I am now at least a decade older than my parents and their friends when they gathered nearly monthly in these 1970s movies to play bridge, eat, and socialize in various ones of their homes. I believe the story is that the group went for some 40 years (perhaps the 1950 to 1990s) without electing officers but having sort of a pattern of deciding where the events would be. I doubt that any of my friends would ever dress up so much for a card party in this era. It always seemed a big deal for the women to prepare and serve unusual and better food than the other women. It would be interesting to have a sociologist see the movies of the card night and point out other observations I may never have thought of. Oh, yes, and the guests, I think mainly the men, smoked.
