  • We're behind the scenes during the production of Alien: Covenant, where we step inside the elaborate set created for David's lair. Adam explores the details of this densely dressed set, packed with props and beautiful artwork that we only glimpsed on screen. The amount of work put into this laboratory of horrors is incredible!

    David's Lair was one of my favorite parts about Covenant. The thought that a robot us humans created, was on another planet, exploring, researching, and thinking out of it's own curiosity, was simply astounding. It immersed me into his world, and made me wish I could spend hours in his lab, observing everything he has collected and researched after all those years.

      It would have been more interesting to make a movie about the alien the engineers thought was a god & them trying to recreate its blood & coming up with that black liquid shit. But they wanted to make dickheads in space as a sequel.

    This reminds me of Giger's studio. He had bones, books, and paintings all over his home. At first it's really morbid to look at but with all of the work in progress, it also looks sort of lively.

      The box office was fine. Not a disaster by any means but likely they'd have to lower the budget if making another one. It's a strong brand that probably will see more installments even if they bomb.

    • @ThisIsMyFullName
      @ThisIsMyFullName 7 років тому +8

      The movie made over twice its budget, it just wasn't as much as Fox hoped it would make. In comparison, Prometheus made over three times its budget, while still costing 30 mill more to make then Covenant. I think we'll see a sequel to Covenant, with a smaller budget, and the success of that movie will determine whether we'll see any more.

    • @ThisIsMyFullName
      @ThisIsMyFullName 7 років тому +3

      The Vostro Gamer It was The Hollywood Reporter who wrote that Fox were reconsidering making more new Alien movies, despite the fact that the script for the new movie is complete. But it is a bit worrying, considering Ridley want to make two more prequels, leading up to Alien.

    There should have been a solid 20 minute sequence in 'Covenant' with David killing the engineers, crashing the ship, waking up Shaw, Shaw's death in his lab and his studies on the neomorph/xenomorph & how he came to love his 'perfect creation'. Fassbender could have made that beautiful.

    The room was scaled for human size, which I found odd. The giant Engineers would not have able to fit through the doors or sit on those benches. Unless David created the entire room himself (carved it out) but the age and patina of the place makes that scenario seem unlikely. Perhaps a flaw in logic on the filmmakers' part...? Amazing set decor, though!

    I love all the details and textures and imagery that goes into this. Clearly everything has been thoughtfully chosen by Ridley and the creative team at 20th Century Fox, from the color scheme of the chamber to the particular handwriting on each insect specimen backing. Pity it all is taken down after photography ends; there ought to be a "Hollywood Museum of Sets", where really interesting and striking ones are saved for posterity so that the film is not all we have left of the room/setting.

    I also think the film was very well made, it told the story of Alien very well and filled in a lot fo the gaps.
    I think those who say the film is bad havent spent enough time thinking about the film and Prometheus. People who just want to watch a great 2 hour stand alone film probably wont work out Covenant.
