RIP Greavsie! what a show Saint and Greavsie was back in the day. What a striker he was 44 goals for England in 57 caps when we didnt play Andorra and San Marino every qualifying campaign
Is this a dig at kane for scoring against them
I mean 10 of those 44 were against Northern Ireland in just 4 games, 3 against Luxembourg in a 9-0 win, 4 against Norway in a 6-1 win etc... Not a knock against either of them they can't decide their opponents, but there's not so much difference.
@HarryKanee Nope not at all. Harry Kane is brilliant. but 44 in 57 is a fantastic record
Also Greaves didnt take penalties but he did take corners.
It's also when teams were basically playing 235. The average number of goals scored was mental.
I was fortunate enough to see Jimmy play in his prime, the best I've ever seen.
What a player...greavsie was bloody awesome..absolute legend..
Two of the greatest English strikers ever

Saints and Greavsie was essential television in my household as a kid growing up in the 80's. RIP Jimmy thanks for the memories.
"Its a funny old game" used to love to watch Saint n Greavsie on a Saturday morning with my dad. The reason i became a Spurs fan! He was an hero in our house..Legend!!

Greavsie is an absolute legend. What a goalscorer he was. Just incredible. (From a Wales fan 🏴) 👍
Greaves saw the future before we did...legend rest in peace
I grew up in the time of Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney, Duncan Edwards, Jackie Milburn and a whole host of great players. I can recall Jimmy Greaves playing for the Chelsea youth team at Highbury and later on watching him at White Hart Lane. I was always filled with trepidation when Jimmy had the ball because there was always a chance he would inevitably score; he was a fantastic player and even though I am Arsenal through and through, I resented the treatment Jim got from Alf Ramsey in the 1966 World Cup. He'll always be one of my favourite footballers of all time along with George Best and Duncan Edwards.
I grew up at the same time as you, so I remember all the terrific players you mention. I too can recall Jimmy in his early days at Chelsea and watched him at White Hart Lane when he transferred from Chelsea to Spurs. What a player he was.
The legend was spot on because he really did it
Greaves, greatest English striker ever. Coming from a Gooner.
him or lineker yeah
World Cup winner 🏆
@@footballshortvideos yeah but he was injured for most of it
Jimmy was a wonderful player and man. RIP legend
Jimmy Greaves was a class act on the pitch, a unique striker also a very intelligent and articulate man. RIP Greavsie..LEGEND.
Greavsie was my boyhood hero. There was a buzz in the stadium every time he got the ball. But I also think Kane has it tougher playing against better defenders. Then again many defenders tried to kick Greaves out of every game.
People might think Alan shearer is the greatest goal scorer in English football and he’s definitely up there but that’s only because the records are going off the premier league which was rebranded from the 1st division in 1992. Jimmy greaves is actually the greatest english football goalscorer of all time with 357 goals in 516 games and a goal to game ratio of 0.69 which is incredible. A lot of the older generation will remember him and know how good he was but for the younger generation this would have been like having Erling Haaland, Harry Kane or Sergio Aguero in your team, a prolific goalscorer who isn’t always remembered as much as some of the other old English players you might know e.g. Sir Bobby Charlton or Bobby Moore, a lot of this could be down to the fact that jimmy greaves didn’t play in the 1966 World Cup final winning team despite being to many the best striker England possessed. Greaves picked up an injury in the group stages against France which led to Sir Geoff Hurst replacing the former in the team. England manager Alf Ramsey stuck with hurst and in the final, despite being fit to play, greaves was left out of the team with hurst keeping his place in the 11. This was a decision that proved to be successful for Ramsey and England as Hurst scored a Hattrick and England beat west Germany 4-2. However part of me wonders how different the legacy of jimmy greaves would have been had he not got injured and kept his place in the team, maybe England would have lost the final? Maybe he would have scored a hattrick like Sir Geoff Hurst? Who knows? But one thing is for certain, Jimmy Greaves is the greatest goal scorer England has ever produced.
Obviously knows what he’s taking about legend!
I wish the owners of Tottenham Hotspur would erect a statue of Greavsie outside the ground. Jimmy, for me, is the greatest player to have played for Spurs. Legend is not a big enough word to describe this man.
He wasn't greater than Dennis Mackay though.
@@CB-xr1eg dave
@@leslillie8180 Huh??
@@CB-xr1eg Dave Mackay. Did his brother Dennis play also?
@@deise5989 Never heard of Dave Mackay, just Dennis who played for Tottenham and then went to Derby to play under Barry Clough.
Greaves is spurs and England’s best ever striker
Jimmy Greaves Scored on his debut for EVERY Club he joined. One of the all time greats and he predicts Harry Kane becoming the lead striker for England. I wonder if he thought Kane would brake his goal scoring record for Spurs
; as Kane has just done?
Go on You Spurs go on Harry Kane
Seriously can you imagine the great Jimmy playing in this day n age! It would just be way too easy for him man! Hat-trick dam near every game! Perfect pitches, light balls, defenders can’t touch you etc
Not to mention the sports science and nutrition!
but in this day n age defenders arent farmers who part like the red sea
Don't be daft. It was easier to score in the 60s.
@@kb5509 Nonsense. Defenders can't even touch you slightly these days.
But would anyone be able to keep him off the booze?
My all time hero and always will be RIP jimmy
Jim knew football alright. Inside and out. Such a loss to not just football but general English culture. A truly humorous gent. RIP Both Saint and Greavsie👍
Absolutely devastating for Greaves that he didn't play in the 1966 final. Of course we won and Geoff Hurst became immortalised. But truth be told, Hurst was nowhere near the level of Greaves. Hurst was a good striker. But not world-class. But fortune favoured him to be at the right place at the right moment and to be fair to him he delivered. But it was hard on Greaves and I don't think he ever got over the disappointment of not playing in the final when he was one of the best - if not *the* best striker this country has ever produced. As for Harry Kane, he still has time to win a trophy his world-class quality deserves. I would love to think it would be at Spurs. But realistically he may have to move and as a Spurs fan I wouldn't blame him. The guy has basically carried us for the last few years. I have nothing but utmost appreciation for him and wish him the best if he does move. (Of course I'd prefer him to stay.)
@@ashleyhyne7027ho told you that? - Hunt played with Hurst or Greaves - Hurst and Greaves never played in the same team - get your facts straight if you are going to correct someone
@@ashleyhyne7027 as I thought - complete hearsay - so even though Greaves and Hurst were both out and out strikers and even though Hunt played with Greaves or Hurst in the 66 World Cup Finals but Hurst and Greaves never played together - forget those facts let’s just pretend that in the final Ramsey’s first choice pick was Hurst and Greaves even though they hadn’t played before in the competition - so it was obviously Hunt that took Greaves place rather than Hurst - what a total load of rubbish
Greatest British player ever. Don’t bother bringing up Best - this guys longevity and pure magic with the ball ate his feet was something 357 league goal is complete unrivalled in England. RIP.

Remember Saturdays early afternoon watching him and Saint. On the saint and greavsie show when I was a kid. Loved that show
Had the pleasure of meeting him many years ago as a spurs fan it was amazing but what a nice chap rip Jimmy
Jimmy looked and sounded so well here. R. I. P legend
Greavsie! What a legend! I was lucky enough as a kid to watch him play against Burnley. It was a magical evening. Spurs won 7-2. Greavsie scored three, I think. Amazing player!
Me too,it seemed he scored every time he played us but always said how good the Clarets were.Cultured team ,i think was his words and he loved Jimmy Mac.
Greaves is a legend, one of the greatest yet most underrated strikers ever
Coming from a man utd fan
Agree he was my idol from my early teens. He scored a goal at White Hart Lane in a 5 nil drubbing of Man United running from just inside Spurs half and drifting past 3 or 4 United players before rounding Uniteds keeper Pat Dunn and scoring. The occasion was Matt Busby's 20 th anniversary of his involvement with United. Busby said Greaves goal was the greatest goal he'd seen in his 20yrs with Man U. SAY NO MORE
Rest in Peace Guv’na!
Saw Jimmy in his pomp playing for Chelsea youths.
Chelsea legend Frank Blunstone always used to say he could never work out if Jimmy was right or left footed! Absolute genius never be another like him!
Lucky enough to see the master play against Olympic Lyon in a Cup Winners Cup evening game in1967........he was my hero in those days. I think he scored 2 goals. Staying in a Tottenham Court Road hotel on a weeks school trip me and the lads thought Spur's ground couldn't be far away, could it? It was miles! Don't know how we got there and back but it was so worth it to see a true legend. R.I.P.Jimmy
I played against Jimmy when I was in Junior School, we both went to different schools in Dagenham. Fantastic player.
Very perceptive Jimmy there regarding Kane.
Jimmy was simply the greatest English goal scorer ever, he had no peers.
I saw most of Jimmy Greaves games for Spurs. He wasn’t one of the best strikers in English football. He WAS the best without a shadow of doubt
True Legend Jimmy Greaves.
Salt of the earth. Legend, and hero. Rip Jimmy
Great sees great.
At Spurs Greaves had great players around him. I saw him play for Chelsea who generally were a struggling side and he was a goal machine
Spot on
Love Jimmy. He is all I love about Spurs.
Jimmy what a striker you were true legend rip Jim
Ali Gold in his latest vlog said "the late great Jimmy Greaves actually said to the family if there's anyone I'd like to beat my record it’s Harry.” That means a lot to me.
The question people always ask me is, who's the best , Greaves or Kane? As a lifelong Spurs fan my answer is this. Kane is a footballer who scores goals, Greaves was a goalscorer. Bill Nicholson didn't expect Greaves to come back into midfield to try to win the ball, he was paid to score goals -and he was the best there was at it. Does that answer the question?
RIP Greavsie
Legend!

From a Manchester United fan, I loved Jimmy Greaves, wish he received appropriate recognition. One cannot make a comparison with Jimmy and Shearer or Kane. Try and play a match today at Scunthorpes home ground with the ball and boots they played in back then.
What a goalscorer Greaves was. Kane is wonderful but I always preferred watching Jimmy. I suppose that he was palying in a much better team at the time back in the 60s.
MY FIRST FOOTBALL HERO JIMMY GREAVES! REST IN PEACE.
He said it’s not like we have Suarez or Aguero. That’s an honest man right there

Being a Spurs fan, l am not biased. BUT Jimmy Greaves was the best goal poacher this country ever had. Don’t forget in those days, they wore hob nail boots. Now days they wear so called trainers, or as good as with this light ball.
Greaves played when pitches were mudheaps and defenders were hatchet men, it was much harder then!
Legend on the pitch and in the TV studios. Not many do that . Definitely not Lineker anyway
Funny auld game , part of a nations life for many years alongside Ian st John.
If it weren’t for JIMMY GREAVES I would not have been a football fan or,a SPURS fan. Love JIMMY GREAVES love SPURS

Beautiful man! YNWA
Greaves had 25% of his actual goals chalked off for offside simply because he was the quickest thing over ten yards and no lino could attempt to he in line so they just assumed he must have gone early.
The greatest natural goal scorer of all time

From a gooner. Greavsie is a legend 🙌
Miss you Greavsie !
I still remember when Greavesie was the leading scorer in the top division - seemed like year in, year out. He achieved it 6 times and no-one has done that since! Could have been more if he hadn't played in Italy.
God bless you jimmy if you would have played now you would have cost a fortune to sign you were one of the best
He’s doing you proud Jimmy!
Jimmy must feel proud that someone like Kane has surprisingly gotten past him as Tottenham Hotspurs Top Scorer
I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but can you imagine how many goals we may have beat Germany in the 1966 final with Greavsie in the side !!
Top man Jimmy.

I must admit,at first I didn't buy into Harry Kane being anything more than a one season wonder nut he has continued to score a high number of goals consistently over many seasons whilst also developing his game as Jimmy Greaves suggested as striker should do in this very video.
Jimmy and Harry both excellent footballers.
Proper GOAT
How cool is that ? prescience. Nice one Greavsie !!
Conte should listen to this. “You can’t play the same way all the time”. Wise words Greavsie!
Judging by his tone, he never thought he’d beat his record one day.
I mean Kane is a pretty basic footballer. It was hard to tell
Lol
He isnt close to it..... just his record at spurs which is over 100 shy of his total tally
Greaves was clearly smart. You don’t start calling a player world class after a few good performances, like some people do.
