if you wanna try out a nuclear reactor then I'd recommend the one with 10 quad rods in the middle. there are designs on the wiki. the only thing is that nuclear reactors aren't 'smart' because they work on redstone. if you power it then it will keep working and the rods will keep decaying even if the energy storage is full. that means your battery buffer would need an energy detector cover or whatever it's called which you set to some energy level before the storage gets full especially if you have other generators connected to that buffer (for example I had a dragon egg producing additional power)
yeah despite having a small internal storage I think battery buffers need at least one battery in them in order to function. afaik they input/output amps depending on the amount of batteries in them so if there are none I assume it means they can input/output 0A at most. btw don't forget that you will probably need fatter cables very soon as for conv belts you probably got 4 from an enchanted bag and no you didn't spend them you still have them if I saw it right

Thanks I’ll look into that reactor setup up. I think it will be fun to set up one too on top of the turbine.
