Thank you. The guitar itself plays like a dream. The neck is very substantial, but it plays like butter. I actually had the frets leveled, as Gibson's custom shop falls a bit short in that area.
It IS an awesome set up and sound. Considering the Rockman sound emulated a saturated Marshall Plexi, it makes sense that you would hear that distinctive Marshall flavor...
They had a Rockman XP100 combo in a local store last summer for $399. For what these are going for, I went to check it out. I played it and liked the Distortions that it gives but wasn't to keen on the over processed sound so I passed. Now I wish I would have Snatched it up! I want a XPR Proccesor!..
They are out there and well worth every penny. The amp you see in this video is an XP100, totally refurbished and housed in a head with built in 6" Pyle speakers.
That’s because Boston is more than just music. It is medicine. I am guilty of the same pleasures. Although I have utilized all of my gear live and in the studio.
@@perfectsound500 I agree, although my comment was supposed to be comedic relief. I have a Rockman sustainor, distortion generator, an X100 and a cool knock off pedal called "the goat". Love them all but never use them live.
@@davegoodwin1848 Oh, I laughed when I read your comment. It’s very true. Nothing like playing endless power chords in your bedroom…just to bask in endless sustain! 🙂
Yes, the speakers are right behind the grill cloth...in this way, it is a fantastic practice amp. It is also a 100 way monster that can push a full stack...
Can you clarify? Are you talking about the Sustainor setup? The EQ after the Sustainor? Not sure what they were off hand. The video was taken in 2007, but basically 125HZ is boosted (+6). 500 HZ is cut. 700 HZ and 1 KHZ are boosted(+3). 1.6KHZ and 2.8KHZ are cut (-9). 2KHZ is even with 700 and 1KHZ. 4, 8, and 16 are rolled off...
in my different presets,Im really happy with the rythem sound, not happy with the solo settings.I forgot to mention I have a alesis m-eq 230 for more tone control but I haven't hooked it up to the sustainor setup yet
I have a xpr setup like you suggested on your site, the noise gate,eq,chorus and echo then I have the sust.200 with a chorus dalay with a rocktron pro,q.I ABY both kicking in both at once or each on their own,I just love your tone and want to get that with either of setup gear I have.thx in advance
ive tried many ways to replicate one of my idols (Tom Scholz) I have a RockmanX100 I run through a Marshall 5005 with a Wha pedal Half cocked using a les paul with split coil pick ups has got me pretty close but Tom is amazing, not just his playing but a brilliant innovator isn't he? great video love the sound. ive lived in Boston my whole life and remember when the rockman line came out. loved it unfortunately I only have very few pieces of the original Rockman line, would love a powersoak.
I have posted some info for you. Bass=+5 1.8k=-5 Treb=+5 chorus=slow Echo from stereo echo in effects loop. 150=0 500=-6 1k=-2 2k=+2 5k=-2 EQ Volume=+3 Master Treb and Bass approximately center. These are my Solo settings. I have a SmartGate in the loop, running through a Remote Loop before the Stereo Echo...used only for distortion settings. Compressor is all the way up. The Effects Loop is always on. I switch the Smart Gate and Echo on and off independently with an Octopus.
Wish Dunlop would reissue the Rockman Modular Head.. I'm sure they would sell'. I remember these in a popular music store in Minneapolis (Very late 80'-early 90's?). If I would have known back then!! The 500 watt Modular Head that is.

Yup you can buy better-made guitars for less money than you could 30 years ago, especially factoring inflation. That greater value doesn't mean some more expensive guitars aren't worth owning and playing also, I'd just be more picky about the exact guitar. A great asian PRS will not do everything a great Gibson LP Reissue will do, and used Gibsons aren't a bad price.
perfect,1 more question.lol and that's it promis, what about settings for the rockman EQ post settings do you use to get that great sound on your web site
It sure is a nice guitar, but I would not buy myself a Gibson, at least not a new one. They're just way too overpriced for relatively low quality. Especially the cheap models suck. You can get much better guitars from less known companies for about 500 bucks. I've got a handmade Les Paul that I bought for 650€ (originally it would have cost 1400) and it plays and sounds just awesome.
hey david from perfect sounds I know I promosed no more questions but Im resetting up my xpr with noise gate,eq,then to chorus and echo,on going from chorus to echo ive forgotten the outputs to the chorus to the echo in dummy terms at me,how do I hook up chorus to echo, what output goes to what on the echo, processed to mono input or other way, thanks again
hey david did you see my last question about chorus to echo hookup.cant remember coming out of chorus to echo, when coming out of chorus what outputs go to the inputs on the echo.I don't want to hook it up backwards
I loved your distortion sound! Let me ask you something. Is there a way to have the rockman sound with regular amps? If I use compressor, chorus, equalizer and overdrive pedals, can I get close?
Yes, you can get close. Standard guitar cabs do not have the frequency response of PA cabs, but a good tone can be achieved if done right. However, with standard cabs, you will only hear about 60% of what you hear through full range PA cabs.
I have a behringer em600 stereo echo pedal and cannot figure out where to put it in my chain, using the xpr setup and the sustainor setup.help would be appreciated.thx
If it is a stereo echo, then it could be placed in the XPR effects loop. If you are using it with a Sustainor, it would be run after a Chorus, etc. Make sure you read all of the articles and view all of the templates on the PerfectSound website...
someone suggested I could tie all the modules and share them with my xpr setup and sustainor setup with a octopus but I cant rap my head around tying everything together without y cords and just using the same modules perfectsound500
perfectsound500 ok Im going to try to get this in my head and leave you alone. what I have is a sustainor 200,dual eqs, rockman chorus/delay and a behringer em600 echo pedal.is this the way to hook this up? sustainor send to my hush to the pre dist eq back to the all return or dist edge. then out the out put of sustainor to post eq to chorus/delay and then to em600 echo, then to power mixer.the echo is stereo. the xpr setup is send to hush,eq,chorus, echo all return the stereo outs to power mixer.thx for all ur help.I do appreciate. then I aby both in and out.
perfectsound500 I have read and read david,so the chorus and echo do not go in the sustainor effects loop and im confused to why all effects go in the xpr loop, and in the xpr setup, its gate then eq and chorus, echo, right, where would u put a wha wha peddle.thx and if I was using the em600 echo it would go where the rockman echo is at. its stereo too
Whats more desirable? A Rockman sustainer? or the XPR rack unit? There are a few Sustainers on Ebay etc.. Or should I save and wait for a XPR to come up on the selling block?
Both are desirable. Having a Sustainor setup can be amazing if it is put together right. If you have the money for an XPR, they are awesome as well...but not perfect. I wrote an article about it on the PSRR website.
I'd say you have ample guitar skill to play Boston, but the sound is definitely not dialed-in. Sorry I can't suggest how to tweak it, other than to say it needs more crispness, seems a little flat/mushy.
32DorBust I appreciate your input. I prefer a tone closer to Eddie’s, but that being said...my days of tweaking Rockman gear are long over. I retired perfectsoundrockrefurbs several years ago now.
This sounds incredibly good.what playing. What a tone.

Man this takes me back. I only had the black box i was very attached to it... Never seen the amps before . Nice Demo too.
Mick Mick Thank you
Great tone man!!! There's nothing like that Rockman sound
Brought out my rock man rig the other week for a show, plays great!
Awesome!! Great visual with your equipment too!

Can you show how to wire up the individual Rockman units in your other videos please?
Thank you
what do you mean "isn't your best"?! you fuckin play really good man! Such an awesome set up, I'm jealous. Tom is the best
Thank you for the kind words. Tom was a huge inspiration for my playing. Of course, Eddie was too!! And Randy Rhoads, and, and....
Fact: 99% of guitarists buy Rockman components for ridiculous prices in order to play parts of Boston songs in their bedrooms/living rooms.
That’s because Boston is more than just music. It is medicine. I am guilty of the same pleasures. Although I have utilized all of my gear live and in the studio.

Outstanding! Couldn't play it better myself.......couldn't play it at all actually! ;)

Sounds Badass! : )
Look further back in this blog. I list the EQ settings you are hearing in this video. Of course, you need to have an XP100...
Nice gear, nice playing.
Thank you

did you get a chance to read my last question david.thx
perfect,1 more question.lol and that's it promis, what about settings for the rockman EQ post settings do you use to get that great sound on your web site
hey dave would please list your eq settings I have just about all the rockman gear and want that sound, thanks
EQ settings are strictly the XP100 settings...
thx dave, ill give it a try.are you using another eq in the loop or just the xps eq
So are the speakers mounted behind each side of the front panel? Holes cut out behind the Material covering?
David Accomando is THE premier ROCKMAN repair and information source...(aside from Tom Scholz)...been following him for years now!!!
any idea how to link a sustainor to a chorus/delay and I have a alexis 214 eq a power amp then a midi roctron pro EQ with built in noise gate
Sounds just like my Marshall 6100 but more processed.
bad ass.
have david what settings would you sugest for the solo on more than a feeling, thx again
Are you speaking of the programmed EQ settings in the XP100 shown?
It sure is a nice guitar, but I would not buy myself a Gibson, at least not a new one. They're just way too overpriced for relatively low quality. Especially the cheap models suck. You can get much better guitars from less known companies for about 500 bucks.

500 HZ completely cut . 250 HZ at -6
yes post eq
More slide runs, please.
Don Campbell Good Morning...the guitar playing aspects are not what my intent of this video is. It is to showcase what a modified XP100 sounds like.
Ok, just trying to inject some humor...not trying to hurt feelings. Take care.
Don Campbell No issues...just wanted to clarify. I hope the good (or bad) sound of the amp comes through. 👍🏻
Compressor is all the way up.
are you boston fun ?
Yes, I am a huge Boston fan.
Now boston is come japan !
So what actual amp is this?
Touge T XP100 with a Stereo Echo and Smart Gate in the loop, controlled by an Octopus.
Chorus echo distortion

You play way too many of those slide runs. You need to keep it simple and melodic.
No he doesn't... this is HIS style.
@Ineir....agreed, dude sounds awesome....good tone too! Keep rippin' perfectsound500, GREAT playing man! BTW, it IS melodic!
