I attended nearby John Marshall High School, and I am quite familiar with all of Los Feliz. It was a great place to live in the 1960s and 1970s. Very affordable compared to today.

Hi Jim. I lived right next to there between 2008 and 2017.

I would say the Hollywood-elite drove the prices high....but how could it be affordable if the Holywood-people are living there since the beginning of the entertainment-industry?

I enjoyed your video "bloke". However, my perspective is different having now lived here in Los Feliz for 40 years - from the age of 30 when I fit right in, to being a partially disabled retired senior citizen of 70.. I would feel like a complete outsider now as I've aged out of the dominant demographic by so much, but the neighborhood seems so much the same as it was in 1983, that I still feel at home here - though definitely out of my element if I venture into the local social life of the bars, restaurants, et al. Los Feliz has hardly changed at all since I came -- another era, but it was the same place - a vintage neighborhood buzzing with the energy of the arts and entertainment industries and hipster happy.
It's been a blessing how little residential and commercial development has taken place here. Many new businesses that keep the hipster quotient up to date, but mostly occupying the same old buildings, storefronts, and demographics. It was and remains "vintage" in appearance with just a smidgen more population density. Not what one expects over time in a place like Los Angeles at all. When I arrived in the 80's, much of adjacent Silver Lake and Echo Park were sketchy dilapidated places, at least south of Sunset. Now they have seen tremendous gentrification and change, for better and for worse. But old Los Feliz didn't have much "sketch" to it, and stayed much the same as it was when Cecil B. DeMille, Walt Disney, and W.C. Fields lived and worked here.

Excellent commentary. I went to John Marshall High School in the 1960s and traveled Hillhurst, Los Feliz Blvd and surrounding streets hundreds of times. Had high school friends who lived on Cummings Drive off of Los Feliz, a very expensive private street even back then.

Hi Matt, would you say Los Feliz and Silver Lake are the closest thing to SW London (Richmond, Wimbledon & Putney kinda place?). I’m looking for a safe neighbourhood for a single woman with plenty of running spots and artsy places to go on the weekends. 😊

      @TheBritishBlokeRealtor  Рік тому +1

Hi Zaira. Yes its very artsy and sunset junctions has many great spots. SW london seems a little more trendy and chic though. Its pretty safe. Depending on which part of town you want to live in there is also culver city, hermosa beach and westwood that offer what you are looking for. Thanks for reaching out.

I think buying a 1-2 million dollar home is out of reach for a lot of people. To buy a home in that price range, you gotta be making 2-300K/year at least or your an entrepreneur or famous actor.

Exactly. Home buying has got very expensive over the last 3 years

I am surprised that it took so long. Right in Los Feliz you have Laughlin Park, the home of the rich Hollywood-elite since the days of Charlie Chaplin.

Can someone tell me if there are raccoons and squirrels in those neighborhoods?
I want to live in a town where there are raccoons and squirrels and crows too.
In that neighborhood of Los Angeles: are there raccoons and squirrels?

Great video - I'm interested in hearing more about gentrification. Gentrification isn't good, it often completely destroys the character of a place and dislocates the people who originally called it home. People need to be aware of this when moving.

I think in areas that were known for gangs and crime if gentrification happens that should be a good thing. Los Feliz, Highland Park, Echo Park for example. Even places like Inglewood and Long Beach too.

It's like most of the "place names" - neighborhoods and streets throughout Los Angeles and Southern Cal where the correct pronunciation has been altered forever by the diverse hordes who have come to settle here without knowing the proper Spanish pronunciation. I am a gringo, but I had studied Spanish before I moved here 40 years ago. My inclination was to pronounce Spanish place names using proper Spanish because I didn't know any better - I had never heard of Los Feliz, but this is where I moved to and still live today. Nobody knew wtf I was saying when I pronounced it properly 40 years ago. Eventually I became acclimated to the local abominations and caved in to the "when in Rome" approach.

I’ve got you beat! I looked at a 2 bed~2bath 1400 sq ft duplex to rent in Los Feliz in 1998 for $950 per month! I also looked at a small (Spanish style house)1300 sq ft house to buy for less than $200K in Los Feliz. My friend rented a 1 bed~1 bath 1000 sq ft duplex in Mid City for $600 per month until she bought a duplex for $400k (2000) that is now values at $1.7M. Can LA go back to normal pricing? 😫

i think it's so cruel when people talk about "homelessness" as a problem that needs to be solved for the benefit of people who rent or own. homelessness is a problem that should be solved for the benefit of people who are pushed to the edge of society without support. you are literally showing 3500 dollar flats in this video. im sure many of the homeless around there COULD afford the rent in the past but got priced out of their places as gentrification set in. I just wish there was more compassion.

They should move to an area that is more affordable obviously; there are 50 states 😂
