 lackeys alone"
@@TheAzrael666death Well, he wanted a 1v1 but *someone* had different plans. But, it led to the ascendance of a cool Monk, so it's alright in the end.
To be fair... if he'd had his way it pprobably never would've come to that and also, my take on it is Adran's ascension was more about his selfless spirit and commitment (Remember, for the CR of this quest the reward was basically pocket change, but he convinced the party to do it anyway.)
Alternate Title: I oopsed and became god
Ang is my character, and he is a chaotic wood elf (not sure how his race changed mid-story) who ran away from his elemental monastery when he was young because he didn’t like all the rules and responsibilities, only to become lost in a dark mystical wood for a 100 years after he accidentally activated a curse by a witch. He was finally freed by a brother and sister who were looking for some food in the woods (Hanselokka and Gretelara). After he showed them how to open the oven they were trapped in and said thank you, he returned home only to find his village destroyed and his family gone. He is now wandering the world looking for traces of his family, trying to save his sister from slavery, and trying to master the elements so he will be able to avenge his village, rescue his sister and restore balance to his world. But a disjointed voice in his head tells him every day he has a lot to learn before he can save anybody.
Not sure who this Last Airbender character everyone keeps mentioning is, but he sounds cool. 😉
Aang is a monk who masters all 4 elements to end a world war against a nation of fire users. His entire people were destroyed, but he himself is semi devine. After death he reincarnates as another elemental bender who then masters all 4 main elements again.
My god the number of references lol.
them references be good
especially working it into the setting
Are you sure the disjointed voice isn’t Katara during the intro?
@@dorianrobinette9712 yea it's painful
Am I the only one that see Sokka (The Last Airbender) as the character on the left?
I see that now...
Coincidentally one of the party members is a elemental human monk named ang. Rings any bell?
Now that you pointed it out, I can see it
I saw it the whole time
Aang the monk too.
Signs of a good game master: He doesn't killjoy his campaign by redacting a rule he was supposed to have followed. Anyways, I think that suggestion magic is less of a charm and more of a subtle mental prod so magic resistance to charm shouldn't bother with it. Sort of like The Master's hypnosis in Doctor Who. ;)
Christian Groff it’s specifically stated in the spells description that creatures immune to charm aren’t effected by the spell
But I agree that not going back and killjoying it was the better decision
I like the cut of this DM's jib. Definitely my kind of RP.
and this is why if you are about to eat an artifact of power to become a god you make sure you don't have anything living in your stomach when you do it, total noob mistake Kovrym
Imagine if the dragon had some of these stomach pest worm things inside
God of gut worm's
Aw, my first character that I'm still playing today is a Moon Elf from Silverymoon.
Edit: I didn't tear up ಥ_ಥ I swear
Wait, Aang the monk? Can we get more of him? He’s yet to defeat the fire lord!
not the ang thats talked about
Yeah, retiring a PC is a tough call... Hard to put the valid respect due a PC being "ended" without getting too mushy and all.
It's worth pointing out that NOT all Players even want "Happily Ever After" with their retirement... At some point, however, with Level-based RPG's there's just a point at which the Character is either destined for Deification, or Tragedy. Either one works, so long as it's epic enough to justify in the level of Game... recognizing these Characters as long term friends, people we know better than we can even know ourselves... That helps.
I've had a very few PC's Ascend... One or two on purpose (they outright worked to become gods), and a couple more or less "accidental"... (lolz) It looks funny to me just typing that out. "How does one accidentally ascend to become a deity?" Right? It seems like the forgone conclusion of a long and harrowing road of heroics (or absolute villainy) to build one's theme as a Force of Nature... etc.
BUT some of us just keep playing too long. It becomes the forgone conclusion, should they not find a way to get killed, they simply become deities of some sort. Even Demigods can be killed... of course... AND how you prefer to run your "metaphysics" is obviously up to you as a GM.
Had a Necromancer become a Lich, at around 27th Level... AND we went at it the old "XP" and Math means, so that took a while... AND when he "retired" there wasn't even a dry eye among people who didn't play the game... BUT the Players rather enjoyed that bit, too... Keeping in mind these were Players over a Campaign that literally lasted years. SO ex'ing one Character by the hand of another to become a lich was a hell of a send-off... maybe not the most epic end... BUT certainly emotionally impactful.
Had another Ascend as a Patron Deity to those misplaced, lost, or without a home... He'd started as a "street rat" who was taken in by an old Enchanter...
Had one essentially give up adventuring and open a bar... It's an interesting (and repeating) location in the Games I run... He's also basically a Demigod, but his "domain" is the bar... the one that exists pretty much everywhere. It's a great boon to those who figure out the riddle... learn to use it as more than the "starting location" for a trope of RPG's.
Other Characters are just too damn memorable to give up... AND so become NPC's to the best of my memory, or as best I recall/how I'd have done it... Why fix or replace something that's so much fun both RP'ing and interacting with the Players... NEVER waste an inspirational moment.
I've only been RP'ing and GM'ing for thirty years, so there have been a LOT of PC's over the time. Not all games get into high levels, and not everything goes according to plans... BUT we try to give a hell of a story anyway with whatever we get. ;o)
*a year later some random stranger reads this post* ..huh.. I was wondering why bars looked the same. *he shrugs and walks off into the sunset*
THIRTY YEARS?!?!?
@@spongy7426 Yep... bought my first DMG and a set of dice when I was 9 years old... inspired by the cartoon show (back in the 80's) and I thought I'd tackle it and see what it was all about...
Yeah, the early games were... well... written out by a 9 year old from a ratty old first edition DMG... no PHB (We made some of the stuff up as we went)... so kind of "ambitious horse-sh*t" if we're honest... BUT we had fun... Took turns GM'ing and building dungeons...
I'm into my 40's now, and never really gave it up. I do a bit more with GURPS these days, but I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for D&D. ;o)
@@gnarthdarkanen7464 wow cool!
@@spongy7426 Thanks... It just proves that if you're willing to do the work-part, TTRPGs never have to get old or boring. There's always another story to tell, another adventure to have... another escape with friends and allies away from the "modern society" and it's hum-drum...
I hope you find as much fun and friendship as I have in THE greatest hobby on Earth (as far as I'm concerned). ;o)
My favorite moment was when my sorcerer held off an entire army of mercenaries and almost singlehandedly sent them all screaming. It was a training session set up by the merc captain. I had mage armor active as the army eventually surrounded my sorcerer and the other party members were fighting the smaller groups. I spammed shield boosting my ac to 20. None of them rolled a nat 20 as their weapons bounced harmlessly off my sorcerer. I rolled intimidation and I rolled high enough to send them all running after I convinced them I was invincible.
I can't wait to hear the next salana adventure.
When physics gives adventurers who think they can float to the ground after a 1000 foot fall a reality check. XD
Christian Groff well physics doesn’t really apply to magical teleportation. Personally I rule that it stops your momentum but that’s just my opinion as a dm
@@captainkiwi77 but if it suddenly stops ur momentum, u would still die
Ang the elemental monk. Sounds familliar
My only greatest memory of playing DnD was when my elf fighter entered a tournament only to lose in the first round and then spectate a goblin against a half-orc and betting on said goblin expecting to lose, only to see said goblin win against the half-orc by grapple. I was laughing irl because no one expected it, not even the DM, my only regret about that fight was that I didn't bet more than what I expected to lose hahaha!
I’ve only retired 1 pc as a dm, I set it up so that he could live happily with the widower in town he’d been courting for a number of sessions, he became a stepdad, and an informational asset going forward, as well as a grounding force for a couple sessions for a few of the pc’s (his character came about at a time when our attendance and consistency was really up in the air after a pretty intense midpoint to an arc, his character was brought back from death but the experience traumatized them enough to go to a nearby city for a break, in the interim the party took side quests and met his temp character who I then retired)
love that you show us these stories, dnd stories are by far my favorite stories
I feel like a level 12 group of sunsoul monks would let themselves get charmed, leave the premises of the building and then use their stillness of mind ability.
YIRBEL LIVES....hold on now, That background image that race it seems as familiar as it isn’t. Right on the tip of my tongue and yet I cannot say. I’ll have to figure out before I see the whole thing!
Firbolg?
Blue OdysseyformeryTheTwd, yeah I think it is a firblog
Dat boi is a rude boi oh dang it I was wrong! Thought it was some sort of animalkin thing
stubby hands oh lovely! how do you do yourself?
Honestly I wasn't aware firbolgs had fur.
The beginning reminded me of when I had to move away from my dnd session. My tiefling rogue went off in an epic way and the last session was so heartfelt i cried after
That was one great story. I look forward to the next stroy. In the meantime I will counting to plan my second game as DM for this weekend. The first one was a 9 hour session which 8 of those hours I was standing
Great story worthy of being animated or even a video game 👍
Now THIS is the kid of D&D story I subbed for! Character focused!
I wish my "I'm a deity now" story were that good. It was the very last session of the campaign and my character accepted becoming the new goddess of war after she'd killed the last one and sacrificed herself to help take out Tiamat and Shar and save the rest of the party. She wanted a good afterlife, but the DM had the Pale Woman (goddess of death and her former warlock patron) offer her a place as a god instead. She accepted so she could go back and help the party finish the fight. And then she got back to the party just in time to watch her husband die, and take out what was left of Shar with him. So... accepted becoming a deity - something she did not ever want - for nothing. I've rarely been so disappointed in an ending in my 20+ years at the table.
my father DM'ed a barbarean named Bamshuckbudunga "And no thats not a mistake it was actualy his name". as a send off he simply removed all his armor and went off to go fight a red dragon, we never ran the incounter, the campain insted just ended with the beast staring him dowen right befor the fight.
I played a halfling thief named Lilac for quite a few adventures. She and the NPC halfling fighter in the party ended up getting married and settling down. It was quite cute. Not turning into a deity epic but she was one of my favorite characters and I was glad that she didn't meet a bloody end. She did come out of retirement to rescue her kidnapped child. That was also a fun adventure.
This story is now one of my favorites. I found it heartwarming and beautiful. It was silly in places that made me smile. I think the funnier parts made the epic ending more epic-er. Even though I knew kind of how it would end, it was still glorious.
The dragon's death made me think back to the death star. About to destroy the enemy, only to blow up before he could.
The gate spell requires a willing creature in order for it to work, as does a lot of teleportation spells save for banishment, I don't think that gate trap would have worked.
Syque Greywolf and doesn’t misty step move you through the ethereal plane? As in immaterial? As in no matter to preserve the kinetic energy? Methinks the DM was hankerin to end that PC...
Syque Greywolf Hello, thank you for the comment. When I was designing this encounter I was surprised to find in the spell’s description that this spell does not need a willing creature for it to work. When I used it on the player, he was given a dex save to avoid the gate forming at his feet. His failed save resulted in gravity pulling him through the gate and thus begin his fall.
@@AnkhAnanku To be fair. By this point with Norvik he had a 28 AC and 33 when Shield was active. There were a lot of encounters that if he didn't roll a nat 20 I would not get hit. The misty step was a way for me to have a bit of extra fun that just back fired.
@Gannon&Kai your reply is much appreciated. I see context is everything and as long as you were having fun with it all is well.
AnkhAnanku no Briefly surrounded by silvery mist, you Teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space that you can see.
The Viking funeral of PC retirement. Gone but never forgotten.
I love the monk class I just wish it didn’t suck so hard. Trying to keep them alive is really hard.
I always wish I had longer and more memorable campaigns, so I could share a story.
Omg I cried. Again! Where do you find these stories that have such an effect on me every time!!
I love how Ang the human monk is inspired by the Airbender Aang
I think his domain should’ve been something more obscure, like “the deity of favorable honest mistakes” or something. ‘Cause there should’ve already been a god/goddess of martial arts and/or elemental manipulation, no? Or maybe a combination of those three. Lol
messedupdweeb it’s possible that in their campaign, there wasn’t one.
Awesome_Atlantean True. It’d be funny though if he was a god of that too because that’s the reason he ascended. Like, the remaining PC’s, whenever a mistake ends in a favorable situation, an image of Adran winking at them or something appears and they mutter a quick prayer of thanks. Lol
Maybe he was the reincarnation of said god
Way of the Drunken Master?
When the dice gods hold their blessings until it REALLY matters. That first nat 20 was a miracle.
great story man,
keep up the good work!
I cant wait for the new monk subclass to be used in the future
Yeeaahhh!!!! Always excited for a new episode!!!!
This was truly an amazing story
Ang the human monk??? I hear the avatar fandom.....
Well it's a common east Asian name and there's probably a monk named Aang somwhere.
...With that being said, the Last Airbender would make a perfect elemental using monk indeed
Apparently hes actually a wood elf. Slight mistake in the story. Also he knows Hansel and Grettle.
2 of the platers are in the comments.
@@LegendStormcrow welp, that's sad that there was a mistake in the story. ..... Now my joke is useless....
@@Stitched-Bones its still totally avatar, its hanselokka and gretalarra :)
@@Nverdis I think elemental monks are underpowered at least in 5e I think, since they have to spend so much ki for magic
This was probably my favorite D&d story I’ve heard
Wait! He rolled wisdom to remember something? Ain't that supposed to be History?
I don't play DnD; but Thank you for sharing these wonderful stories.
I dream of the day I can either DM or play in a campaign like this
This is the best nat 20 story I've ever heard.
Christ, this, this was beautiful and just so yes. This is why I miss dnd but no longer have anyone to play with.
I found groups to play with on discord
We are planning to move out of state before the campaign ends, so I have slowly been playing up the heroic aspects of my Half-Elf Cleric, so that should I decide to go out in a blaze of glory in his final session it won't be too out of character.
That was amazing!
It's always sad to see a pc go, but that was pretty great. Quite the way to leave the group.
This was super wholesome.
That is very touching and bad ass!
If you overlook something like that (mass suggestion immunity), you can always say an unknown force assisted.
Great story, but I have to say. That picture kept reminding me of a certain picture of Molag Bal
Video title: Ingenuous Monk
Narrator: Ingenious Monk
The notification came an hour after the video released.
One if my characters was retired via sacrifice, the party was on a docked air ship fighting the boss before the BBEG, the boss we were fighting attempted to kill all of use by taking the ship down from the dock (dock is located on a floating island) the how he attempted to do it would have killed all if use, but my character managed to cast feather fall, but due to the party size of 6 and the spells limit if 5, I sacrificed myself to say the group, the scene was memorable because the DM made it pretty in depth with the scene.
Nice stuff!
This is probably my favorite story so far! I loved the ending so much
I’m so happy that his final roll was a nat 20. He deserved that final roll with his friends. And if he can see this comment I’d like him to know that I will remember him even if I never met him.

This's the most touching All Things DnD story I've heard do far; wow.
People were so tired of us posting terrible DM stories, we thought of going berserk posting all kinds of positive stories. I think it was a good run.
@@allthingsdnd I couldn't agree more.
Everyone: talks about their dm
Me:I don’t uNdErStAnD.
I was never allowed to play DND with everyone they always shooed me away
Try taking a shower and washing your clothes once in a while. It helps!
Ey I mean you may not be as little as your user name suggests, but it does remind me of how my sisters and cousins wouldn't let me play Risk with them when I was small, and told me that the game would be too hard for me, but I was able to read the box and see that I was of age and in retrospect I probably would have beat them all. I've always been into war and that sort of thing, but sometimes people just suck. Perhaps it is good that you miss those groups, so that you find the perfect one later.
spellwing777 ok rude. First off let me tell you something, down where I live most people do not have running water. I am fortunate to have that. Second off your probably a city folk or better yet a yahoo. Meaning if you ever were to come down and hike, I’d be pulling your dead body out of a canyon while doing search and rescue. They didn’t let me play because they were older. They had their own friend group and I was intruding on them. Before you speak think about the effect your words have on others.
MORE TEARS AND SO COOL!!!
but the best part of retiring a pc is continuing the same campain as a new character with the previous pc as part of the world's lore and possibly part of that character's backstory
Sometimes the DM just has to roll with their mistake.
I'm just playing my first campait. As a Firbolg monk too, he's kind of a dumb dumb with a heart of gold. The ending when he used amulet and later infused himself with holy power, is some thing my PC could do too. Not so mutch by me not understanding the plan, but him just doing somethig stupied again xD
Sometimes the brightness light comes the darkness of places
Great turn of events
I would be absolutely sobbing if this was my game
That animation looks funky
"Ang the human monk"
It is the avatar! All bow before him!
Top5 Top3 maybe even Top2 Narrated D&D Story.
That is my goal as a player: make a character strong enough, and finish their story with either victory, or sacrifice.
Welp.....if you're gonna roll only one natural 20 it might as well be the one to become a god.
"I want to be a human monk, a follower of Odron." *links this video to the DM*
This needs more images .
Cool story
A side quest he said, it will be just a small thing he said. Boom demigod.
Airbending God.
Ang didn't become the Avatar, but the Furbolg sure did.
I’ve never gotten to retire a PC.
The closest I got was with a Teifling Druid who was a sort of dad to the group.
I could tell the hour plus story of how he get to be In that situation but long story short: he we stabbed by a VINPC (Very Important NPC) and died in 2 rounds of combat. IN the end he “retired” buried under the ash’s of his old home, his ghost there dancing to an unheard waltz. The party’s warlock casting Speak with Dead on him when he needed advice.
I'm not crying, you're crying!
Momentum carries over though teleportation ? Hmm that could be interesting can you pick which direction your momentum is facing like if your falling could you say teleport with the intention of having it go from going down to say up for a super uppercut or a flying clothesline ?
ingenious---- has no one else noticed this?
Whenever I get the time I would love to play D&D. I would love to play and DM. Yet not at the same time though unless the party needs/wants to recruit an NPC. Yet turning my character into a deity sounds fun and it makes sense to do so at level 20 or when the campaign is coming to a close.
Yo this dm sounds like an awesome one!!!
He is the best one I have ever had. Im so happy his wife contacted me say that her husband wanted DM
That isn't how misty step works. You dissipate into mist and reappear. That was a fuck-up on the DM's side.
That was so fucking awesome.
I realize I'm a little late but the word foyer is French and is pronounced foy-yay. Love this channel
Considering how many PC's retire as Gods or Demogods, I wonder if there's a deity for everything? Like, is there a god of bland tasting foods? A god of teenage awkwardness? A god of that weird feeling you get when you think you're about to take a step up or down but the stair isn't there and you stumble?
Or, is it like, there's thousands of God's of Life, Death, Love, generic stuff. Do they all fight each other for dominance? Do they bicker? Do they have brunches together?
Ninjas cutting onions
Who else thought of Tangled after hearing the tear of the sun?
i literally cried
My level 20 character made a deal with both Bahamut and Tiamat to make her the demi goddess of life and death (multi class necromancer cleric) of dragons and to give the half dragon girl full draconic ability.
In exchange she, her sister and the rest of her party saved exsistence. Crazy huh?
I want to do this now
