How to Rust Metal Patina

This is a video on how to rust metal, patina metal and prepare it. After removing all the mill scale, I spray the steel with hydrogen peroxide, salt and vinegar. After repeating this process every day for two or three days, a good, permanent rust forms. The last step is to wipe on a 50:50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. I usually do this twice; waiting a day in between coats for a good cure. Thanks for watching!

I have mostly natural rusted body sheet metal parts to put my car back together except where I welded in new metal where rust through was. Now I will use your method to help blend my new repairs into the old rust.

Thanks for the comment! I really hope this helps. How do you seal the rusted areas when they're done oxidizing? I am use a mixture of linseed oil and mineral spirits.

I follow ur method to rust my vespa body. Great technique! I have question though, when the time to wipe the with linseed & mineral, did you wash the material first to get the rusty dust away?
