Words cannot express how much I love this idea. I love weapons that give mobility, like the knockback overclock for Scout's shotgun in DRG that lets you fly all over the cave. I will be following with great interest.
There's something so absolutely timeless about Quake's movement code. It's genuinely impressive how well it holds; there's a reason why almost every movement shooter worth it's salt forks it directly. Although, I don't recognize that hammer weapon. Must be something from one of the mission packs, I presume? Or is it just plain custom?
It's custom. The one in the mission pack looks more like a battle-hammer rather than a construction worker tool, and is geared less toward movement and more toward electro-gibbing things
I don't think I've struggled this much with a Quake map since I first played the game years ago, but damn is it gonna be worth learning how to effectively wield this hammer

i feel like this is completely missing the point of rocket jumping. you are not just looking at a wall then firing a rocket, you need to also consider 1) your own momentum, 2) the radius of the explosion (the blast force), 3) the impact angle of the explosion (where you aim the rocket), and 4) the travel time of the rocket. with a short hitscan 1) is half missing (only horizontal momentum matters), 2) and 3) are both holding the attack (for both the walls and mid-air), and 4) is non existent. needs something more, at least one extra gimmick
I'd also like to say this looks easier / more accessible than rocket jumping even though I agree that rocket jumping is more interesting. I see these jump maps occupying more of a separate space
Pretty one-dimensional compared to rocket jumping in TF2, because you can't do sync jumps and what not. That's why nobody ever made a melee for movement like this, because it's unneeded.

Most other source ports can also be installed in this way.
