Interesting device. Good camera and speakers. Like the 3x2 screen aspect ratio for this size unit. This will be good so long as the mosules one can add to this are sold at reasonable prices. Great review.
afaik the modules are using standard protocols, so you basically can print one yourself on a 3d printer as far as the casing goes. there's stuff on the internet about diy modules for framework. so yeah, it's not a means for them to milk the users, it was done with only modularity in mind
I love the interchangeability of the different modules on the Framework Laptop 13 (AMD) and how easy it is to take apart! It is certainly something not seen before and very welcomed. I am also impressed by the display, the quality of the 1080p webcam which is excellent as well as the audio quality. The long battery life is also impressive. The quality of the audio speakers is also quite good. As this seems like a first generation laptop, it would be interesting to see what the company has in store for the future. All and all, a very interesting and unique product from a company that’s willing to offer something that could have a lot of potential! Thank you Andrew for all that you do!! 👍😁
This is the *4th iteration of the product, 1st iteration with AMD specifically. Had 11th, 12, 13th gen Intels prior. *Not counting the Framework Chromebook
I have been researching like a mad man this past week on the Framework 13…This is the best review of the Framework 13 I have seen yet. I 100% am ordering one soon. Thanks and great work!
Is it just a coincidence that the initial of the guy reviewing this is A.M.D? 😝 . Solid review man, I must say this feels really nice to use for a product designed to be easily serviceable!
Thanks! Our current pre-order batch for the AMD-powered Framework Laptop 13 ships in December. We're making our way through the pre-order backlog as quickly as possible with increased production capacity.
@@fdtk Yeah I would say it is my #1 complaint with most windows laptops beyond anything else. I can't go back to another touchpad now no matter the other features.
As much as I love what Framework is doing and fully support them, I won't be buying this 13 inch laptop... That's because I preordered the 16 inch model! I'm currently in batch 1 (so I'll get it this year), and I can't wait to get my unit!
Great review and I have been following Framework for some time now and I really want to get one of these. Looks like performance is comparable to my Steamdeck... :)
I agree with everything you reviewed, except the speakers - they are horrible. Period. Also, frameworks customer service IS great, however they still have some issues with one off issues. My microphone has never worked since day 1, and CS couldn't figure out how to fix the issue. Wish they would have offered me to send unit in and just make it work. Great review; I want an AMD upgrade!!
Id definitely rock that. Only real problem is you can just about get two laptops over the course of years for the price of a framework and then an upgrade.
My current favourite laptop maker, I sadly already have a laptop but looking forward to buying this in the future, curious to see the upgrades they make along the way!
I don't like those ports all that much. They cost quite a lot and there is only 4 of them. For comparison my ThinkPad has 6 ports (+ AUX). It's better to have all always available than to have to switch. I think they should build-in all the basic ports (USB-c, USB-A, HDMI, ethernet, AUX) and then have just two expansion slots.
I have a 12th gen and in my experience being able to MOVE the ports around is worth its weight in gold.... I can literally always get it configured how I need it. Is the charger in the way of my mouse right now? Just move it... monitor is on the other side at this desk... move it. It's freaking liberating. I didn't think much of it before I got the machine but I'm so spoiled now.
I used to own Thinkaps TXs, X1s adn HP Folio and Elitebook notebooks - in general the Framwork is on par in built quality and design - the Lenovo and HPs all had their little flaws here and there. So if u want a really good AMD notebook here are the Pros of the FW AMD: very good battery time - especially for the resolution HP and Lenovo only beat the FW because they only power a 1080p! quite as fan is almost always off goof performance pretty good screen with 400nits AND 2200x1500 resolution good keyboard MODULAR PORTS! - unbeatable at the moment cons: Audio is subpar - its ok though a tad on the heavy side - 50g off would be nice if the fan turns on its rather loud - but it turned on only twice in 8 days soooo..well... not somuch of an issue
Maybe Lenovo, given they're commiting to more repairable devices by 2025 or so. However, given how unremarkable recent Dell laptops have been, I can't say I think Dell will do it.
Thanks for the review. I am in the market for a new laptop and was checking out Asus's zenbooks but this framework modularity seems nice too. Wondering what do you think about zenbook vs framework?
Hello! would it be possible if you do the review for the lenovo thinkpad p16s? I would really be greatful. Thanks a lot for your informative videos. Love them
I think that the Framework pretty much blows away any "ordinary" laptop options in the modern market. Why would I buy something with soldered-in memory and an inadequate port selection when I could get something that's probably cheaper but comes with all the customization and upgrade potential? The only machines I can see beating Framework (in its current form) are the ones that have an advantage in the display (whether that be OLED or higher resolution and refresh rate or just a touchscreen if you want it; this would probably be an easy fix for Framework in the future but so far they only have two screen options as far as I can tell for matte vs glossy), or the machines that do something unique with their form factor like the dual-screens we're starting to see and the game controls in some GPD devices. Oh, or if you want a 2-in-1, since I don't think the current Framework allows for more than 180 degrees of hinge. I feel like a screen swap would be relatively easy to install in an existing chassis, so Framework will probably be putting those out soon. Likewise, I'm sure they'll have the new generation of processors soonish. I *hope* we'll see Framework putting out a chassis that allows for a 360 hinge, or even a model where you can swap the keyboard and trackpad for a second screen, but those seem like a distant future thing.
Primary things slowing down Windows and Linux side and helping Apple are Windows, Intel and partly AMD. Apple knows when to innovate and when to run business. These guys only want business but not innovation. This goes to show how innovative Framework is. If above guys did their good job, modularity would still exist in its best state.
Please check out the HP Pavilion Plus 14 (Ryzen 7 7840U). It has an even better display (48-120Hz) OLED and an even larger battery! Also cheaper than the Framework.
Not bad considering you could opt for a really good screen, cpu and ram config. Later on purchase a GPU module. Depending on your lifestyle I guess. I just bought a Lenovo at a $200 additional discount through my job for my wife for the Legion 5 Pro w.Ryzen 7745HX/4070 combo with a 1600p - 500NIT screen for $1399 and it'll probably last her 4-5 years. So I could see the logic in something like this. But I wouldn't wait too long in at least getting the full configuration of what I want, because you never know with these startups and how long they'll be around.
It has the same score as the Dragonfly G3, if I have to choose between them, I'd take the Dragonfly which I have for three months now despite the Framework 13 performance and flexibility because it looks ugly like one of these Chinese inexpensive cars I've seen recently.
This laptop is such a breath of fresh air after hearing of apple charging 1600 for a 8gb ram 512gb storage for a base MacBook book pro
Man I am really contemplating picking one of these up. Looks so cool and I love that it's customizable, repairable, and unique.
I hope Framework also have Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite versions. It would be great to compare Intel, AMD and Qualcomm on the same chassis.
My wife has an 11th gen framework. We love it. Just ordered amd for myself. Very excited.
damn !! I love this modular design laptop !! will definitely get one !!
A truly high-quality review of this laptop

6:05 BOOM! That port doesn't support display output, the other 3 do. 😂
Thank you. Been waiting for this one.
9:15 - Definitely like having the shutter switch.
I 💖how framework is now. 👌👍 I would love to see this come to India.
I know it's a review unit but I wanted to comment about how great it is to see it all in non dyed cardboard, for minimal environmental impact.
Is it just a coincidence that the initial of the guy reviewing this is A.M.D? 😝 . Solid review man, I must say this feels really nice to use for a product designed to be easily serviceable!
Awesome review! Thanks for sharing your experience.
They're great laptops and I really admire what the company is trying to do. Too bad availability of the AMD variant is so minimal.

Nice!!
I initially ordered one of them but, due to the very limited availability, I dropped the order. Hope to get one of these in the near future.
Camera and microphone quality are really nice.

Waiting on Framework
@@andrewmarcdavid Do u know why framework is not sending review units to youtubers?
I like that you could put USB-C on the right side
that was physically painful to watch when you ripped that poor ribbon cable out
Thanks. Good review.
I'd get one in a heartbeat if the screen had a high refresh rate, and was a bit brighter.
@zaidkidwai7831 Me too! The upgradable screen gives me hope tho
Video and audio look and sound good. Wish it had IR for Windows Hello face recognition!
Hope Lenovo and Dell will make something like this customizable laptop and ultrabook as well
Would be awesome

Also, Dell's recent XPS laptops are not just unremarkable, but they're often also unrepairable.
And I was right. Dell really kicked upgradability to the curb in 2024...
Great review. 2:08 a USB-A or USB-C (like MacBook) port in the charger would have been better.
Thanks for the review. I am in the market for a new laptop and was checking out Asus's zenbooks but this framework modularity seems nice too. Wondering what do you think about zenbook vs framework?
That is awesome, is it possible change the keyboard with the normal arrow keys?

My biggest disappointment is stock display to 60 fps and no OLED option's with VVR with 10 bit color depth.
Camera quality looks awesome to me.
I would get one of those if I could afford it but it just under 2,000 for the 16 inch one so expensive 😊
Great video
But is it necessary to buy the extension card while I choose already 1TB of integrated memory ??
It depends on how much storage you need
How is the linux compatibility?
For students aged 15-17 do you recommend Microsoft Surface Pro 9 or Apple Macbook Air M2 - This would be for High School.
They are both way too much for just researching & browsing in high school
But, you should go with the Mac
Any reviews on 7640u?
You call the charger connection Mickey Mouse. I know it really looks like a Mickey Mouse, but I still find that funny.

For a minute I thought Howard Stern was reviewing tech now!
any chance i can get one in asia?
anyone knows how well this computers work with linux?
Very well, as long as you use a newer kernel; some distros like Linux Mint will not boot unless you use the Edge ISO.
Given the quantity of 7840 mini PCs, I think AMD produced quite a bit of those 7840s amazing
Imagine Lenovo Thinkpad would deliver the chassis.

Those screen bezels though...
How is the HP Pavilion Plus 14 compare to this? The Framework looks flimsy, giving off a cheap vibe.
