@@Juiceboxbrian I’m not policing it, I just don’t get calling something a genre when it very obviously isn’t that genre - you wouldn’t call shoegaze “garage rock”, so why would you call grunge a different genre?
I need to use that combo more often, I mostly think of chorus as a shimmery clean effect (own a Roland jc40 which is probably why) but forgot how great chorus can sound with a dirt pedal running into it.
You really think ole dude would buy an xotic just for a video short? I guarantee most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two. I was showing someone my rig a few weeks ago and was using a klone and an AM sunface (ge fuzz face). Guy i showed said it sounded just like 80s rock. Point is no one cares and dont be pretentious about guitar pedals and tone.
Another cool trick to do with chorus is to stack a compressor before it, add some reverb and delay to taste. Very dreamy. I also really love running light to medium overdrive into vibrato for kind of a lofi effect.
Mikey been watching your videos for a month now they are soo interesting tbh i always want to play a guitar when i hear your tones but i dont have a guitar (sad face ) but anyways have a great day to anyone who reads this
You should do more of these, but with pedal sounds that are a bit less... Common? I've seen about a Thousand guitarists try to replicate these tones. Show us something special, something harder to find.
I SWEAR TO GARFIELD that I wrote an almost identical riff to the first grunge one, I've said this on another video of yours but the resemblance is impeccable!
The first riff went so fucking hard
what song is it?
@@LRE2457 thats what i wanna know
@@Xchester901 I’ve been searching through all the comments, and attempted to Shazam it. Unfortunately, I think he just wrote it

The first combo sounds so grungy but melodic
Doesn’t sound grungy at all
@@swampshack1018 uh oh we got the grunge police over here

I could hear that tone in many shoegaze songs

My favorite part was when he said “it’s guitaring time” and played guitar all over the place
My favorite part is when he said "Its's pedalin time!" And started to pedal all over the place
My favorite part was when he said "it's mikey'n time!" and mikeyed all over the place
My favourite part was when he said “it’s wahin’ time” and started wahing all over the place
@Bob_b and that paired great with when he said, "It's distortin' time!" And distorted all over the place
My favourite part was when he said "it's time" and proceeded to all over the place
Im madly in loveeeeee with that first combo
Bro I love the first one holy shit, literally beautiful 😭
Same bro
That chorus + distortion sounds like the perfect pedal combo
Very shoegaze
I need to use that combo more often, I mostly think of chorus as a shimmery clean effect (own a Roland jc40 which is probably why) but forgot how great chorus can sound with a dirt pedal running into it.
But at the same time, try running a compressor into chorus with some hall reverb and digital delay for dreamy shoegaze tones.
That jimi tone was so nice
Jimi Hendrix sound was pure golden.
He was hanging out with Frank Zappa and he ended up giving Jimi his first wah pedal, the rest was history ❤️🤘🎸🌌
Dude I have that Fuzz Face, it's amazing

First one is so wonderful
The first combo sounded HEAVENLY ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jm only used the octave pedal like twice on the 2019 tour. He doesn’t use a vox wah either, he uses an XOTIC
Wow, you love to kill all fun, I hope you have a great day. 👍

Ignore the replies your totally right. People for some reason think they have to defend John Mayer to the death 😂
@@marekw7562 Nothing fun about false information
Love these vids man, you’re such an inspiration. Also please do more of these!!!
The first combo was used by Husker Du and Die Kreuzen first - Kurt simply appropriated them and made it a household name.
What song was it
Dude its not appropriation lmao
Another cool trick to do with chorus is to stack a compressor before it, add some reverb and delay to taste. Very dreamy. I also really love running light to medium overdrive into vibrato for kind of a lofi effect.
Beautiful, more combo duos please 🙌
when i saw the notification for this video i thought, “he better mention kurt cobain’s small clone and ds-1” and you did!
You should use a guitar with a bridge position humbucker for Kurt Cobain demos. He put humbuckers in all of his Fenders.
Also Kurt used the distortion above 1 on his DS1! This guys scared of actual distortion, so much so its a meme!
bro was that first song a real song cause i wanna learn that so bad
same
use these 👂👂
It just sounds like everlong
Kinda sounds like silver rocket by sonic youth
What came to my mind was after hours by mr kitty it’s sound exactly like that
This opened my mind up! I really like this distortion petal, but I’ve always loved chorus effects.. gunna try it out :) thank you
Absolutely wonderful tones dude
That last tone is very spot onn
John Mayer is my favorite artist and I’ve noticed that some of them sound like that.
Same here
Good to see jm finding his way on ur channel
LOL..... He uses the pedal as a microphone in the very beginning without noticing he's doing it.... 😆
That Hendrix combo is something else 👌
what about john frusciantes DS2 into ibanez WH10 combo
jimi hendrix tone was simply perfection
Can you next time do Brian May?
70s to First 80s : Treble booster + foxx phaser
80s to Today: Treble booster + chorus
Absolutely nothing like a Boss MT2 all the way up or goin into a tube screamer. Man oh man what a game changer
Love all three, the Jimi Hendrix combo🥇
the face you make when you play guitar looks like the music that you play
Yep, all three, very accurate. Nice video 👌
all ur vids just hit man big fan keep it up!!!

So THAT’S how Kurt played the solo for Smells Like Teen Spirit.
What song were you playing for the Kurt Cobain example?
Voodoo Child by Hendrix is one of my all time faves. Tom Morello’s instrumental cover of it is also fire
yo that first combo is sick as hell
I SWEAR TO GARFIELD that I wrote an almost identical riff to the first grunge one, I've said this on another video of yours but the resemblance is impeccable!
my right ear really enjoyed ur guitar playing
He found a new "quirky" way to pick! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
If you do a part 2 with more than just duos, Kurt Cobain's main pedal setup was a Boss DS2, Sansamp, Electro Harmonix Polychorus, and the Small Clone
Eric Clapton be like "Tch. What's a distortion pedal?" *fully turn on his 25db treble booster in his strat*
Yea clapton fans claim he never uses pedals but has a treble booster in his guitar, a wah and then a whole ass leslie speaker.
Jimi also used a Uni-Vibe with an expression pedal.
That was once he got to the band of gypsys late JHE era. Earlier on as the JHE he first started by just using a fuzz face and wah.
i literally guessed how he’d set the list. “kurt cobain, some dude nobody has ever heard of, and jimi hendrix”
Jimmy knew how to play with best sound years before others
I'm a simple man, I see Kurt Cobain in a music vid, I like the video
"Hog Pog Vox Wah Octave Multiplexer..."
Ts808/Ts9/Ts10 + Vox (Pre owned by Jimi the man Hendrix himself) V847 Wah- That Was Stevie’s pedalboard when he started going places
Tube screamer + Big Muff
"Most notoriously used by John Mayer" was the first time I simultaneously laughed and vomited
I really like to have an overdrive pedal like any overdrive pedal
Can't forget the ts09 + jcb95
We worship the same god.
Nice t-shirt collection !
can you do a video on Clapton’s Cream tone?
I love when you play Hendrix
My favorite part was the chorus and the distortion aka kurt cobain's tone its a legendary combo for me

Hendrix had his wah in front of the fuzzface
I have that Fuzz Face & that same Wah, I've had it since I was little.
Guitarist from our band uses distortion from joyo with vox wah-wah (before that he used boss ds-1 that now I use on bass). His solos kills man.
Kirk hammet called and he wants his wah back
i was expecting intro for voodoo child intro for Hendrix combo

Can you tell us the first riff you did at the beginning with the Distortion DS1 and Small Clone Chorus please? We need to know.

The first combo could be used for goth music omg
Hendrix used the Green fuzz lol
Petition for him to use more distortion

Phase 90 and echoplex delay/booster
Was that a Dan Electro FAB distortion??? If that was oh my gurrrd those are gems

What song was the riff in the grunge tone?
I got a cheap ac30 emulator pedal for 25. Bucks and a brian may red special. And a polaris reverb pedal. Havent touched em in like 6 years sadly.
Unpopular opinion incoming: I like the first one the best
