Couple of easter eggs I don't know if many people know. When this was made, Arnold Schwarzenegger was actually the governor of California, so the Humvee saying "Lightning McQueen must be found at all costs" was a nod to that. And at the start of the final race, they are talking about everything shutting down to watch, and show a sign that say the City of Emeryville is closed. Emeryville CA is a city in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is where the Pixar studios are located.
I think one of the coolest things in this movie is that the director and artists traveled Route 66 to get ideas on how to design Radiator Springs. Most of the buildings were directly inspired by famous landmarks. I personally didn't care for Cars 2, but Cars 3 was okay. None of them compare to Cars though. Voice of Bing Bong from Inside Out green van at 18:31. Sally is the same voice actor as Dolly in Toy Story 3/4 & the spider in A Bug's Life. She was the purple-haired toy that lead at Bonnie's. I love how Pixar uses so many previously used VAs.
@@star_stark99 Yeah, that's why I didn't list him, because his voice has been used a ton. He is also the construction worker that meets Carl in UP that gets the leaf blower on his face lol
This film marked: Pixar's 20th anniversary, the last film Joe Ranft worked, the last movie on VHS, the last movie to use the filmreel bumper, the last THX certified Pixar movie, the first film i saw in theaters and the film that came out after Disney's complete acquisition of Pixar.
The CARS Land (which is actually a giant recreation of Radioator Springs) at California Adventure in LA is actually one of the most genius things Disney has done. Every night at sunset they do a "lighting ceremony" where they play the song and turn on the neon as well. It's super fun, and everyone gets into it and dances.
Life is a Highway would play on the disney channel, like a music/ promo video by rascal flatts for this movie, alll the time i remember it so vividly, it definitely was my favorite song for a minute there😭
This is a sweet movie, but the second you start asking about the logistics of this world you will find yourself in a hellish landscape filled with mutants and monsters.
I love these kinds of Movies. Arrogant MC gets stuck in a small town and gets their sense of priorities back. Doc Holiday with Michael J. Fox is a classic one.
Oh man, I loved watching your reaction to this one. I feel like the other movies in the Cars series make this one get overshadowed, but this one is just so deeply wholesome and a storyline not often explored especially in "kids" media. I think especially as an adult it really hits a personal spot in the age of the "hustle" culture. Your reactions are always an enjoyable watch, and you really make it easy to forget troubles and just enjoy some media for the entertainment it's meant to be. I'm dealing with some health issues and I really appreciate the distraction. Keep up the great work and take care!
For high school graduates in some schools get to go to Disneyland and California Adventure for a night until like 1AM with all the lights and they made Flo's gas station into a dance club for the night and then the full size replicas would drive out and take pictures. It was a really cool experience
Fun fact here about Lightning. His real name is Montgomery McQueen. He got the name Lightning due to his unbelievable speed while in the racing academy. Also, Lightning is still classed as a rookie because of the yellow stripe on his rear bumper. All rookie racers in NASCAR have this to signify their status as rookies. Side note: this is still my favorite Pixar movie of all.
Ah, the Maturing Trilogy. Learning when 'best' course isn't always a popular one. Knowing responsibility for yourself and those around you. Accepting that growth isn't always about age.
You’re my absolute favorite movie reviewer, Oscar! I always feel like I end up laughing and crying along with you during each film. You consistently give such insightful commentary, and this time was no exception! I love cars, so I was really excited to watch this one. Lightning’s character arc and the relationships he develops with the residents of radiator springs were truly so well done. 😌
If you have plans to watch the rest of the Cars franchise, I will warn you that Cars 2 is a movie you’ll either love or despise. There is no in-between.
Yeah. Just go straight from Cars to Cars 3. You’ll miss nothing, it’s the true sequel. Cars 2 is still the only Pixar movie I haven’t seen. And have no interest to
I thought the 2nd one was fine. It's just a "for fun" kind of sequel though, so don't take it too seriously. You really could skip it if you want, as it doesn't really further any plot line throughout the 3 movies. Cars 3 is definitely worth checking out, though!
Cars 2 really should be called Mater’s Tall Tales: The Movie. Which is great if you’re like me, and you grew up with Mater’s Tall Tales. But if you go in expecting another tribute to NASCAR like the first and third ones, you’ll likely be disappointed
One of the few movies where I prefer the German synchro over the original because in German, the King is spoken by Niki Lauder a former Austrian Formular 1 driver and a great, great person 🇦🇹🤍
And Mater/Hook is voiced by Reinhard Brock, who sounds really fitting too, and voiced others like Suley in Monsters inc and Pacha in the emperors new groove. I normally watch Movies in the Original language, but I can't resist the german version of cars :D
22:17 “I wonder what happened to him when he was younger that makes him so hellbent on just winning all the time” - to answer this question with my own opinion… watch Taladega Nights… unrelated but, somehow related lol
Fun Fact: In the German dubbing, for example, Daniel Brühl voices Lightning McQueen and the King is voiced by Niki Lauda, who was one of the most successful Formula 1 racing drivers of his time. The former German Formula 1 racing driver Michael Schumacher also lent his voice to the Ferrari in Luigi's workshop in both the German and English dubbing.
Just yesterday I checked your playlist 3 TIMES, SURE that CARS HAD to be on there, there was no way you'd seen all the others and not this yet, now here it is! Yay!
Hi Oscar! I’ve been watching your reaction videos for a while now and I’m a huge fan. As someone who normally doesn’t like watching people’s reactions to things, somehow your channel hits differently. You just seem like such a genuine, positive person and the amount of insight and thought you give to every thing you watch is a nice change from all the other hustle and bustle on UA-cam. Since hearing you were Christian, (I am too) I thought I’d recommend the show The Chosen, which has been my favorite show for a really long time. It’s the first multi season show on the life of Christ. It really brings the bible stories to life and each episode is really well made, written and acted, and has tons of emotional moments and some jokes too. I first found your channel through the Avatar the Last Airbender reactions vids you posted, which I really enjoyed (also the Prince of Egypt and all the Toy Story ones)!! Anyway, I’d love to see your reaction to The Chosen. It would really make my day. Oof, that was a huge comment 😂😂 Thanks for all you bring to UA-cam and God bless!
I’ve always wondered how this movie was pitched. “Okay, hear me out. Imagine Doc Hollywood, small town nostalgia, learning to appreciate life, romance… BUT instead of a hot shot plastic surgeon he’s actually a car. Like an autonomous car with a tongue and everything. In fact, everyone is a car. The whole world is cars!” So wild lmao
Doc Hudson was voiced by the legendary Paul Newman. He was an incredible actor, director, producer, philanthropist, race car driver, and yes, the person that started "Newman's Own" brand of foods. Newman's Own still donates all of its after tax profits to charity supporting child focused programs. If you want to see him in his prime, check out "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "The Sting".
Thanks to this movie, interest in Historical Route 66 was finally returned to the mainstream. Restoration of major sections of Route 66 has begun through crowdsourcing and fundraising. Today, 80% of the original route can be driven, with the remaining 20% being looked at. Communities once declared ghost towns are coming back to life. It is amazing what one movie can do
2:36 BOI HECK NO they aren't! I ain't an expert on NASCAR racing and rules, but intentionally side swiping a car like Chick Hicks does here would get you IMMEDIATELY disqualified if I'm not mistaken.
Based on how it’s portrayed in the movie, it looks like everything Chick does is technically legal but considered very poor sportsmanship. But the NASCAR rules in the Cars universe don’t necessarily line up with NASCAR rules in real life
Eeeeeh for a while it technically was as long as you made it look unintentional (thats what separated good drivers from bad) but post 2010 they started cracking down on what made NASCAR , well NASCAR, the wrecks ,the fights and such and ruining it , because as long as you did it and nobody got seriously hurt (i.e barely more than a bruised Ego or budget) then it was ok (and doing it so no one got hurt was also a separation between good and bad) So while some of what Chick did was barely legal ,most of it was outright illegal (all of it is illegal in todays standards )
As a girl who grew up in the country next to her grandparents' farm, yes, combines do have the potential to do damage to a car if they drive over it. However, that would only really happen if the other vehicle is standing still as combines have a max speed of around 30 kilometers per hour. As for the song "Life is a Highway," fun fact: Rascal Flatts are not the original artist; the original was done by Tom Cochrane in 1991. It was one of my favourite songs on the radio when I was growing up. Great reaction as always, and I look forward to whatever else is coming up. :)
I love in Cars 3 when they pay tribute to the North Wilkesboro Speedway. I grew up about 30 minutes from there. That was back when stock car racing was especially dangerous. Made for a super fun time when I was a kid.
Btw fun fact doc Hudson is based Of the real life racer Marshall teague Aka the 1951 to 1954 Fabulous Hudson hornet The car topped out at 108 mph Having a good reliable 6 cylinder or inline 6 engine About 215 horsepower stock which was high in the 50s
I used to watch this movie religiously as a child when I was growing up, back when I didn’t even really know what NASCAR was. Nowadays I’m a HUGE NASCAR fan (possibly because of Cars, I suppose) and feel like I have a pretty extensive knowledge on the sport, so watching this movie back these days and noticing all the little references and odes to real NASCAR, as well as all the voice-acting cameos from actual NASCAR personalities like Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Mario Andretti etc that I was oblivious to as a child is absolutely fascinating 🤣
1:40 I missed this the first time watching. The car that "The King" is modeled off of is the same car the the IRL Richard Petty aka The King. The 1970's Plymouth superbird with it's very iconic super big spoiler.
Awww!! I am so insanely happy you liked this one! Cars gets kind of disregarded by some Pixar fans, but genuinely, it’s one of my absolute favorites. And I even liked the 2nd one, so I hope you enjoy it too when you get around to it.
41:55 - Best for *EVERYONE!* Doc calling the press did Lightning a favor. Lightning's entire life and purpose was focused on racing, and for him to miss out on that opportunity would have left him always wondering what could have been. And he would have also missed the learning experience to realize there are other more important things than racing.
He did the wrong thing; that happened to produce a positive result in the end. Everything worked out well but it was still wrong. Also just to add to it, he didn’t make that choice to help Lightning, he was motivated to get rid of him and spare himself the pain of having a reminder of what happened to him rolling around. I’m just saying this because sometimes people confuse the choices they make with results and then repeat poor choices they’ve made because of a positive but lucky outcome. Obviously Doc though learnt what he did was wrong and made up for it.
@@thecocoacouch - I don't disagree with anything you said, and as it is left rather ambiguous, I choose to believe Doc (with regrets of what he missed out on) wanted to make sure Lightning didn't miss his chance.
I don't watch every Cocoa Couch video, discovered the channel watching the Friends reactions, but he's one of the few people I actually like on UA-cam, he seems fun to be around.
9:10 A good way to see lots of different landscapes by driving through America is to throw a dart at the map and fly out to the closest airport where your dart hit, rent a car and drive home. Stay away from the interstates as much as possible stopping at the attractions along the way.
The was considered a bit of a flip when it first came out. For me seeing it the first time- I actually liked it. The sacrifice of the piston cup was such a great moment. Superb character arc. Glad you enjoyed it
22:22 What caused Lightning to be how he was supposed n the movie was explained by a book that McQueen was originally nicer and had a friend named Carl at the racing academy he went to, but the day of the big graduation race, in which the winner would get a sponsorship and be able to race in the piston cup races, Carl told Lightning that one of his lug nuts were loose and could cause an accident. So Lightning let Carl’s pit crew tighten his lug nuts, but they instead loosened them on orders from Carl. When Carl won the race McQueen realized he had been lied to and betrayed by his friend and closed himself off from others. He stopped talking to his classmates, studied more and decided to only trust and rely on himself refusing to let anybody close to his in fear they would betray him as well.
Cars has been a huge part of my childhood. 5 of my birthdays as a kid were cars theme. Had all the collections of the cars characters. Last month I finally got to go Disney adventure park, ride the ride, met lightning McQueen and Mator. I started acting a like a literal child. I burst out crying, tears of joy. Best time of my life! 🥲⚡️
Fun Fact: The King and his wife are voiced by Richard Petty and his wife Linda. Richard is considered the King of NASCAR given his 200 wins and 7 championships in his 35 year career and the character of Strip Weathers was based on him even down to the color, number, and model of the car.
The voice of the King was Richard Petty, aka, King Richard, winner of 200 NASCAR cup series races and 7 Cup championships. NASCAR royalty. He actually campaigned the 1970 Plymouth Superbird aero nose, rear wing, and all back in the day. The 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was the first of the winged cars, and also the first NASCAR-prepped car to top 200mph. That shade of blue became known as Petty blue, and was a King Richard trademark.
What a joy to watch you discover the magic of Pixar. Even from the very start of the movie, you're always looking for the message and the deeper meaning that Disney/Pixar always sprinkles throughout their movies. I would LOVE to see you react to some of the OG live action Disney movies. Parent Trap, Swiss Family Robinson, Muppet Treasure Island. They're all remarkable!
I still tear up when Lightning goes back for The King. I’m glad you enjoyed this movie. It’s such a love letter to Americana, US road trip culture, and obviously Route 66. There’s something special about taking a state road instead of the interstate and driving through countryside and small towns. You miss a lot of the beauty of this country if you only take the interstate.
The joke in the epilouge about Mack commenting about using the same actor over and over is an in-joke of how Pixar used John Ratzenberger in all movies up until Onward.
I believe in the book about McQueen, it says his father was mean and was his first crew chief (Hence the 'Chuck' thing at the beginning). But I do know he has no friends because he has trust issues due to one of his "friends" sabotaging him in the Racing Academy by not waking him up for the final or changing his alarm or something along those lines. Thats why he is the way he is.
Hearing you talk about how nice it is being out their(like in a rural town) i used to live in Tennessee, in a very rural town. The hills and driving through the trees just makes me fall in love with the place over and over again i miss it honestly, me and my mom moved back to iowa but my grandparents still live in Tennessee. Im actually visiting them rn
22:17 I think McQueen was like this, bc when he was in some school or training (I really don’t remember) and his friend betrayed him but I don’t remember how or why. Btw I don’t know if this is a fanfic or theory or fact I just heard this somewhere. Anyway have a good day❤
My favorite moments in Cars are Our Town flashback, when McQueen finally learns to be selfless and helped out the Radiator Springs, King finish his last race, and kept his word for Mater. Please react to the sequels!!! If you need more car movies, I recommend these: The Fast and Furious saga, Herbie films, Speed Racer, Gone In 60 Seconds, Turbo, Baby Driver, and Ford v Ferrari. 🚘⚡️❤️💛
This movie had a pretty interesting and bizarre history such as how they modeled the cars and especially the aforementioned deleted scenes where the storyboard artists played with car anatomy. Like deleted scene where McQueen has a nightmare where his engine just protrudes out of his hood, or the one where he encounters a field of dead cars. Yeah that’s about what I have to say.
The actor who voiced Doc passed between one and two. So instead of replacing him, they gave him a memorial in the sequel. It was really nice
The voice of Doc is Paul Newman, who had a fondness for cars and race cars which is partly why he took the role. I think this was one of his last roles before he passed hence the memorial was not just a tribute to the character, but also to the actor. 😊

Chick is Michael Keaton, who also voiced Ken in Toy Story 3.
They even make a joke about the same thing in this movies end credits, with Mac
Sally kinda sounds like Joy from inside out aswell, though i dont think its the same VA
@@star_stark99 Yeah, that's why I didn't list him, because his voice has been used a ton. He is also the construction worker that meets Carl in UP that gets the leaf blower on his face lol
@@TheDaringPastry1313 I didn’t realize he was in Up as well. I noticed him in the older movies cause of nostalgia.
I never getting tired of seeing that pitstop 46:19
Watch "ICE AGE" franchise my man, it's from an animation studio called "BLUE SKY"
It's sad that it got token down😢
This film marked: Pixar's 20th anniversary, the last film Joe Ranft worked, the last movie on VHS, the last movie to use the filmreel bumper, the last THX certified Pixar movie, the first film i saw in theaters and the film that came out after Disney's complete acquisition of Pixar.
100%!! It's the best land they've added in decades.
Like car Hitler canonically exists 😂
this is such a feel good movie, Lightning going full stop to back up and help the king finish his last race, one of my fav cinematic moments
Film that deserves more appreciation
I love these kinds of Movies. Arrogant MC gets stuck in a small town and gets their sense of priorities back. Doc Holiday with Michael J. Fox is a classic one.
31:11 My FAVORITE Mater moment!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Strip Weathers, AKA The King (the Blue race car) is based on a 1970 Plymouth Superbird, and is based on Richard Petty's car specifically
"I'm happier than a tornado in a trailer park." Best quote ever lmao
In the dubbed version into my language, he says ''I'm happier than a tornado at Manhattan'', which I find even more funny
Fun fact - in the UK, Lightning's agent Harv is voiced by Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear.
I’ve never ever noticed the flashing joke, I can’t stop thinking about it now
Ah, the Maturing Trilogy.
This really means a lot Thankyou ☺️
“They’re gonna make a bunch of jokes about how to cars live!”
Just wait until you see the sequel XD
If you have plans to watch the rest of the Cars franchise, I will warn you that Cars 2 is a movie you’ll either love or despise. There is no in-between.
You can literally don't watch Cars 2 and you miss absolutely nothing. That's how hard it deviates from the main plot that is racing.
Yeah. Just go straight from Cars to Cars 3. You’ll miss nothing, it’s the true sequel.
Cars 2 is still the only Pixar movie I haven’t seen. And have no interest to
@@fightingfaerie is just amusing. Seriously, you don't miss much.
This man's pixar reactions are the best part of my day
After all these years, one thing is for certain. The Frank scene is still terrifying.
Which is ironic considering Brühl then went on to become Niki in Rush
Just yesterday I checked your playlist 3 TIMES, SURE that CARS HAD to be on there, there was no way you'd seen all the others and not this yet, now here it is! Yay!
This was such a pinnacle of my childhood, as was most older Disney movies. Love this so much 😂✊🏻
Glad you giving a watch to this movie, definitely a good one.
Also, that "Oh, they're flashing him" lol
I didn’t get that joke. Then I saw Tallegada Nights. Then I understood the innuendo lol
If you ever get the chance to do a road trip across the US, do it! 1000% worth it. (But make sure your car has working A/C.)
It is amazing what one movie can do
49:19 FUN FACT: This is really Michael Schumacher who voiced this car :) (he’s a F1 racing legend if you don’t know who that is)
2:36 BOI HECK NO they aren't!
But the NASCAR rules in the Cars universe don’t necessarily line up with NASCAR rules in real life
Eeeeeh for a while it technically was as long as you made it look unintentional (thats what separated good drivers from bad) but post 2010 they started cracking down on what made NASCAR , well NASCAR, the wrecks ,the fights and such and ruining it , because as long as you did it and nobody got seriously hurt (i.e barely more than a bruised Ego or budget) then it was ok (and doing it so no one got hurt was also a separation between good and bad)
So while some of what Chick did was barely legal ,most of it was outright illegal (all of it is illegal in todays standards )
I heard from somewhere else that what Chick is doing is an actual strategy that some NASCAR drivers do, just not a lot.
Btw fun fact doc Hudson is based
Of the real life racer
Marshall teague
Aka the 1951 to 1954
Fabulous Hudson hornet
The car topped out at 108 mph
Having a good reliable 6 cylinder or inline 6 engine
About 215 horsepower stock which was high in the 50s
IM HERE. he’s aware that he’s late omg
I know this isn't one of the more emotional Pixars, but I always tear up when Doc races, then when Lightning helps the crashed car.
Saved by the upload !!!
My nephew used to love this movie and recited it frequently lmao
Awww!! I am so insanely happy you liked this one! Cars gets kind of disregarded by some Pixar fans, but genuinely, it’s one of my absolute favorites. And I even liked the 2nd one, so I hope you enjoy it too when you get around to it.
41:55 - Best for *EVERYONE!*
Doc calling the press did Lightning a favor.
The thing is, this story is so multilayered that there are a number of reasons why this part takes place…
In the german version Mater is called Hook and i really love that, i was so confused when i watched it in english for the first time
I'm glad to see you enjoying my most favorite childhood movie! My favorite character was Strip Weathers "The King" 💙
I don't watch every Cocoa Couch video, discovered the channel watching the Friends reactions, but he's one of the few people I actually like on UA-cam, he seems fun to be around.
I used to love this movie. I watched it every day when I was a wee lad.
Also, I totally recommend megamind
You're my first Aussie to like country music. "Let's go!"
6:04 I don't think I ever registered that joke, I haven't seen this movie that much but still woow
I love the look on your face when you saw how fast Guido did the pit stop on McQueen! 😄
This movie was released on my 13th birthday and I still love it to this day.
The sheriff wasn't shooting at him. He hadn't drove that fast in years and messed something up. That's why doc was fixing him up.
31:56 You Aussies get it. I talk about driving culture to my Dutch friend and he calls me brainwashed.
They're all remarkable!
it's funny how everytime i felt down and open youtube, your video is the first thing i saw on the thumbnail and it instantly made my day❤❤
I still tear up when Lightning goes back for The King. I’m glad you enjoyed this movie. It’s such a love letter to Americana, US road trip culture, and obviously Route 66. There’s something special about taking a state road instead of the interstate and driving through countryside and small towns. You miss a lot of the beauty of this country if you only take the interstate.
I waited so long for this one! As an italian Luigi and Guido were so fun to watch :)
The joke in the epilouge about Mack commenting about using the same actor over and over is an in-joke of how Pixar used John Ratzenberger in all movies up until Onward.
As a child, I thought "Hill-Billy Hell" was really funny gibberish and I would say that line pretty often not really knowing the meaning 😂😂😂
The sponsor cars are voiced by Click and Clack were the stage names of Tom and Ray Magliozz. They had a car repair talk show on NPR called Car Talk.
4:31 Alonso in Baku, colorized
Anyway have a good day❤
You really should take a drive from Chicago to Santa Monica on Route 66, “The Mother Road”. It is really incredible.
LOVED Cars 1 and 3, so I'm super happy to see this! Can't wait to see your reaction to Cars 3 as well
My favorite moments in Cars are Our Town flashback, when McQueen finally learns to be selfless and helped out the Radiator Springs, King finish his last race, and kept his word for Mater.
My papa was a big car guy and the only movies he really watched were mostly cartoons, he loooved this movie and Mater was his favorite character
Some shots of this film’s opening race scene look near photo real….incredible how well this movie’s animation has held up.
If you look carefully during the scene Lightning did install mirrors on the top of his "head"
It’s really nice seeing cars getting love finally. It seems like it’s getting the hype it deserved from the start. It’s truly a great film from Pixar
