A close-knit family is so good to see. i know your dad is very proud of you not only because i hear him express it quite often on 970 AM the Joe Piscopo Show. Keep up the good work.
You are a fantastic son. As a guy who also loves his dad very much, I feel you bro. Also the long video style is awesome, you should do these more often!
What a GREAT video. Bringing back the tools to life for any Father is a magic moment for both involved. It could be an old saw or hand drill, a fountain pen, a '66' T-Bird even a hammer, yours was a vintage guitar. For the son, it's a time to understand the complexities that make your Father who he is, what his younger life was about. For the Father it is a the situation that goes beyond words, an extraordinary gift tells the Father "he gets it", "he knows me". And all those years of telling my kids "when I was your age I was..." lets him know you were listening. You gave your Father a gift that goes beyond words, this was defiantly from the heart. Good for you Mike, nice move!!
Being an old guitar player, my youngest knew of a guitar I talked about that I had when I was younger. I unfortunately had to make a swap for a bass because the band I was in had paid gigs and we lost our bass player. 30 years later he ordered that same guitar and gave it to me for my 62nd Birthday. A Custom Shop Fender Sienna Sunburst Stratocaster. Love that Young man
I love the checking on the body. Very subtle for an axe that old. Those old Voxes were something else - I have a more modern one, but it just doesn't compare.
Your Dad sounds alot like mine. My dad never could show alot of emotion but he was always proud of us and loved his family. If your Dad hasn't already "someday" he will tell you what that guitar means. Listen carefully. You may only get one chance at that conversation. It could last 5 secs or 5 hours. Remember this: every time he picks up that guitar he WILL remember his youth and what that guitar meant to him. He will ALWAYS remember what you did for him. 😍🥰😍
What an amazing story. Your idea to bring back your Dad’s memories through that Vox guitar was such a heartwarming story. I actually had that same guitar. I only have photos of me playing it. I would love to have it in my hands again. You’re a great and thoughtful son. Thanks for your story. 🎸
Love this video! You are such a good guitarist and I wish I could be half as good as you. That was a super nice thing you did for your dad. You should 100% make more of these if you want to. have a great rest of your day!
ThisGrowing up my dad played the fiddle in a country western bands .my mother and watched him perform regularly on stage for dances, clubs, bars ,weddings, and even bait houses. But I disappointed him by getting into the hard rock music 70s/80s and never really learned to play any musical instrument. I’m 58 now and this was cool thanks
As far as cleaning the fretboard, you can use a single edged razor blade. Just draw it across the edge of a piece of steel to create a burr. Then use it in a scraping motion fret to fret. You can also use naptha to clean the fretboard and body as well. For taking off the tuner buttons you can sometimes warm up the metal shaft with the soldering iron. The same with putting them on if they're plastic, but you have to be careful though.
A trick for getting tuners on is heating the "male" netal part up with a lighter or something then when you go to slide the tuner on it just melts it. Then when it cools down it sticks. Obviously this only works with meltable materials
I love this style of long video, you should do these more often!
