I have wanted to do a sweater and have waited for the right pattern. I have had the typical avoidance approach as do many. I not only love the way you teach but appreciate so much that you shared everything on the tutorial. It seems many pattern designers do not share the whole instruction in a tutorial out of fear that one will not purchase the pattern. I feel just the opposite. Because you did the detailed tutorial, I did purchase you pattern because I know that I have a place to go for step by step support. Keep up your wonderful approach and thank you for being there for us beginner sweater knitters.
I just finished this today! I used the yarn cascade 220 in a beautiful purple color. I also used a size US 5 needle for the collar and ribbing as I tend to knit more tightly and that’s how I got gauge. It came out perfectly!! The video tutorials are SO helpful! I just started the Darling Cardigan today as well. I feel so grateful for all the work you put into making great patterns and video tutorials . Thank you!!
Her sweater pattern is really pretty. I hope one day I understand sweaters the way she does to be able to fit them so well and make simple patterns. For now I will try this with a sport weight alpaca and some kid mohair held together, love the fluffy, cozy fireplace sweater vibe ❤
Very nice pattern, love it. A tip for the Italian Bind off so that you don't have a gap at the end. Before you start bind off, place a removable stitch marker through the first 2 stitches on your left needle. The bind off starts here with 1 knit stitch and then a purl stitch, you do the bind off as usual until you have 2 stitches left on your right needle (a knit stitch and a purl stitch), now you insert the tapestry needle on the right the knit stitch on your right needle and purl through the knit stitch on your removable stitch marker and slip the stitch from your right needle and pull the working thread through. Now insert the tapestry needle purlwise through the purl stitch on your right needle and go in the back through the 2 stitches on your removable stitch marker and go right through the purl stitch of the removable stitch marker and slip the last stitch from your right needle and pull the working thread through while removing the removable stitch marker. Everything fits together nicely and you no longer have a gap. Sew in the working thread. Greetings Inge
First time beginner (making garments) and I'm proud to say that I've purchased the pattern and started knitting this lovely jumper. In time.... Cables. Thank you for making a lovely pattern 😊😊
I love this jumper, bought the pattern and now watching and rewatching this tutorial, whilst slowly knitting it. I actually knitted the collar and the first German short row so far. I used to knit a lot when I was a teenager in the 70s' and lost a bit of confidence in my ability as I grew older. Thank you for your brilliant instructions, they help me a lot to try and enjoy this great hobby again. Thank you Kika and please carry on doing these great patterns and tutorials - you are star. ⭐
I know this comment is coming a while after yours, but I think its really sweet that you gained some of that confidence back and are/have learned a new pattern with this tutorial! I'm curious on if you finished the sweater, since so much time has passed! I hope it worked out well for you!
Can't wait to make this for my 19 year old for Christmas. Drops marino wool on the way in sage green her favourite colour 💚. Thank you, Kika, for all your fantastic designs and hard work. ❤
This has got to be the best italian bind off tutorial! Not only do i finally understand how it's done, but i am not afraid of it anymore and i love making it. Thank you for that! :)
The Darling Cardigan has been a success in making and wearing. I intend to make many more. With your tutorial, I felt I could not fail and it gave me confidence. I cannot wait to CO this Cinema Sweater. Thank you so much!
I’m gonna buy this pattern because I’ve never made a sweater and I am not the greatest knitter. Well I’m more like a beginner but watching your videos I can do this and I really want to make a sweater. Thank you for doing the tutorial.
This couldn't be any more timely. I have another sweater (bottom up) that I am just getting to the point that has german short rows. I've been delaying finishing this because I am so confused by these. This was so helpful. Seeing it done in a project and not just a swatch was so helpful. Thank you so much for walking us through this.
You are such a sweetheart to show us how to knit your pattern … I saw this sweater on you on one of your pods and loved it 😊 It simple but so cute Thank you again 😊💝
You are the best!!! I've been knitting for years but have never made a sweater - just easy scarves. Your instructions are so clear...I'm inspired!!! Thank you.
Yay! Hand-knit sweaters are so much cozier than store-bought, especially these days. They can be infuriating the first time, but the folks at r/knitting are helpful
Why do I constantly keep tearing up when you say you're pregnant? Kika, I'm still so happy for you! Thanks for your amazing videos and tutorials. I find myself watching each of them several times, even if I know all the methods. They're such a great companion while knitting ❤
Having such a good time with this pattern and video! I’ve only knitted socks and so far all of my skills are translating super nicely. Happy to have something besides politics to focus on. 🙄 Cozy sweater here I come!
I just started the Cinema Sweater and I have to say, I love your short row instructions - the layout and formatting makes it very easy to follow. Thank you!
Thank you so much for such wonderful podcasts. I especially like the tutorials you do from beginning to end. I buy the pattern and follow you through. Please continue to do that as it really helps us knitters learn how to knit garments. You can’t imagine how helpful it is to watch you teach us how to create such beautiful things. You have a tutorial on the darling cardigan which I plan to do next. I am working on the cinema sweater now. Congratulations on the baby too! Happy New year. Patricia (from California)
Kika, I want to thank you for this tutorial! It inspired me to try and knit my very first work (I only knit swatches before). Now I feel so pleased and happy every time I wear my Cinema sweater! The video was super helpful and clear, and I learned so much! ❤️
When doing the finish on the neck line, I've always just knit them together right when I start the next step of the sweater and that had always worked great. A much more seamless way.
Thank you for this tutorial...I love your way to explain...very clear and professional❤ now german short rows are no problem and all patterns makes sense 😅 thank you for sharing your special tricks and tipps 🥰✨️
Thank you soooo much for breaking down the Italian bind-off, in the way that you did. I finally get it. I have watched countless videos, and always left more confused than when I started. Nice job!
the simply constructed knit top, I've been doing that same loved basic construction for years. fun thing about this style knitting, you can play around with the length of the body and the arms and no sewing. currently working on one with two strands of alpaca and marino blends of yarn, being a lighter weight but fluffy and warm
I just love watching these tutorials Kika, I am not much of a knitter but my mum and my Nan were always knitting something or another, especially when the grandchildren started arriving. I don’t think my daughter ever had a shop bought cardi, my mum made them all. You have inspired me to start knitting again, I will start small and go from there….so thank you for inspiring me💕. Your baby bump is really looking amazing, I bet you and Juki. are so excited for little one to arrive ❤️ Thank you so much as usual for sharing with us, I know they take so much time to produce and post these videos so I appreciate that. Have a lovely week, enjoy the autumn season Thank you again 💕 Tina 💕
Thank you so much. I just finished knitting my first sweater thanks to this video and this pattern. Enjoyed it and can see myself knitting it again with some mohair for an even cozier garment. I used Sandnes Peer Gynt DK yarn (559 grams fir medium cropped) and loved it!
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise in such a beautiful way! Another one of yours will be a go-to for me!! You always show AND explain things so well!
Thank you for this video. I made my first sweater ever with it. Of course I bought the pattern first. I enjoyed the working process very much and got so many compliments when wearing my cinema sweater. 🥰
I've just completed the collar. im excited to step into the next stage. My very first knit sweater, 🎉🎉and im loving how you explain this technique. Thank you
Thank you on the Best Italian bind off. I have never done it because it looked too confusing but you made it simple!!!! Thank you on the game changer on my sweaters!!! Can’t wait to see your little one tooo!
I’d love to see pattern designers making samples for jumpers in acrylic yarn as well as these beautiful wool and mohair combinations. Particularly for the easy/beginner jumpers and cardigans. Thank you for this very helpful video. ❤
Thank you, Thank you, thank you! Casted on this sweater New Year’s Day. I have never done short rows and was a little nervous. I got through all of them today. Your tutorial was perfect!
attempting to knit this as my second project, first was a beanie lol. Going to the yarn store tomorrow and am going to update myself once I finish hehehe. Hope I do! 😭
Well, it certainly isn’t exactly the clearest explanation of German short rows, but one does learn the placement of the beginning and ending points of the short rows, I.e., the sleeve stitches are included in the short row sections, so, in my understanding at least one stitch past the raglan increase into the front. This is all really tricky. I will look to other videos for actually making those GSR stitches. I am also thinking I may want to shorten the depth of my armholes. All that said, it is an extremely charming presentation from which I learned several things. Especially about yarn choices & what I do with those fingering weight yarns that I purchases & then avoided due to how long it would take d take me to make a whole sweater out of them. So, thanks for a cheerful uplift on a dark winters day .😊
Always love your videos. You sweater making tutorial is so clear and helpful, thank you so much! I'm planning to make your BEAUTIFUL Wishbone Sweater, what a great design!!
I just thumbs up because you are a joyous beautiful woman. Now I will look and see how to knit the jersey. Thank you, ps My daughter in law is also German and quite beautiful, too.
I would not be able to do this without the video! Thank you so much! I still don’t understand the reason we make that double stitch and then knit/purl them next round!,,,😮I would love to know why?
Lovely. Thanks for your amazing tutorial. I will watch it fully soon. I wonder if you mentioned how many balls did you use for this project (for both yarns). I didn't get yarn information right. Brand, color and grams. Where did you buy from it? Thanks once again. Ana from Brazil ❤
Hi Kika! Oh I‘ve been waiting for this pattern so desperately!! 😊 But please tell us how many stitches you added to the neck of the grey sweater?!? Because it‘s absolutely perfect!!! Lots of love Sabine
Question! after you cast on the stitches for the underarm do you connect them after? Like you do for the collar? Srry im not a pro its my first time knitting a sweater)
Thank you so much for this video! I'm trying to knit a sweater based on one pattern i bought and it's rather unclear to me. I've never done german short rows or reglan before and for that pattern i need to do both at the same time, so I was very confused XD thanks to you I know what to do! :)

Beautifully cozy sweater. Great teaching style.
I have this video saved so everything I'm doing an Italian bind off I can refresh myself on the beginning set up rows.
Just watched your explanation for sewing instead of knitting it together. Thanks.

Great tutorial. You look adorable, pregnancy definitely agrees with you. I have to say I’m still confused by German short rows.
