When I lived in Los Angeles I lived not far from Silver Lake. Over the years Silver Lake became so popular that I started to see ads for rental properties claiming to be in the Silver Lake area when in fact they were as far away as Fountain Avenue farther west on Sunset Blvd.
I lived on Hyperion at Sunset through the 80's before it was cool. When they started the junction fair it got even cooler. Now I'm stuck in a corn field in Penna. L.A's the place!
I too lived on Hyperion Ave. off of Sunset Blvd near Sanborn Junction. Lived there from 1965 to 1978. Back then, as you said, it wasn't all that cool of an area. Rents were very affordable.
I miss 60s through 90s Silver Lake. It used to be almost the only person walking around the reservoir was the "Walking Doctor of Silver Lake." There are just way too many people here, now. Hey, get offa my lawn!!
I used to love walking to that area. (I'd walk up the hills coming from the downtown area) but I stopped because the people who live in those homes seem to think that I was a sort of thief and once i was confronted for stopping to rest and take pictures. Granted my fashion sense is nothing to brag about, but I am far from homeless looking. lol.
