- Patty Griffin sings a mind blowing rendition of this amazing song that she wrote in honor of Martin Luther King. The words can be found here: www.azlyrics.co...
Needs to be played on a good stereo loud to be really appreciated.
Who is listening to her in 2019
She's amazing
I sure as hell am!
Me. 😊
2020
Still listening in 2020... she’s amazing ❤️
She wrote this. This song is the very definition of Faith. Love it.
some people think this is an old classic. they dont realize that Patty herself wrote this song
I get to see her tonight in a room with less than 100 people. Totally blessed.
Totally jealous! I just can't imagine seeing her sing live. You lucky dog, you.
eec0
Let me guess. Anderson Fair in Houston?
I was privileged to see Patty live at a folk festival in Colorado. It rained hard the entire time. I wouldn't have missed a second of it!! Lord, what a talent!!!
I'm Scottish and just getting to know American country music!! This blew me AWAY!! XX
This song paints such a picture of solace and comfort; "The peaceful valley, just over the mountain few come to know. I may never get there." I can just imagine that Martin Luther King would feel so honoured to have such a beautiful song written because of his own words. I truly hope he did find that valley. Such amazing people, i cant fathom the talent.
Full of His Love and so Blessed By His Grace when My Father and My God ask me to come up to His Most High and So Holy Place...and He continues Asking Me To... So Amazing and So Merciful...How Truly Great Is His Salvation, Freely Given to You by His Son My Lord Jesus Christ...Amen and Amen...
When I want to feel closer to the Lord or just cry my eyes out, this is where I will come.
Just out of this world great. Thanks to Patty and the band.
OK...Kree Harrison did a very nice cover of this song...but Patty Griffin wrote the song, has put in the miles, years, sweat & tears and deserves so much more acclaim. She is a true American treasure.
very under rated
I'm from the UK and grew up on Central African, Black American and Caribbean music. My Dad played lots of Otis Redding when I was a kid. Otis has a plaintive, pleading tone to all his songs that utterly captivated my young heart and ears. It's *exactly the same childhood feeling I get with her.
Soul or Folk singer? Never heard of her before today. I had to dig hard to uncover the source of the heavenly voice I heard at the end of a Nurse Jackie episode.
Love Otis Redding
she's a singer-songwriter spanning several genres . Check out her albums. You may have heard covers of some of her other songs.
What a pure pure voice that God gave her. Absolutely beautiful.
@1941caironewyork NO ONE can touch this Patty Griffin version .Others do an admirable job , but as the songwriter and a superb performer, her nuances and pathos brings this song to a new high .
24 people absolutely have no soul. This song never gets old.
What an amazingly clear expression of life, it's hardship & weariness as we await HIS appearing😢
You could hear a pin drop as she sang. Very few artists command that level of respect. Beautiful
I believe you summed it up. Well said!!
God, I love this song. I need to song. This song gives me motivation to live every time I hear it. I don’t know why more people don’t know Patty Griffin but I’m glad I do. And I’ve always wish more people knew Patty Griffin and I wish even more people would right now . do you know how when you’re a kid some people are unforgettable and you always remember who they are Aretha Franklin, Muhammad Ali, Dr. Martin Luther King, Nina, Simone, and so many people that will never be famous because they didn’t want to be. They are teachers people who stood up and remembered people, and demonstrated how they behaved in history to make the world a different place which is where we live now because of them.
Love this song❤touched my heart the words are so real what a great songwriter
Absolutely Beautiful! Period.
Shelia Chambers Agreed.
+Shelia Chambers She is amazing
I have heard a few other renditions of this song, but its Patty who takes me to that mountain...with goose bumps.
I would LOVE to see Patty and Van Morrison do a few songs together, she has such a beautiful voice!
She doesn’t do as well when she ranges out of traditional rock/folk/bluegrass
..and the fact is I didn’t write this for 12 bar blues, albeit I also was not consulted
I just love Patty Griffin. Just about anything she does. She is a unique talent. And this song is the best example of that. So beautiful.
This song helped me heal.Thank you Patty Griffin,I will always be grateful.
October 2020, we will get through this difficult time for the world,
Amazing performance absultly beatiful song
I never heard about Patty Griffin until the other day. I play this often and Loud. What an amazing voice and talent.
I just saw that the Boston Children's choir performed this yesterday at the Memorial service for the victims of the terrorism on Monday. What an exquisite song to capture the hurt and confusion in us all...
I didn’t get to edit any of the things I said before, but what I do believe is that if you listen to this song, you should find inspiration, and Patty Griffin is an amazing artist who may never be known in her time, but she certainly changed my life in my time and I’m glad she’s still alive and I am too. Thank you Patty Griffin. I love you. My brother introduced me to you 25 or six years ago.
I tear up every time I hear this song
How could anyone "dislike" this!!?
I haven't voted a dislike, but I will say that the answer 'could' be the way the song is arranged. I love this song, and I'd never heard it sung by it's writer, and certainly her vision for it CANNOT be wrong...still, I'm just saying that for me, just looking at the words and listening only to the tune, I personally enjoy this song when sung with less emphasis given the musical production and a more singular focus on her sincere style of delivery. Truly, this is fine here; it is lovely. For me, though--I'm just sayin'. Thank you.
She amazes me.
Thank you Patty Griffin ❤
That’s how you command an audience. What a legend ❣️❣️❣️
What a voice. She only needs to sing about 3 words, and I've got goosebumps. That voice... And what command and control she has over it. It's incredible.
I wonder if she gives "herself" goosebumps when she hears herself sing????
I love this song....Gets me through a tough and really lifts my spirit...
My mom died 2 weeks ago today. This song, the lyrics, HER voice has gotten me through some of the worst days I’ve ever had. I feel a warmth, like my mom hugging me, telling me I’ll be ok.❣️❤️
I love this video! Going through some tough times and it brings me some peace!
Patty, your music touches my soul . I love it .
This sing makes you fly over the mountains!
Pure magic.
My niece sang this beautiful heart wrenching song at my son, Dylan's, funeral and she kicked pass! I don't understand how anyone could speak negatively about this talented woman and her contributions to our lives..rock on!
I'm totally addicted to her voice !! I've found this video three days ago and I'm overwhelmed. Can't stop listening to it. Extraordinary performance.
I love patty
I've never heard her before and I absolutely love her....
Where has Patty Griffin been all my life? Heartfelt, real songs with a wonderful voice.
I went up to the mountain
Because you asked me to
Up over the clouds
To where the sky was blue
I could see all around me
Everywhere
I could see all around me
Everywhere
Sometimes I feel like
I've never been nothing but tired
And I'll be walking
Till the day I expire
Sometimes I lay down
No more can I do
But then I go on again
Because you ask me to
Some days I look down
Afraid I will fall
And though the sun shines
I see nothing at all
Then I hear your sweet voice, oh
Oh, come and then go, come and then go
Telling me softly
You love me so
Monika Cutz: At around the 1:25 mark it sure sounds like she says "And I'll be WORKING til the day I expire "--not walking...
Susan Boyle brought me here an glad she did. I love the singer /writer. Well done patty Singing your song, your way.
WOW WOW WOW! Gorgeous flawless voice! And singing it in front of the seat of evil, that takes some balls sister! God bless!
Mikey Mike; She has a beautiful voice. And about where she's singing. My thoughts exactly.
+Stacey Cabral She is singing at an Austin City Limits taping. The back ground is the Austin skyline. What are you two talking about?
+Nobody special My mistake. Thought she was in Washington D.C.
Everyone up on that stage shined. But of course Patty was the brightest light. She has the inherent ability to draw you right into the song. That kind of passion cannot be taught or learned. One is born with it.
doesn't get better than this...
A wonderful tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I had to listen to it today as we pay tribute to him and his amazing life and work.
I love her phrasing! She sings like she talks, no need for high notes and other bells and whistles! I believe every word and not that leaves her throat!
Remember, that sweet voice is there for you too.
I can listen to this over and over again.....she wrote & sings this song flawlessly. She sets the standard & than it's only up from there :)
That is singing! WOW
aahhh, so beautiful...
from the heart. A song we all can relate to..
So proud to know that Patty Griffin is from Maine, my home state.

She blows me everytime I hear her!! AMAZING!
Get the tissues ready. Damn good.
She is just incredible in every way, found her work through the movie Elizabethtown and loved her since. Blessings to her and Robert Plant!
Top class. I've only recently discovered Patty Griffin. A gripping performance by a very talented artist.
Very Good, great, I feel happy
What a beautiful voice I ever heard....
now THAT is talent!
Patty Griffin is such a treasure! Her voice is almost unimaginably beautiful. She's a mighty fine songwriter, too. This is another one smacked out of the ballpark!
Alexis Price...you too!!! lol! Just love the soulfulness.
brought out feelings,i thought i had buried long ago.first time i ever heard her. want to hear more.
i honestly clicked this because i thought it said "up to the mountain peter griffin" and how could you not click that, especially after bird is the word

I'm thankful to 'Haunting of the hill house' for introducing me to this legend. Heavenly day is just heavenly.
Gorgeous presentation!!!!!!!! So beautiful!!!!!!
thiis is one of the best songs ever
hearing her voice makes me cry and believing in God
fascinating woman, fascinating song. Thank YOU very much ♡
She touches our soul
Angel voices
Patty is phenomenal, but I also tip my hat to her backing band here. They absolutely nail tasteful accompaniment that shows Patty's voice to advantage and serves the beautiful song. The whole performance is a paradox -- so well-disciplined and resonant that it soars to freedom.
Saw her a few times. These musicians by far, made up the best band she ever had.
This song is in tribute to Martin Luther King Jr's last speech the day before he was killed.
My favorite singer, brings me to tears often -- tears of joy, tears of sorrow, tears of everything. I've seen her in concert how many times now .... four, I think. I can't wait to make it five, six, seven. Such an under-appreciated talent. Every one of her albums is must-hear, start to finish (well, maybe those few seconds when her parents sing along with her on "Impossible Dream" could be cut, but it's just a few seconds...).
God, she is a beautiful storyteller.
a song like this makes me wish i could sing...brilliant Patty
Grey's Anatomy Brought me here. I had to buy it on Itunes. 💕
How, what .. so beautiful...
xfactor got me ere,,
Thats why i watch it...#
Learn new artists and she is fantastic xx

I could see all around me

The peaceful valley
Just over the mountain
The peaceful valley
Few come to know
I may never get there
Ever in this lifetime
But sooner or later
It's there I will go
Sooner or later
It's there I will go👃
I don't know how I have never heard of this truly awesome lady but I believe she is absolutely one of the very best songwriters and singers that I truly have ever heard and I will be looking for any of her music that I can find totally amazing
