Well damn that explains alot.
uh huh.... lol. Dragonball did have some terrible writing but people take it a little too hard, in the literal sense that is based on a manga like any other comic book. Like the MCU, its whatever the writers come up with.

Lmao bro
People laugh but i think this is a pretty reasonable thought. Prior to cell, they kind of just went through cities not caring much about the life they discarded.
But as soon as cell showed up, actively hunting them down, it was kind of like a wake up call

Android 16 is android 8..
This is the best explanation I’ve seen on why the androids weren’t genocidal maniacs like their future counterparts. Though I still think Future Android 16 was created, just never put out in the open and was probably hidden from the other 2 as Gero would’ve never considered him due to Goku dying 6 months prior to the initial attack.
If you watch team four star review there episodes they talk about the stark difference in the androids and explain exactly this. If not exactly the same way then with even more detail
Are u kidding?😂 they slaughtered people and said it was 'a game' if that isn't a maniac what is?
@@dancooke8811 what are u talking about? Who did they slaughter in the present timeline?
@@UniVS427lol bro watching dragon ball ABCDEFG 😂😂😂
I always thought it was because the current Androids JUST got woken up and had like a day to show their moral characters
The future Androids had 20 YEARS and I assume eventually started out mellow but then realized their full destruction capabilities and said ‘fuck it.’
If the current Androids had the time & freedom with no threat, they’d probably be almost (or just) as bad.
I think that is correct, cause 17 becomes a park ranger and 16 loved nature. I also think there's some inspiration from Android 8 there too.
He ranged the shit out of that park
@@alexburrows2835lol he took his work on vacation with him
I miss Eight-er.
Everyone needs a bird lover in their friend group to keep them on the straight path.
"I must kill son Goku."
"Sure big guy, but 18 wants to get some new clothes first and I want to drive a truck."
I feel the most logical explanation was that gero woke up 17&18 earlier then he wanted to. If the z fighters didnt interact with gero he would've edited 17&18 more which would alter their personality more and to decrease their overall strength. In the main timeline we see he woke them as a last resort. I think that when gero hastily woke them they still had a good amount of humanity left in them and it wasn't programmed out of them yet.
Explanations like this are puzzling to me. The androids awoke on the exact same day in both timelines.
@@Annihilationzh well the only reason why the z fighters fought gero and Android 19 was due to future information from trunks believing it was Android 17&18 who initially first attacked which is shown when trunks didn't recognize them. When gero goes back to his lab to activate 17 and 18 he was forced to, he wanted to work on them more. That's why he had the deactivation device he knew they never really followed his commands and was surprised when they faked their loyalty when first awakening from their stasis
@@drewdimag1 that doesn't make sense tho, 17 & 18 actually killed Gero earlier than the Present counterparts, in reality, there's no "mental" differences between the prsent ones and future ones, the differences were how events played out
@@AnnihilationzhPiccolo explained the timelines changed as soon as Trunks arrived.
Technically "the androids" didn't arrive at the same time. Because it's different androids. 19/20 not 17/18.
And I think I know why, the biggest difference is. Trunks fought Frieza, not Goku.
Cell says, the computer denied Trunks DNA because it had deemed there was enough Saijin DNA present already in cell.
Which means the computer harvested no Saijin DNA and probably discarded Trunks as a variable.
In Trunk's timeline, Goku fought Frieza. Meaning the computer had the opportunity to see Goku's super Saijin strength. Gero with this information, probably estimated that though 17/18 needed more work and were rebellious. He had no choice 19 and himself just wouldn't cut it. So he went against better reasoning and was killed by 17/18.
But
With Trunks fighting Frieza the last point of reference for Goku is when he fought Vegeta. With a natural progression, Gero expects a very weak Goku that can easily be defeated by 19. So he chooses not to awaken 17/18, because he's afraid they will not obey him and will rebel. Which they do.
They attacked the same day the gero and 19 did
It also helped that they both got humbled big-time by cell in this timeline.
Being on the receiving end of torment and being saved by the Z Fighters likely paved the way for their change of heart as well
But they didn't kill the z fighters in their first encounter when they had a chance to.
@marcusmjx740 That's cause they were goofing around and more focused on killing Goku before anyone else. At the time they didn't really care
@@Artemus973 But if they were truly evil and vicious, they would have just killed them off no? Haha ok never ending debate, but glad to chat with a fellow dbz fan! :)
@@Artemus973then why did the Future Androids kill the Z-Fighters in their 1st encounter?
it was a canon event but trunks was like"hell nah gimme that medicine"💀💀💀💀☠️
Nah, the canon event is trunks make all pf this, TP TELL ME
And all at the cost of his timeline!
Isn't it more to do with how human they still were? I'm sure they referenced it in the manga (re-reading at the moment). Trunks coming back and giving them a heads up mean that the group cross paths with the Androids earlier. In Trunks' timeline, Gero has more of a chance to make them less human, so that when they emerge they're not as powerful and don't wake up 16. In the main timeline, he wakes them up out of desperation with too much humanity still left in them, so they're stronger, a bit more driven by human desires, and wake up 16 out of curiosity.
thats an interesting head-canon, but I dont think its said anywhere as a reason for the differences. instead, the most we get is trunks commenting that the androids were weaker in the future, and that it must be the butterfly effect. I think there IS comments ABOUT the future androids being less human, but I dont know if thats supposed to be literal, or a comment on the differences in attitude between the timelines.
That's an interesting idea, but it's nothing more than a headcanon. There is no official explanation for why the Androids in the present are stronger than the Androids in the future, other than "something something bufferfly effect something".
@@danielquinlan2457 Opposite. The future androids were weaker. but yeah, I agree with you otherwise.
@@TranshumanMarissa whoops got that backwards
YES, THIS IS CORRECT!!!!
I'd like to think 17 became a national park ranger to tribute 16's love of animals.
This actually makes sense, this definitely explains why Android 17 becomes a park ranger starting all the way back in DBZ.
For those that haven't watched the anime.
Android 16 is modeled after Dr. Gero's son, Gevo.
I liked him a lot.
Also, Goku killed Gevo during his raid on the Red Ribbon headquarters when he was a child thus causing Dr Gero's want for revenge and Gokus death.
@@GodhandPhemto Yup, yup.
we all know from tfs dragonball abridged
I also think the z fighters showing them so much compassion (and rizz 😂) helped as well.
I choose to believe that Goku telling Yamcha, "You're my friend" was the real factor that changed the future
Also Dr gero said he programmed a new calm device or something on the androids but it didn't work on 17 & 18. It could be that the device worked on 16 and maybe the reason why he is so calm.
Actually, Dr. Gero intentionally made android 16 to be calm and docile so he wouldn’t get destroyed in battle because he’s model after his late son.
Because 16 is an android. 17 and 18 are cyborgs
17 & 18 are basically humans, 16 is a complete robot
Bring back 16 loved that guy
He should be alive if Android 17 was brought back after getting killed by cell. I like to think he's out there somewhere living amongst the birds
@@Cornchips-om5rf He can't be revive unless specifically wished. 16 is a full a machine he doesn't have a soul. 18 and 17 were cyborgs they were physically enhanced humans. For them to revive 16 they'd need to say, we want android 16 to be "rebuild" but that's 1 wish taken away so they can't really just waste that. Bulma could rebuild 16 but the red ribbon's blueprint for 16 was already destroyed along with their lab
Trunks inadvertently helped Krillin pull 18. Bro is the ultimate wingman without even trying to be 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Also, all the Z fighters trains for their arrival, giving gero data to make them stronger
True but they are talking about how different they are from present and future not about the rest of the z fighters and there training
Gero didn't know about their Training
Heck he speculated that Goku when going to Namek couldn't have gotten that much stronger due to his Age and something else
It's even more prominent in Abridged where 16 is like a little brother for the two, and reacts when they do bad stuff.
I always thought it was because of Dr Gero. He didn’t get killed by them in this timeline and instead deactivated them before they killed him. My theory was that he worked on them some more to improve them and calm down their violent tendencies so they wouldn’t kill him. It explains why they’re both calmer and far stronger than future 17 and 18
There's also the possibility that Dr gero woke them up early as well.
I also wondered why the ones we see in the main timeline are, and I quote Trunks here, "far stronger than the ones he knows"
More data was able to be collected during the time after Trunks arrival until they show up, since they were training extra hard to be able to beat the androids, but were unknowingly providing more data to make the androids even stronger during that time. Basically the Z fighters played themselves.
Lowkey that is why lapis choose to become a park ranger
Android 16 ‘s impact on the android and cell saga is underrated.
The subtle differences between the two versions is in their cold, arrogant and dominating smiles. The last time Trunks saw them before going back in time was them staring down their noses at him in victory with very intimidating lighting and shading while the first time he sees them in the past/present, they look up their noses with curiosity and without dramatic effects. It is the first hint of how their different selves get to develop in their own way. It’s literally night and day!
Just let 17 be the best Park Ranger he can be.
One little gripe about this video: the Dragon Ball space time continuum operates on the Multiverse theory, so trunks is traveling to an alternate timeline, if it was a butterfly effect, then his own timeline would be affected and he would change history.
I’d say it still applies since he changed the history of said alternate timeline. It might not be his own timeline that he affected, but if not for his interference, the alternate timeline would’ve turned out the exact same as his own, so it still qualifies as a form of the butterfly effect, just not one that directly changes his own fate
No trunks himself stated that he thought that would happen but unfortunately the time travel in dbz doesn't do that instead it creates a whole new timeline and leaves the old one the same as he left it watch the show and you can see the sheer disappointment in his face when he came to terms with that fact
I was thinking the same thing. It wouldn't even be able to be a butterfly effect because it's alternate timelines
@@AniMeLLz Regardless of if the butterfly effect term can apply or not, Trunks meddled with the present timeline and by extension, other alternate timelines to set off a chain of events that led to characters behaving differently
I like the tfs version of just buddying up with 16 and wanting to make him happy lol
16 was an absolute gigachad
I love when DB had amazing writing like this
16's death at Perfect Cell's hand (or rather, foot) provided the spark that ignited Gohan and elevated him to SSJ2. If you view the butterfly effect as having been caused by Trunks' desperation to spare the world of Future Gohan's fate, then it begins with one Gohan's death and ends with another Gohan becoming the most powerful fighter in the universe.
+ krillun give 18 his 'scatter bullet' 😂
thats a simplistic explanation that i didnt even consider
Trunks really introduced the concept of time travel in one arc and it ain’t never been explored again…til Zamasu…but he’s a Kai. He really changed and made a different timeline for present day and we went with it like it was regular. What a Mandela Effect.
Also, they were activated before they were completed in the original timeline The doctor never got to finish their programming
This is why I want to be 16 in the dragon ball world... He is goated... Man's was barely alive for a week and saved the entire world solo
At 42:27 I actually recognize the song he is whistling it’s the intro song of the Andy Griffith show my dad made me watch it with him a lot when I was younger cause it was a show he loved watching when he was young.
Headcannon Also gero deactivated 17 &18. When he did that he reprogrammed them to go after goku & goku alone. This is true because they don’t actually kill anybody in the present time.
Gero did that to prevent them from killing him. But it didn’t work, they still killed himself anyway.
Damn goes to show a good heart will always cause a effect
I miss 16
still satisfying to watch these to get packed up by Trunks when he returned to his timeline
As someone who never seen Dragon Ball Z, I thought this was talking about Android phones when I first saw the title
And then 17 becoming a park ranger to protect rare wild animals from poachers just further solidifies this
I love this! Great job
Thanks!
"So I'm pretty sure that's three androids you've missed, do I hear four?"
*Saiyan prince with a disappointing child* 😂
Boom! Thank you!!! I've been trying to explain this for years😢
I more headcanon that Trunks showing up caused the sensors in the lab to go crazy at his strength, so Gero panicked and made the twins way stronger than in the future timeline, which they are. Because of this, his programming was much more imperfect, and the twins broke his control much faster, as shown when 17 kills him.
Birds. You’re scaring the birds
I like birds
Birds
Finally, this makes SO MUCH sense than what I was heard
16 was the real MVP lmao
Its crazy how future Trunks timeline is the original and the rest of Z and all Super is a split timeline!! Damn the Dragon ball series is amazing!!
the ring industry gonna go crazy because of trunks
Finally! Someone mentioned it!
I think that, in the original future Dr. Gero watched a super saiyan goku fighting with freeza (remember that cell talks abour that little robot), this new power level forced him to continue his experiments with 17 and 18, and that leads to their mental instability.
I like to imagine, way in the back of their programming, the kill goku protocol is still running, so once every like 5 years, they just get an urge to fight him. I dunno why but that's funny to me
16 was a good brother, he also really loved birds.
Man, SpiderMan-2099 would be freaking out rn 😂
Fantastic explanation.
I assume what happened was that:
Since Goku lived the heart virus, I assume that Gero found out he was alive probably due to the little drones that were programmed to gather data for cell. And since they knew he was alive, they attacked instead to try and lure him out probably (Im not 100% sure y they attacked) and fight him. And in this timeline, Gero didnt put 16 away probably due to Goku still being alive. And like he said, 16 changed 17 and 18 because of his love for nature.
Trunks disturbed a canon event
Android 16 was a special character he meant so much to 17 and 18 😮
Trunks messed with the canon events
Trunks saved the multiverse.
I agree. Android 16 was so awesome that he changed the other two Androids.
So I just realized that 16s hair is a mini version of Gokus supersaiyan hair and now I can’t unsee it, kinda representing the Androids version of Goku
Funny thing despite them being more sinister in the future it is implied that 18 still liked Krillin. Seeing as she was upset about him killing the one guy she liked.
"I like you bird"
Trunks is the catalyst to SSJ2 Gohan
There's also the fact he may not have been done with their programming. Their morals may have still been somewhat intact as well, so while killing wasn't completely off the board, there was still a limit on it, like sure they'd be ok with killing a person here or there, but wiping out a city would have crossed a line with them
To further explain this future also time travels to our time 3 years ahead of trunks furthering the butterfly effect
Yea he had a huge influence on them. He basically rejected his programmed purpose to kill Goku in favor of being good.
Basically trunks created a flashpoint
Because later down the series Trunks thought he was going back in time when he really traveled through a different universe. we call him ''Future Trunks'' because that's exactly how Canon world Dragon Ball Trunks will look like. instead of calling FT Alternate universe Trunks. another thing I forgot to mention he back to the ''future'' and mention it was the same. nothing changed.
I know I cried when Goku died in future timeline and was super happy when 17 and 18 became good
so if 16 was never there in our timeline, everything would still be the same as Trunks' future? That makes me love that gentle giant even more
Also Shortking Dick went crazy
what i really took out of this arc is that a race of battle born planet conquerors could be dealt with with a virus
The androids are the true saga
At least there is a reason most media don't bother
Goku brings out the good in villains even indirectly 😂
The android saga all has to do with the red ribbon army still holding grudges from when Goku was a kid 😂
Got to see 16 DBZ super
Calmer but much stronger than their sinister counterparts. That's what trunks said.
I figured it was a "Absolute power absolutely corrupts" situation having no one to challenge them they over power whoever they come across and eventually they start playing god and become truly evil.
As for why they are aparently stronger in this time line, on one hand it seems like they were contained themselves just so that they could have for longer, BUT I also think that after realizing Goku had died, Gero was trying to make them more manageable. He turned down their power output, but they probably broke free and killed 19 and Gero during the process. I also think that the androids that attacked the city were 19 and 20 just like in the altered timeline, but since the Z warriors didn't received a warning, they arrived only after the city had been destroyed. The survivors told them two individuals were the cause of it, information they shared with Bulma, and when they encountered 17 and 18, they assumed they were the same androids.
And this proof why Android 16 is the best.
As Vegeta would say he doesn't give a shit about butterflies he is the hype😂
I would gladly die by 18's hands anyway
she wouldnt dirty her hands on you pleb.
At least he didn’t become his own grandpa
Idc what anyone says, 16 was the goat of the android/cell saga. Especially the TFS version. Rest in Paradise!
My goat 16 ultimately
Helping 17 & 18 save the universe
Love it
Best Explanation is the Future Androids are animated better in those pictures😁
I’ve always wondered why they were different and the answer was literally in my face the whole time lol
I think gero worked on them more as well the present androids are more powerful as well likely made them less aggressive.
I also can't help but wonder if the events in the present caused them to be activated sooner?
In the future, the warriors weren't at Gero"s front door, and events probably played out differently, like either 16 was in a different state or he didn't catch their curiosity in the future version or had some extra modifications affecting their personality
Android 16 is the underrated goat of the cell saga
