The reason future trunks is so popular and seems to have so much potential is because he had to grow up in a future where there was no way out and had to fight very early on in life so he had so much more experience then people give him credit for he had to face the androids by himself in his future and then had to deal with babidi and Dabura by himself and then goku black till he had to go to the past
If I recall trunks didn’t have to fight much in the future gohan did trunks was still being trained and the only fight we see him partake in before coming to the past he doesn’t win it….I’d definitely say gohan Trained him ALOT MORE and future trunks faced more loss but we have no evidence to him fighting more

It’s hard for me to see present timeline Trunks being as ruthless as future trunks since his life has been so much easier. Future trunks was fighting with the rage of the androids/goku black killing everyone he loved. He’s definitely one of my favorites for that attribute though.

Ssj god really suits Future Trunks the most now that i think about it, with it's origins and how the first ssj god came into existence when the last 6 saiyans with righteous hearts poored all thier power and hope into one to create a savior to combat the evil saiyans.

I'd like to point out that in the manga Future Trunks was already a Super Saiyan when Future Gohan started training him as him transforming after Future Gohan's death was something added to The History of Trunks TV special to make his transformation more cinematic! However, the manga version makes more sense as Trunks was able to achieve his Super Saiyan form in relatively peaceful times, yet the anime tries to suggest Future Trunks struggled to achieve it in a timeline as hellish as the one he grew up in (basically I'm saying Future Trunks had plenty of opportunity to become enraged, & while him transforming after Future Gohan's death is more cinematic, it makes it seem like his counterpart has greater potential)! The only way it makes sense is to consider Future Bulma was against Future Trunks fighting due to not wanting to lose him (his training under Future Gohan was done in secret)! However, Future Trunks is shown to be able to fly & is shown fighting in his base form. Thus, it has its flaws! I agree, Trunks has great potential, but I'd say Future Trunks does, too! Also, Future Trunks' Super Saiyan Rage form only exists in the DBS anime continuity, as in the manga he just uses Super Saiyan 2!

The Rage form was a manifestation of losing everyone in his timeline, namely future Gohan. Present Trunks will likely never be able to unlock this ability, unless everyone in the current timeline dies which simply will not happen.
Wish they would at least mention blood types in the series. It would explain so much. Royal blood’s effect on SSJ. Human blood’s effects on SSJ. Reincarnation blood on SSJ. So much potential
I still think that Goten arguably has more potential than Trunks. Plus, using Future Trunks as a scale for isn't a fair comparison because they went through different experiences, and ultimately Future Trunks has more of a drive to get stronger than Present Trunks.

I think Saiyans can turn SS more easily by seeing other Saiyans turn SS. Same applies with channeling God ki in a way. Future Trunks saw that Goku and Vegeta can turn SSB, and he learned to harness some of that when turning SS Rage.

I still like to think rage mode was a consequence of trunks's training with the Kaioshin that gave him God ki, letting him use God ki in super Saiyan form,like what Goku did against Beerus in Battle of Gods. The blue aura is probably a reaction of God ki to his immense rage
The thing is that the rage that future trunks developed came with a great cause, he was the only survivor, and if we talk about the fact that in present timeline he learnt ssj at such a young age then we also have to look at the fact he had a training rival/buddy and his dad to train with, that being said goten was the youngest ssj ever so he has more potential yet he has never been given the spot light, no hate to trunks and this is just my assumption
That “rage form” that trunks achieved was a straight handout. Strictly for the plot. Realistically he should not have been able to even touch goku black in that rose form. As for the potential for the present trunks. Theres a lot of factors that were forgotten here. Future trunks life was completely different and he went through same traumatizing shit. Which is why he is the way he is. While yes the present younger trunks was able to achieve super saiyan at a young age, he will never know what it’s like to live his life in fear and be so pushed back like the future trunks. The majority of of his life were times of peace and there was no need for training. Plus goku vegeta and other z fighters are still alive.
Honestly Present trunks doesn't have the drive or anger to pull it all off. The hardest situation he has had was fighting Buu which was just a game to him the whole time.

The Rage form was a manifestation of losing everyone in his timeline, namely future Gohan. Present Trunks will likely never be able to unlock this ability, unless everyone in the current timeline dies which simply will not happen.

I think beast transformation required your potential to be unlocked by Old Kai.

I think Saiyans can turn SS more easily by seeing other Saiyans turn SS. Same applies with channeling God ki in a way. Future Trunks saw that Goku and Vegeta can turn SSB, and he learned to harness some of that when turning SS Rage.

The thing is that the rage that future trunks developed came with a great cause, he was the only survivor, and if we talk about the fact that in present timeline he learnt ssj at such a young age then we also have to look at the fact he had a training rival/buddy and his dad to train with, that being said goten was the youngest ssj ever so he has more potential yet he has never been given the spot light, no hate to trunks and this is just my assumption

That “rage form” that trunks achieved was a straight handout. Strictly for the plot. Realistically he should not have been able to even touch goku black in that rose form.
As for the potential for the present trunks. Theres a lot of factors that were forgotten here. Future trunks life was completely different and he went through same traumatizing shit. Which is why he is the way he is. While yes the present younger trunks was able to achieve super saiyan at a young age, he will never know what it’s like to live his life in fear and be so pushed back like the future trunks. The majority of of his life were times of peace and there was no need for training. Plus goku vegeta and other z fighters are still alive.
Honestly Present trunks doesn't have the drive or anger to pull it all off. The hardest situation he has had was fighting Buu which was just a game to him the whole time.
