I'm 6'5", I own a ZR2 and I fit just fine. It has 1” less headroom and 1" more legroom than my 2006 2500HD crew cab that I've put 400k miles on, and I love it!

Listening to the GM engineers talk about the development of their new 4 cyl engine, it makes total sense why they went with this engine. It was built ground up to be a truck engine, specifically designed for trucks and to handle the turbo with durability in mind. I have no problem with it after listening to their design philosophy and goal with this new engine. I'm excited to see how it pans out.

I saw that too, and felt the exact same way. It's a gas engine, built like a diesel engine. Would I have preferred a 3L twin-turbo inline-6? Sure, but it seems to be ok to me, though I haven't towed with it (2024 ZR2) yet.

Man, the ZR2 is a cool trim. I only have a few minor gripes. In my opinion, they could've made the interior a little more sporty/special for ZR2; similar to what Ford does for Raptor. I don't care for the yellow stitching (should've been black or red), and the seats look flat and uncomfortable. Any other small gripes are towards the Bison trim, so I'll leave those out. Great video!

We previously had a 4x4 F250 and it was a perfectly fine beast, but we bought the Colorado to use as our general vehicle that fits in parking garages, tows behind our motorhome and works as a replacement for our Subaru as a daily driver with awd (auto 4x4 but it does the same thing) for rain and snow.
As you noted, for almost anything I actually haul the 5 ft bed is just fine. The back seat is small, but workable and I didn't want to haul around a full sized truck although I did reconsider it when I saw how close the price was for a 1500 sized truck and the Colorado. We ended up buying a low milage used truck and found the used ZR2 wasn't much different in price than work truck so why not???
I have had std cab with 8 ft bed through crew cab with I ft bed over the years and certainly enjoyed driving my various pickups, but the Colorado ZR2 does what I need and is just plain fun to drive even on road.

Have had my Colorado ZR2 for only a few months, but really no complaints to speak of. My preferred digital dash layout keeps reverting back to the factory default, but it’s a minor gripe.

I just got my ZR2 and love it. traded in a 2016 Colorado. My two biggest gripes is 1. the rear seat storage. My old truck when you lifted the seat there was very nice storage compartments. This new one is just an outside shell. You set something in and it falls down to the edge out of site. I am assuming some one after market will make the rest of it that GM stopped making. and of course the MPG. old V6 I averaged around 23. new best is 19. Every new vehicle I have ever gotten always had a MPG improvement over the older truck. I do understand this has more torque for pulling and lets face it more power means more fuel.

If you're over 6'2, no midsize truck is for you, from any manufacturer. As far as bed length, if you're wanting a work truck, no midsize truck is for you. As far as the Turbo Four powerplant, it's proven it's reliability since 2019 in full size GM trucks, makes more power and torque than the 5.3 V8. Finally, if you drive a ZR2, you'll be amazed at the ride and handling on and off road. No other midsize truck can match it at the same price point.

I got one of the last 2022 ZR2's made, right before this model came out. I am 6'4 and the interior feels larger in my '22 than the '23. Must be the sunroof, the wider console, and the thicker doors. I have no issues in mine. Sooo glad I got the last of the 2nd Gen. All new means all new problems.

Nice back seat center armrest, I don't have that in my 2023 Chevy Colorado LT, which is really loaded down with options. I used the remote start for the first time, and as I drove away from home on a bitter cold morning of 9 degrees, I began laughing aloud to myself, I never had seat heaters before. I like selecting the "Vehicle Info" - "Engine" monitoring the electrical charging system and the coolant temperature first thing in the wintery mornings. After driving only six blocks up the street I begin to feet warmth from the heater, that's a fast response. After seven months of owning my new truck (just broke 1000 miles)), I'm still learning about all the goodies I paid for like I have a cabin filter ACDELCO CF1184C located behind the glove compartment. I recently ordered new hood struts (On Amazon ($52), and LED Backup Bulbs (LASFIT T-T15) & LED Front Running/Turn Signal Bulbs (LASFIT T3-7443D) on Amazon. I live near the woods, so backing out of a 150' driveway with LED backups are Nicezzz.

Really can't argue with you Tim, I see the same issues. Getting in the Col/Can is difficult even for me at 5'11". Seems the seat is a long way from the door sill is what I perceived. I want a mid-size purely for cost. The like equipped full-size is easily 20k more. I do wish they offered better options for storage in the back seat. Meaning a fold flat surface. I'm not worried about bed length more about volume. And that can be fixed with a shell if I cared that much. Headlight switch is a non-issue to me.

My 16 Silverado has the 8l90 and I’ve had to take matters into my own hands to save it from killing itself. I just did a 1,000 mile round trip from Iowa to Arkansas with 2 motorcycles in the back of my 5' bed tacoma. No big deal having the tail gate down, just squatted the back down a bit. We have an enclosed trailer, but it's just more to deal with and kills the mpgs. The time I want a bigger bed is when 3 or 4 of us are going hunting/camping for a week and need to take all of our stuff. • @HRCfan17
    @HRCfan17 2 місяці тому +1

I disagree about the bed length. It had a long box option in the previous gen. Make it an option and let the customers decide. Manufacturers would rather make it easier on themselves by only offering one configuration. To say you don’t need it. Get a trailer. That works for you but not for everyone. Can’t compare the quality of that tailgate to your 60s truck. I don’t want to leave my tailgate down while I carry my motorcycle because I also have gear in there so it needs to be closed. That tailgate unlike the 60s tailgate isn’t meant to be down with weight on it while traveling. Also there is no reason they couldn’t have a little more rear legroom if they are only going to offer a small box. Can have a short box or less rear legroom but not both. Having both is a miss no question. I do like the turbo 4 in this size truck. Don’t think it’s an issue. Think MPGs could be better but not a big deal. As far as lights i leave mine in auto in my current truck so I don’t care where the switch gear is personally.

I actually like the colorado zr2 and am thinking of possibly getting the 2024. I only have two gripes and by the way I think the bed is perfect for my needs. But, gripe one. Do wish they could increase mpgs and it would help as a daily driver. Gripe two and it is a small one, wish rear seats folded all the way down or tumbled downward. Creating more rear wall cargo storage. Also more under the rear seats cargo space room. Other than that, zr2 has everything I'd need.

    • @kx8960
      @kx8960 8 місяців тому

I'm probably ordering a 2024 ZR2. What I MIGHT try, is get a small lift and whatever it takes (flares, different wheels/offset) to put 35's on it like the Bison (at 1/2 the cost) and put more streetable tires on the stock wheels to get better mpg. I have a feeling that if you put those kinds of tires on it (like, say, Michelin DEFENDER LTX M/S tires like I have on my RAV4, and air them up to around max pressure, you'd probably gain at least 1 mpg, maybe 2 or more. And, I've run these tires for years, and for all but crazy offroad stuff, they work great. Snow, rain, light mud and dirt roads, they work great. And so I'd keep the other tires for when I wanted to play on a weekend or trip to Moab. Also, the Defenders are cheaper and longer-wearing, so, no sense in eating your offroad tires up just driving on the street where theyr'e not as good performing as the Defenders.

I have a couple complaints about the new ZR2. If you get just the basic model ZR2 with cloth interior, you don’t get a back armrest or map pockets. When in the hell have those been options? And it’s only available with leather interior which jacks the price up even more. The lowest price I can get on a build is $48,685. That’s with black decals and the tailgate decal package. How do people think this well compare to a Gladiator Rubicon Ecodiesel? I have been looking at the Gladiators, but even with the discounts Jeep is running right now, the prices are still a bit ridiculous. A fully loaded ZR2 MSRP is about $5k less than a loaded rubicon thats 22% off MSRP, but the ZR2 is a nicer truck inside. Debating just waiting for the ZR2's to become more available and skip the Jeep.
I sat in the back of a WT yesterday since there are almost none of these on lots still. I am 6' and the back seat was fine after adjusting the front seat for my driving position. I also put my 2 year old's rear facing car seat in the back seat and it was a bit tight, but not impossible.

@@kx8960I test drove one since I made that first post and I actually disagree. I thought the motor in the ZR2 was weak as hell here at higher elevation in Utah. I test drove multiple EcoD gladiators and the ZR2's and the Ecodiesel was WAY stronger. And if you watch the recent TFLTruck videos, it seems to confirm my experience. It seems that Chevy seriously de-rates the Colorado at elevation because it performs no better than the 2.3L Ranger than makes 40hp and 120 ft-lbs less torque on paper.
And TBH, I just generally liked the Gladiator more. The interior was far more spacious and visibility out of the truck far better. The giant hood on the ZR2 means you really need those 360* trail cams and the headroom and leg room in the rear seat is pretty poor. The ZR2 runs 0-60 in 6.9, the Gladiator Ecodiesel (which I originally wanted) does it around 7.3. So, while the ZR2 might FEEL slower because you have to get more into the throttle (I guess to try and save gas), it isn't. It FELT slow to me too at first, until I learned to put the loud pedal down more, then it'll light up the rear tires from a stop. "De-rating at elevation"? Yeaaahh, no. The truck is heavier than the 'Taco, and has bigger, heavier tires. Yes, the back seat sucks, but the ZR2 drives WAY better, on highway and in the dirt, for 90% of the driving you'll ever do, and I'll take that over any small extra articulation with a solid front axle. AND it doesn't have the roof/door/windshield rattles and leaks, being a hardtop. Enjoy your Gladiator, and hopefully you can avoid the "Death Wobble"...

A 6’ bed with a 2’ tall tailgate covers the standard 8’ materials, 10’ kayak with minimal overhang, etc. when the tailgate is down. Probably would fit all dirt bikes, four wheelers, etc. with the tailgate up. They could figure out better, safer ways for ramps to attach or integrate as well.

    Hi Tim.
Ok. Let's sort this out. You asked who needs a longer bed and what is being put in it with the tailgate up?
First: The ZR2 package is the worst choice for hauling. They payload is way too low. So there's that.
As for what am I hauling? 2x4 at 10 feet long; Gutter downspouts; Various PVC piping from 3/4 inch to 4 inch diameter at twelve foot lengths; And a collapsible pole saw. All of these fit through my sliding window in the back .
Why don't I drop the tailgate for extra space? because I have a drop in bedliner with no low tie downs in the bed so there is no good way to secure these items unless the tailgate is up.
Why not use a trailer? Because it's maybe six to ten sticks and I really don't want to deal with the hassle of dragging the 16 foot trailer around and try to park the damn thing in the HD parking lot when all the trailer spots are full.
I think I threw someone in the back cab of my truck once in twelve years. I use that space for tools and tiedowns. For me, a single cab, eight foot midsized truck would be nice.
Oh, and BTW: that shiny gloss plastic on the center console of the ZR2 sucks! Let's put something shiny right where dust and grime is going to gather in a truck designed to go into dusty places!

Thank you for your comment. The main benefit I get from using a smaller truck is the tighter turning radius. This is a bigger deal than you might think given how tight some of the roads are where I work and shop.
A narrower midsized/compact also fits in areas a full size just can't between houses, trees, cement curbing, or plumbing.
I am a landscaper/maintenance person at a retirement community so my jobs change hourly. This means that a shell would absolutely be a horrible idea. I love the open bed for putting in rolls of chainlink fencing, 25 gallon potted palms, and various pool chemicals including chlorine, sulfuric acid, and 50 pound bags of Sodium Bicarbonate. I also have hauled bags of Marl, 40 bags of mulch, and 30 pieces of sod. Side loading is greatly appreciated.

OK i own a 2020 Colorado ZR2 with the v6 gas engine, your telling me that a turbo charged 4cyl. would obviously get better power then a none turbo v6 wow!!! but through different research that I've been doing, putting a supercharger or turbo on the v6 will not only obviously get more power but also get better fuel economy! so why not put a supercharger our turbo on a v6 model? but even thought i love the look of my Colorado i wish i wouldn't have gotten rid of my 2020ranger XLT with the fx4 i feel it had a lot of better fetchers that i liked 1 was the fuel economy was so much better 17-19 in city 23-25 on highway better my Colorado im lucky to get 16-18 highway! that is my biggest hate about my 2020 Colorado ZR2!!!

Yeaaahhh, you MIGHT get better power, but you WILL get worse fuel economy, probably a LOT worse.

I'll hang onto my diesel Gladiator: better off road, larger tires, more clearance, easy to add a winch + you can take the doors & top off. Plus 25mpg.
    Your results may vary -

I am in a gladiator rental at the moment and just looked at brand new dealership ZR2. Gladitor seats are a 10, ZR2 seats are a 2. Seeing over the hood in the Gladiator is a 12 (on a 1-10 scale) and ZR2 is negative 3 on a 1-10 scale. Went to the dealership to order the ZR2, but after comparing the Jeep to the Chevy, I am a hard pass on the Chevy. Not saying I am buying a Gladitor, but rather waiting to see the Ranger Raptor. The hood is so near impossible to see what is in front of you in the ZR2, I "almost" feel like Chevy raised the rear end up trying and get some more road in view, is why the truck is raked so high in the rear. Put a leveling kit on it and your liable to run completely over a new corvette. Was not a fan of the ZR2

Wow, really? Does it matter what somebody will use a bigger bed for???? If that is what someone wants, why criticize them for that?

Criticize or ask the question? I was asking the question.

IMO- driver grab handle, rock slider steps, big notches in seat for rear knee room, power sliding rear window, hood gas shocks not stupid prop rod, cutouts for auxiliary switches, i also hate the stupid organizers under rear seat can’t utilize the floor much once seat is up. Dream would be cheaper price and better mpgs or at least same numbers on regular gas and not premium sh*t is high enough thanks Biden. GM could easily do that crap from the factory.
