NEW GoodYear Wrangler Duratrac RT | Are Sequels Always Better?

- In this video I give my first impressions on the NEW GoodYear Wrangler Duratrac RT. Goodyear was kind enough to send me a set to try out on our 4 door Ford Bronco. I used to always run the @Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac's on my trucks, now it's time to test them out on the Bronco.
Let me know your thoughts on the new Duratrac RT!
They definitely look the part! 3 ply sidewall is a must so I’m glad they fixed that
They sure do! Thanks David!
I like tires and tire talk regardless of what platform it’s for
Right? I could talk tires all day!
@@NorthShoreBronco Such a fascinating topic
@@Lethal_Venom so much to talk about! Sidewall, plies, compound, size, tread pattern, etc...
@@NorthShoreBronco Grip and breaking half shafts....oh that's more of cobra stuff lol
@@Lethal_Venom lol, your talking to the guy who broke two CV shafts on his Bronco 😂
We have them on our work trucks in northern ontario and they have been great offorad and on snow so far. Obviously not as good as a dedicated winter tire on ice but still very good for what it is
Yeah, I'm impressed with them too, especially for a tire that does so well offroad.
Good video. Wait for 37’s in that style!
@@popo_patty thanks! Yea, 37 RTs would be killer
I used to see them on a lot of Canadian Pipe liners rigs. When I was in the Oil sands it was always snow/ice or mud!
Great review dude! Thanks for sharing!
My Cooper STT Pros have been fine, but I don’t know that I’d buy them again. They’re great at gripping rocks and getting traction in muddy situations, but they’re not great or good at anything else (besides looking the part).
Thanks! Yea, I can't wait to test these in the Snow this winter. The old Duratrac was great in the winter.
Yea, I like my Toyo MTs on my 2 door but they are cracking and wearing faster than I'd like. Will be trying something different.
Get the boulder m/t’s next. I’m curious about that tire myself! I’m running Mickey Thompson baja legend exp and they are amazing so far
I just might do that! Those Mickey Thompson's are nice!
What size are you running? It doesn’t look like they currently make a 315/70R/17 for a direct Sas Territory MT replacement.
285/75R17 is the tallest in 17. Equals to 33.8x11.2. For an overland rig I think it's plenty. But for my off-road 2 door I'll wait for either 37's, or go with Boulder MT's next. You can get a 35 in the RT but only in the 20" wheels right now.
I’m curious of road noise, that was the only reason I did not buy OG duratracs, they were loud as hell
These are much quieter so far. I'll do a long term review next summer to see if they get louder with wear.
@ the update would be awesome
Might consider removing those "rock catcher" bars on the side.
Yea I know. That's my wife's bronco. I have rock sliders on my 2 door. Will be testing out the Boulder MT's this weekend, video on that in a week or so!
Just so with the Falken Wildpeak RT01
Hmm, not sure there's enough sipping to be that good in the winter.
@@NorthShoreBronco Yea, not three peak rated. Check out the Wildpeak AT 4w
How are they on road? Are you running an E load? Are they firm or soft on road?
Yes, they are E load. And I find them soft on the road. We came from Toyo MTs and the ride is much smoother now.
Did you air down for the rocks?
@@coachdeanbrown I was at 15 psi for the whole video. My standard as soon as I hit the dirt.
Dang. I want something close in size to my stock Sasquatch tires, don't want to go smaller or larger for that matter. How many ply were the sidewalls on the stock tires?
Pretty sure the Wrangler Territory's are 2 ply sidewall. And yea, the 285/75R17 are half inch shorter and about an inch narrower. They will be releasing new sizes later this year.
Is this 3 Peak Snow rated too?
Yes! All sizes!
I bought a set of Duratrac RTs few weeks ago in europe. they have a DOT 1824, so fresh, but lack the 3 peak symbol. they are only M+S. I feel ripped off 😕
Are you sure they are the RT's? They still have the old model, and the original did not all have the 3 peak symbol. The RT's should.
yeah, thats what it says on the tire. it looks like a crossbreed between your tire and the old generation non RTs 💁♂️
@@nesertema4583 that's odd. What country are you in. Now I'm curious.
@@NorthShoreBronco I live in Slovakia, EU. the tire is made in South Africa 🙂💁♂️
I ran them for years until I put them on my 1 ton, and they didn't last
I wonder how these new RT's would do on a 1 ton. It's the same compound but they tweaked the tread pattern for better wear.
Well, I'm putting on Cooper Stronghold. I'll give it time. Maybe I'll go back , but 70 km on my truck two sets of Duratrac s
@@Xbolt1969 Those coopers are nice looking tires! Hope they do well for you.
@@NorthShoreBronco
I'll keep you informed
Does it last longer? See a lot of these completely worn down at 35,40 k miles.
@@drewolm I'll let you know once I get there. They are supposed to wear better. Time will tell.
Not a fan at all. They didn't change hardly anything from the previous duratrac. Basically only a sidewall change. Much much better options out there for sure. this tire would be my last option personally
Outdoor auto did a comparison of this tire vs the previous duratrac when it was first launched. Didn't change hardly anything at all unfortunately. Basically a name update and that's it
Just finished the video. Kinda mis information here. They actually didn't change much at all like you claim they did. "Listened to their customers"
I mean if adding a side wall ply counts as that I guess. But nothing else even compound wise changed. Definitely a low tier tire in my opinion. For the money you had much better options objectively
Yea that was a real good video, watched it as well. My point is that they didn't change things just to change things. The tread pattern was nice and worked, so all they did is tweak it. It was already one of the best winter all terrain tires and they added more sipping. The main complaint people had with it was the weak sidewall and they added a ply and a layer of kevlar to rectify that problem.
So what's the better choices ?
@@mattdagger1480 They changed the middle tread pattern, added a ton more siping and made it full depth as well as 3Ply sidewalls....
