The sidewall on the new Dura is actually better than the old. It's just that they're showing you the less aggressive side on the new. The aggressive side on the new is a hell of a lot more aggressive than the old.
What are you on about the old ones not being 3-peak snowflake rated? The old ones have always had that rating, that's why they're so popular on Canadian pickups.
I am a little disappointed that the new ones don't have stud holes like the old LT one (at least here in Canada), but overall it is great to see a new version!
The old duratrac has had a 3 Peak rating since day 1. Every truck in Canada has them because they're legal to run in the provinces that mandate snow tires.
@cjlos2050sp they are a mud and heavy snow tire. No shit they are gonna be louder than a normal tire.... I drive like 20+ hrs every 2 weeks at highway speeds on them and they are fine
@krispayyt5380 mine sound like if i had 4 bad wheel bearings when i drive. Slightly annoying but with some music it helps cover the noise. They are pretty worn out aswell so it is to be expected. Running 285 /70/17 D rated with 3 peak snow rating
I've been a Duratrac fan for years except for the noise and performance on ice. I recently purchased a set of RTs, and after 1,200 miles, which included very icy conditions, can attest those two issues have been resolved. I'm extremely pleased with the new RTs on my 2013 Jeep 2 door, Rubicon. I also love the 3 ply sidewall and can run them comfortably at 28 psi on the highway.
I run them at 28psi on road and have never had any issues on my 2920 Tundra. 285/75/18 ..the psi usually goes up by 3-4 after driving for a bit ..have 30K on them now
I ran DuraTrac on my Land cruiser for 12 years using 3 sets with an average of 120,000km on each set, now I am running them on the New Land Rover Defender 110 so far I have done 53,000Km but will be lucky to get another 20-25K more on the same tyres admittedly these tires did 4,000km of gravel road this year so still very good. I noticed in your comparison with the new LT version it looked like a bigger tyre was it?
I ran a set of the old DuraTracs and was not impressed by their wet snow and ice performance. I tried a set of the new Goodyear Wrangler Ultra-Terrains and fell in love! Amazing grip in all conditions along with incredible wear. I was hoping that the new DuraTrac RTs would upgrade to the Ultra-Terrain rubber compound, but the rep said it was the same old compound. Too bad. I may try the new RTs if I can't get the Ultra-Terrains in a bigger size.
Put 400 miles on my new RT’s over the weekend and they seem quieter than my last set. Got 70,000 miles on an ‘05 Grand Cherokee with the last ones and the ones on my Dodge 2500 are holding up well with about 40,000 miles. They are loud as hell when they get around 60 or 70% worn but what mildly aggressive tires don’t?
They are dang good tire! Highly recommend! they are quieter, sticky, but a bit stiffer which has been great! I've had no issues up/over mt hood pass an into several ski areas; also excellent when towing snowmobiles as well :) @@daoyang8919
Nice to see Goodyear make a more serious off-road tire. I went on a trip with ten trucks for nine days last year and only one vehicle had a puncture. A new Ford Bronco with the factory Goodyears, but it had two separate punctures.
They came on my truck when I bought it. It's a 13chevy 2500hd 4x4. I put close to 80k on that first set. Just got off a set of the goodyear ultra terrain ats which weren't that bad. Just didn't get the miles like the duratracs. So now I just got a set of the duratrac rts plus a new set of bilstein 5100 shocks on all 4 corners and it drives nicer then when I got it! Best tire for me here in the cascade mtns in Washington state.
What would be the biggest size of the new rt I can fit on my stock 2023 tundra without rub? If you let me know I will definitely order ASAP 🤩 I've had the older ones on a Tacoma and loved them on Alaska roads and highways, year round. Thank you!
I love how they talk about "don't change it.. so we didn't" minus the 7 different changes.. should have made the old tire 3ply sidewall and thats it. looks way worse and now im worried about it chunking off on gravel because of the little groove in the outer tread like a BFG
Just got the new ones....I had the older version on my truck before....new ones suck in mud...older was better....was able to do a lot more off roading!!!!...even with half tread
This video just leaves me with more questions. Assuming the Oz market spec is no different than US spec, where Duratracs have been a huge success. The new RT is available both in LT and non-LT in the US. Both 3PMSF rated in the sizes for my F-150 (275/60-20). Both E load rated, but the LT has a higher service description (123/120 vs 115). Not sure of sidewall ply differences in the RT vs LT-RT.
yeah i need new tires, i had the now 'old' duratrac's & luv em, exceptional grip in the wet (i found) and good on any surface ... the sidewall is a bummer on the new ones. might try get old ones or go for something else. Any suggestions? Was looking at the Nitto Ridge Grapplers but read mixed reviews.
You going to get mixed reviews on EVERY tire. It's down to the driver in the end. Some love 'em… some hate 'em. There is no such thing as a tire that everyone loves. You just need to decide what's right for you…. not what's right for the other guy.
I bought my first truck - it’s a (SUV) 2003 Jeep wrangler X and it came with 33x12.5x15 OG Duratracs on it.. I have nothing to compare them to but they need to be replaced and for some reason I want to check out other tires ideally kenda or Mickey Thompson but that size is a bit rare ..
Never had an issue with sidewall failure, but to be fair I only ever took on one two day trip in the mountains. The wet traction truly sucks, but snow traction is quite good. It’s even fairly competent in the mud, I’m really looking forward to buying a set of these and try them out. Lastly a little detail often ignored is how light the original duratrac weighs, the unsprung weight comes with many advantages.
I’ve put the old Duratracs on my GU Patrol and our MU X, awesome tyre! On the Patrol mine have done 110,000kms and have so much tread left I’m putting them on the camper trailer. The new Duratrac RT’s are going on the Patrol today. My only beef with Goodyear is this.. The original Duratrac was the perfect tyre for those wanting a reliable all terrain with the look of an aggressive mud terrain tyre, all you had to do was introduce the 3 ply side wall.. why did you have to go and ruin the look of the side biters, they looked so much better before..

Well that's helped me make my decision ,I've been running the old duratracs for years over all types off terrain with incredible mileage. I'll now be turning my attention to another brand. shouldn't try and fix something that isn't broken .
@@TyreReviewVideosyou mention the sips etc for snow. And these are the recommended “snow” tires for cybertruck. It does not appear to be studdable however. Is that because they are comfortable with its ice performance?
