For the first time ever I have found a UA-cam video where the person just teaches you without the full life story of how they arrived on this planet!! Thank you! Subscribed....hell yeah!!!
maheenshaukat thank you so much for the kind words and for watching 🤙🏻 I always like to do these videos as if I was explaining to my wife for the first time on how to do something 😀
I just bought my first Gopro (6). Watching videos on settings before I head off to Europe in a couple of months.. you're the only one I've subscribed to. Making it simple and informative. Thank you.
Ah thanks so much for the kind words and for watching... I hope you have the most amazing time but moe importantly that you capture some awesome content 😀
I love that this video is on point! No extra info that unnecessary. Recommend this video to people who's impatient like me. Veru easy to understand. Thank you for sharing this.
Hi Alex, I know this tutorial is a little old, but I want to say a big thanks for your easy to understand video tutorial. I've just finally bought a GoPro hero 5 and I am eager to learn how to use it on a regular basis. Looking around UA-cam I came across yours and that was a awesome one. Keep going buddy. Well done.
Thanks so much for sharing. I just bought this GoPro 2weeks ago for a trip I took with my fiancé. Wish I found this video earlier because it's so beginner friendly and makes such a difference. Atleast now we will have better videos/pics in the future. Thanks! 😊
SimplyNik Xoxo you’re welcome 😀 I hope you got some awesome footage though? Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words, I’m glad it can help you in the future 🤙🏻
That's the video I was looking for on UA-cam!!! Thank you very much! I am a photographer and I will start using GoPro Hero6 but I was too upset about its quality. With the settings you showed, I could get a better result. So after that, I edited my footage on VSCO and it was perfect! Thanks, thanks, thanks!!!
tks alex for the tips.....i really appreciate your videos and the way you edit love how you do post-production work ....subscribed yesss saludos mty mex
You are very welcome, I hope they help... Thank you so much for the kind words and the support! I took my foot of a little bit, but I am back on it and hoping to get out loads more videos over the next few weeks!
Simple, nice and precise. One question Alex. How about for the ones with no experience in editing what settings would you recommend (photo and video)? What editing software do you use and which one would you recommend for a beginner easy to use? Your quality of info and your videos deserve more subscribers. I have a GoPro Hero 5 black. Thank you
Thank you so much... I would keep the settings exactly the same, but instead of using flat colour I would use GoPro colour as it will make your footage and images more saturated and vibrant..... I use Premiere Pro and After Effects but for a beginner you could try GoPros Quik software or iMovie if you are on a Mac... Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words!
Jan Hearty Marty it would all depend on your surroundings whether it’s really bright or dark etc.. But on sunny bright days I try to keep my iso min at 100 and max at 200..
Good video. I tried to set the raw format but it won't let me. Says temporarily disabled not supported by current settings. Any idea how to change this?
You’re welcome… Yes I do colour grade when editing.. Shoot in flat mode if you want to colour grade, but if you don’t want to grade when editing then shoot in GoPro Colour 👍🏻
@Prasad Vlogs I actually did do a video on colour grading 😀 There is a video on my channel called 'How to Color Grade for FREE using LUTs | TUTORIAL'.. Hope this helps!
I used to have mine on native but the results for me ended up quite unpredictable sometimes.. I get better results when I keep it on a constant setting... Hope it helps 😀
Thank you for sharing some helpful tips! Do you have any additional tips for skiing videos with the GoPro? Already looking forward to the next video :)
Good job, straightforward and simple for beginners like myself. Only 1 small little thing, the preview of the clips you took would be better to see them in full screen. But even though it was small I'm still going to use it, looking all over for a video like this! +1sub
Thanks fot the comment, and I appreciate your feedback... Next time I will make sure to include full screen for people who will be viewing on a mobile!
i have hero 6 i need help i shoot only on the outdoor while Fishing on the Boat not not not underwater only in the boat and my place is very sunny any adivce ?
Never seen anyone explain the settings in such depth! Thank you so much! It was very helpful. Also, could you make a settings video for nikond5500? Thank you again.
CHILL on thanks so much for the kind words and for watching... I have never shot video on a Nikon but I will see if I can get my hands on one to have a little play.. 😀
Jose Cisterna the higher your iso settings the more grain will appear in your footage, so it’s best to keep it as low as possible to make your footage look cleaner..
On my go pro6 for video the iso min I set to 400 right but on mine it gives me an option for max too right now it’s set to default 1600 what do you recommend on those setting thank you too by the way also why was sharpness on video set to medium not high
winglesschip 209 if it was me I would set the max iso to 400 and min iso to either 100 or 200.. If you have the max iso set to 1600 you will get quite grainy footage in certain situations.. For video I like to add in any sharpness in post so shooting in medium sharpness produces the best results I find.. It’s easy to add in sharpness afterwards but harder to remove sharpness 😀
Thanks Pamela... Cannot believe it’s not out already, it should never be put away 😱 ha I will be doing one of those very soon, hopefully within the next few weeks 😀 xx
Inkieto92 this would mainly depend on where you are using it but if outside and the lighting is good I would set the min at 100 and max at 200... Hope that helps 🤙🏻
Great video! Easy to follow and understand, I noticed that when RAW is activated I am no longer able to access the Linear for Pictures, wondering if it’s caused by the last update..
Thank you... Glad you found it useful! When you select RAW it takes away a lot of the features as shooting in RAW means its completely untouched.. Its really easy to remove the fisheye in Photoshop or Lightroom though 😀
Interesting I never thought about using WB 6000k across my gear. Sometimes I have trouble editing different clips from different cameras because of white balance. I will try your method and see if it's easier. Thanks for the tip!
fourfootsy thank you so much for watching and for your kind words... I’m working on producing way content in 2019! I don’t see why they wouldn’t, I have my hero 7 coming soon so I will be doing a new video on that 😀
Juan Carlos Ong yes I am... if you don’t plan on colour grading then I would keep everything else the same and switch colour to GoPro colour instead of flat..
Sure, this is the one I have www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0728H15LG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519777812&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=polar+pro+50+50&dpPl=1&dpID=41WMO9z2CTL&ref=plSrch
How did you get such good quality after rendering and uploading your go pro video on youtube? Every time when I shoot with my go pro, whatever in 2.7 K or 1080p, the quality that i have on the original video and quality that i have after uploading on youtube is slightly different.
Solzhenitsyn youtube always compresses your video which is really annoying! Depending on what software you use, if you use PP or AE there are settings you can set when exporting to maximise quality for UA-cam!
Alex.... Do you use the same settings for inside and outside video shoots or to you have different setting for each? I shot a slo-mo video inside at a Bike Show this past weekend and had the setting all wrong, super choppy. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Bangn Gears to be honest I try and avoid filming at all indoors apart from the inside of a car.. The only thing I might change is the ev values to 0 and maybe bump the iso to either 400 or 800 but apart from that if I can avoid shooting indoors I do as the results are so choppy and grainy!
It's interesting that you go for high sharpness on photos. I've never tried that. Also never tried setting a manual WB. I will experiment with this! Cool video!
I have tried low, medium and high and got best results at high for some reason! The manual white balance thing I just got into the habit which was mainly for video as I used to get frustrated that going inside would be on the blue side whereas going outside would be on the yellow side so I found setting the WB kept it consistent.. Thank you 😀
Hi Alex. How do you know whether to film at 24 or 30 please? I take it that If I did shoot at 24fps,my comp in premiere would also need to be 24fps.I'm going away next week and just need the basic understanding to get me on the way. Thanks
Hi Paul, I would shoot at 24fps... Especially if uploading to UA-cam use 24fps. Even if you shoot at 30fps you can still use that footage on a 24fps timeline, but I would use 24fps..
Thanks man... Yes the main protune settings will work for you, the only real differences between the 2 besides the size, is the session can't record at some of the frame rates the Hero 5 Black can and the Session isn't as good in low light..
What Alex Did I shoot gopro on the go so it’s also easier to stick in native , if you do go with a particular setting you miss out on some of the picture quality native offers as it applies more processing in camera. Takes more post work to extract the benefits though
So far I have found the quality better when using 6000k vs native... I found there were too many iregularities when using native, so for me using 6000k I got better results... Some people may have better results using native but for me I got better results when using 6000k... I actually found it quicker and easier to grade 6000k vs native, but I guess different surroundings will impact that..
Thanks so much and thanks for watching 😀 Yeah, I still add LUTs when I edit my videos as I tend to add footage from other cameras so using LUTs is a good way to match the colours across other cameras!
I don't bother most of the time as I hardly ever use the GoPro audio as its not that great... 99% of the time I use GoPro footage its used with an audio track over the top so using the GoPro audio isn't really an issue for me!

Kunwar Sood haha thank you, I usually just like to get straight into what it is I am talking about! Thanks man 🤙🏻
😂 😆 love this comment.
Honestly ive probably gone through every video on youtube and you have by far been the most clear and to the point. Thank you so much!

Congratulations for your video. My Gopro 5 doesn't show "SHUTTER" over settings of "PHOTO". Could you help me on this issue? Tks.
Thank you.. Do you have protune enabled?
Dear Alex. I finally found what was going on. I did an update to the camera, and it shows "SHUTTER" now. Sorry bothering you. Tks.
Ah thats great, at least you have the options now :)
Thanks so much for sharing. I just bought this GoPro 2weeks ago for a trip I took with my fiancé. Wish I found this video earlier because it's so beginner friendly and makes such a difference. Atleast now we will have better videos/pics in the future. Thanks! 😊

Thank you so much for taking the time to do these videos, Alex! Looking forward to the editing one!
You’re more than welcome, I just hope people can take something from them 😀 Coming very soon 🤙🏻
can u do this with sj8 pro?
Muns150Fi sorry man I don’t have an sj8 otherwise I would have loved to of done one!
I used to get over 2 hours on 32gb card. Now only 1:24. Still can't figure out what I've done.
Have you started recording in 4k without realising? Im not sure what else you could have done!
You changed your setting fro 24FPS to higher 60 or 90 like on vide. More FPS use more memory.
I just started using a Hero Black 6 and this is helpful, thanks.
Go. Do perfect, glad you found this useful 😀
tks alex for the tips.....i really appreciate your videos and the way you edit love how you do post-production work ....subscribed yesss saludos mty mex

Super informative video here! I had no idea there were so many customisation! I'd of been one of them that just take it out and start using it! x
Ha so many people do that, including my wife before I have to step in and show her how to do it better! X

Good video. I tried to set the raw format but it won't let me. Says temporarily disabled not supported by current settings. Any idea how to change this?
Wonderful much appreciated. After keeping Color setting to Flat in Go Pro did you color grade in editing ? Kindly let me know.
You’re welcome… Yes I do colour grade when editing.. Shoot in flat mode if you want to colour grade, but if you don’t want to grade when editing then shoot in GoPro Colour 👍🏻
@@whatalexdid Thanks for quick reply. Sorry for being lazy and check your all videos but did you make tutorial on color grading ?
@Prasad Vlogs I actually did do a video on colour grading 😀 There is a video on my channel called 'How to Color Grade for FREE using LUTs | TUTORIAL'.. Hope this helps!
I really like your intro, and the quality is amazing!
Thank you so much and thank you for watching 😀
White balance setting seems interesting. I keep mine on native. Will try it using your recommendation. Thanks!
I used to have mine on native but the results for me ended up quite unpredictable sometimes.. I get better results when I keep it on a constant setting... Hope it helps 😀
YOU MADE THE CAMERA WORTH IT, THANKS
You're welcome, thank you for watching and hope this helped 😀
Thank you for sharing some helpful tips! Do you have any additional tips for skiing videos with the GoPro? Already looking forward to the next video :)
You’re very welcome 😀 I think for skiing I would shoot 60fps and just watch the clipping of the highlights against the snow... Have an awesome time 🤙🏻
Can you make a video for Night setting for GoPro 5?
Whose Za I did, check this out for star photos that shows the best settings to use 😀 ua-cam.com/video/FKXXsTIsaoQ/v-deo.html
thanks for sharing, that was real useful. Am hoping to get a go pro in the next few months
You’re welcome, hope it can be of some use.. Hope you manage to get one 😀
Thank you for the informative video, it was very helpful.
You're welcome, glad you found this useful 😀
really creative tips and tricks Alex! 😊😊😊
Thank you for watching 😀
Hi
The videos which you shown in the go pro how you made it slow motion? I am not able to do that with same settings
prashant kumar what frame rate are you filming in? How are you editing the footage?
Took me through all the most important functionality. Thanks!
You're very welcome, thank you for watching 😀

B.7.r.y I would the settings I outline in this video, low iso, low ev, and you will be fine 😀

Terima kasih Mr Alex sangat bermanfaat

Such a helpful video - my hubby has just got a gopro so sending him the link :) x
You’re very welcome... Oh brilliant, hope he finds it useful 😀 x
Thanks for the tips, really appreciate 🙌🙌
Loved This! I'm going to sit my go pro back out now! I'd love a vid on colour grading! Pretty please!! xx
Thanks Pamela... Cannot believe it’s not out already, it should never be put away 😱 ha I will be doing one of those very soon, hopefully within the next few weeks 😀 xx
on my hero 6 i need to set a min iso and max iso. You just did 400. What do i do?

Very helpful. I will give it a try on my GoPro. Thank you

Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching... I hope you found it helpful 😀
woooooah so helpful! we're going to costa rica on the 16th and just bought the same gopro. Thanks for the video and all the information, much needed!
HONG + JULIE glad you found this useful 😀 wow that sounds awesome, hope you have an amazing time... You’re very welcome 🤙🏻
Well definitely be posting a vlog or two :) hope you can check it out 🙌🏼
HONG + JULIE for sure, I look forward to seeing your footage 😀
Just got my very first go pro (hero6) last 3 days. Very helpful video. Thanks!
Roslars glad you found this useful... I want a Hero 6 now!
Interesting I never thought about using WB 6000k across my gear. Sometimes I have trouble editing different clips from different cameras because of white balance. I will try your method and see if it's easier. Thanks for the tip!
Roger Man experiment with the colour temp, 5500-6000 works for me... You’re welcome, I hope it helps 🤙🏻
Is this from only gopro without any program like adobe premiere pro or adobe after effect?
Stylemaxz Maxz the sample video clips were colour graded in premiere pro 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing the settings.
Benny De Guzman you’re welcome, I hope they help 🤙🏻
yes it is :) Thanks Again for sharing it! God Bless
Benny De Guzman happy to help 😀
Great job! Your footage looks awesome! You should have way more viewers! I wonder if those settings would also work on a GoPro Hero 7.
fourfootsy thank you so much for watching and for your kind words... I’m working on producing way content in 2019! I don’t see why they wouldn’t, I have my hero 7 coming soon so I will be doing a new video on that 😀
Great tips... I'll have to try these out when I get a GoPro
Would love to see you incorporate some bts stuff on your photoshoots using one 👌🏻
What settings would you adjust if the weather was over forecast'd; like its cloudy, bright, sun is creeping behind the clouds?
I would keep my ISO around 200 and keep my highlights at -0.5, I might also lock my exposure to stop it from changing all the time!
Thank you, nice video, greetings from Mexico!
Daniel Rejón thank you so much 😀👋🏻
Are you doing color grading on your photos and videos? Cause when i choose flat its very dull
Juan Carlos Ong yes I am... if you don’t plan on colour grading then I would keep everything else the same and switch colour to GoPro colour instead of flat..
Wow..Very helpful video...Thanks alot
Esther you’re welcome I’m glad you found this useful 😀
This is a great video for anyone with a GoPro - even I understood what you were talking about! LOL. I just need to get myself one now :)
Thank you... Haha that sounds like something my wife would say 😂 Ah the fun part 😀
Hi, what software do you edit your videos on please? Thanks!
Stephen Gosling hi Stephen, I use Premiere Pro or After Effects depending on what I’m editing 🤙🏻
This is helpful thanks for sharing I had no idea about these settings.
You’re welcome glad you found it of some use 😀
Hi Alex have followed your settings but for some reason i cant se 60fps in the 1080p resolution any ideas. Thanks
Think i found it i was set to PAL
Glad you managed to figure it out and thanks for watching 😀
2:36 how did you manage to take this Picture, so that one is able to see above and under the Water?
I used a dome accessory which gives the 50/50 shot 🤙🏻
What Alex Did can you send me the Link of it?
Sure, this is the one I have www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0728H15LG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519777812&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=polar+pro+50+50&dpPl=1&dpID=41WMO9z2CTL&ref=plSrch
great! thx for sharing. How did you did that photo of the night/stars? how did you get those white stripes without getting the sun or moon blown out?
Thank you for watching... I was going to be doing a star trails tutorial in the next couple of weeks... It’s quite straight forward 😀
What video editing tool do you use? Great video!
Thank you for watching.. I use Adobe After Effects for video editing and sometimes Premiere Pro 😀
Can you make a video about color grading for gopro?
Tam Nguyen I have already done one about editing GoPro photos ua-cam.com/video/UWGDX6D5oPI/v-deo.html
Thanks!!!
Tam Nguyen you’re welcome 🤙🏻
So helpful to know as Tony and I plan to get one and I really don't have a clue with settings. Learning slowly hehe! x
Ah yes, you should definitely get one, they are so fun 😀 x
Hey! When you guys say "Post" what does that mean. Is that the same as importing .y video and photos onto my PC/Mac using the GoPro studio?
When I say in post it means post production, i.e. when editing!
Thank you sir.
deejaay you’re welcome 😀
thank you so much .. very helpful
You're welcome, glad you found it useful 😀
So if you choose linear there is no raw
Unfortunately so, but there is a workaround in Lightroom/Photoshop you can remove the fisheye look if you shoot in wide RAW..
Great video Alex
Alexander Ferriman thanks man I really appreciate it 🤙🏻
How did you get such good quality after rendering and uploading your go pro video on youtube? Every time when I shoot with my go pro, whatever in 2.7 K or 1080p, the quality that i have on the original video and quality that i have after uploading on youtube is slightly different.
Solzhenitsyn youtube always compresses your video which is really annoying! Depending on what software you use, if you use PP or AE there are settings you can set when exporting to maximise quality for UA-cam!
awesome tips dude thanks....

What Alex Did Thank you Alex. Huge help. As my latest bid was choppy and grainy. I'll do better no. Thanks again.
Bangn Gears you’re very welcome, any time 😀
Bangin' Gears well if your latest video was grainy turning ISO up to 800 isn’t going to help.
Amazing tips for my go pro hero 5! Thank you ^_^
It's interesting that you go for high sharpness on photos. I've never tried that. Also never tried setting a manual WB. I will experiment with this! Cool video!

very useful! Thank you!!
Justin An you’re welcome, thanks for watching 😀
this... is... a damn good video. Thank you.
Really good, clear video. At the minute I only have a GoPro Hero 5 Session, will these settings work for me?
Thanks man... Yes the main protune settings will work for you, the only real differences between the 2 besides the size, is the session can't record at some of the frame rates the Hero 5 Black can and the Session isn't as good in low light..
I always use native for white balance, makes things a lot easier in post!!!
I used to use native but used to get varying results which made grading it so hard... I have much better results setting it a constant white balance..
I actually found it quicker and easier to grade 6000k vs native, but I guess different surroundings will impact that..
What Alex Did I take it you don’t always use 6000k ?
What Alex Did when you pick a constant value it still shifts the cyan magenta mix so you should find you get more consistency when using native
Such a helpful video alex, looking forward to the photoshop tutorial.
You're welcome.. Hopefully get that one out in the next couple of weeks 😀
how come I don't have any of these settings
anyone plz help I think I might have an update or something
What settings is it you don't have?
U color in which program?
For photos I use Camera Raw and Photoshop, for video I use my own LUTs and Lumetri in After Effects and Premiere Pro 😀
Do you plan on a tutorial on editing? You do killer work.
Yes hopefully soon, I will be sharing how I edit my videos... Thank you so much 😀
So what are the best Settings for people that won't be Editing the pics or vids thru A laptop or desktop...??
If you will be doing no editing keep all the settings I mention but change the colour from flat to GoPro colour 🤙🏻
Great Stuff
Thank you for watching 🤙🏻
Video on what editing software you use???
I edit on After Effects 🤙🏻
Very Helpful video!!! I will sure try it out since my latest videos are cinematography and i have a GoPro Hero 5!!
RG Vlogs yes look forward to seeing what you come up with 😀
how do you get those cinematic shots with those settings? do you edit after? bc i tried with those settings and it doesn’t come out slow motion.
Yes exactly that... Using the settings I mention will maximise your possibilities for when it comes to editing 👌
Hi, what editing software do you use?
Kris J I use After Effects and Premiere Pro..
thx for getting to the point!
Himmel you’re welcome 😀
great advise thanks
You’re welcome, thank you for watching 🤙🏻
Thanks so much for your tips!!! Quite Useful ! After u had done all those settings, Do you still use LUT when u edit videos ?
Thanks so much and thanks for watching 😀 Yeah, I still add LUTs when I edit my videos as I tend to add footage from other cameras so using LUTs is a good way to match the colours across other cameras!
thank you
You're welcome, thank you for watching 😀
What do u use for recording audio then?
I don't bother most of the time as I hardly ever use the GoPro audio as its not that great... 99% of the time I use GoPro footage its used with an audio track over the top so using the GoPro audio isn't really an issue for me!
whats name of song at end of the video? .. thanks
Sherif Mosty Jupe - Yikes 🤙🏻
How did you take the scooter photo?
Sabine Bean I had my GoPro mounted on a chest harness then said “GoPro take a photo” 😀
Hello Alex :) Thanks for the nice tutorial. Are you still using WB 6000K? Isn't this setting depending on the light ?
Thank you so much for watching... I actually leave the white balance on all of my cameras set to 5500K and I very rarely adjust it 👍
And what program do you use for post editing?
Jose Cisterna I use Premiere pro and after effects for video and photoshop for my GoPro pics 😀
