Everything depends on what you use your truck for. I have a 2019 Ram Power Wagon that I use as more of a work truck than an off-roader. I run a ranch in Montana and I need a vehicle that can haul hay and equipment across, muddy, snowy, and rocky terrain. So far, after nearly 5 years, these tires have never let me down.

I am getting a new set of Dura Tracs installed on my Ram 3500 next week. I have had the older version for 14 years and they are just starting to show some cracks between the treads. I have found the older ones to be very durable and that they provided very good traction in ice and snow. Looking forward to the even better traction and highway performance of the newer version. Great review!

Liked it. Have the Duratraks on my F350 Tremor and very happy so far at 55K (definitely louder than new though). Lots of tread left for a bit anyway! I have used them off road in Moab on the rocks and desert in Sedona while towing. I have zero complaints. It tough to think how much better the KO's might be lol! Keep up the great work!

Before we can criticize the depth of the siping, you must first understand why they did it - and that is to prevent tread block squirm. You need to understand that not all tread patterns are optimized for every vehicle. A Toyota Tacoma isn't going to experience tread squirm, but a 1 ton pickup will. This happens a lot when dealers don't ask the right questions when selling siping (you can sipe used tires), and then the customer takes their vehicle out, throws it into a corner and damn near ends up in the ditch because the tire behaves in a completely different manner now. BFG gets away with it because of the actual tread design, there's much more surface area to the tread blocks where the Dura Trac is more open. The BFG's don't hold a candle to the Dura Trac in the snow, so you just need to know the actual purpose of the tire along with the vehicle that they're installed on. Trade off's just like everything else in the world. Thanks for the video man!

I've been using the older Duratracs for years on several work and personal trucks. I run studs when new and after a couple winters I pull the studs and use them as summer tires while getting a new set of freshly studded ones for the winter again. The lack of stud holes on the new Duratracs is a concern for me.

I had duratracs on my ram rebel I loved them the first 2 winters but then they didn’t quite have the original grip even though there was plenty of tread left. I replaced them with ko2s. Now slightly stiffer ride but good grip in most situations and quieter on the road. One thing though in really deep snow the new duratracs were definitely better performing.

I'm running the Toyo Open Country AT3 and really love them. Bought my 2019 F350srw with the 6.7 and it had the Goodyear wrangler with Kevlar. Got 32,000 miles on them and they were worn out. Not a good tire for a heavy truck. Bought the Toyo Open Country AT3s and have 41,000 miles on them and are still going strong. I always rotate my tires at 5,000 miles. Tires have no chopping and are quite.

My truck came stock with the non 3 peak duratrac and they have worn terrible. I rotate my tires every 5k and it still isn’t enough to keep them from chopping and shaking constantly. They have definitely lost snow traction with age but have lasted 100000 km so that’s been good. I can’t wait to get Toyo open country at, hopefully they wear better and don’t shake so bad. I also have had my truck realigned twice in that 100000km and it made no difference.

I had a set of og duratracs on my old diesel pickup. I really liked them the first year but once they started to wear , wow did they get loud and wore badly . At that time my truck was new and in perfect condition. I rotated them every oil change . Currently run a set of falken wild peak at3 on my newer 2500 duramax and was pleased with them but now at 40000km and 3rd season they are cracking in between the tread blocks and side wall. I hauled my old camper 200 km to sell and picked up my new camper maybe 400 km back to our lot. Other than that once a month I tow a 14 x8 enclosed atv trailer . Kinda disappointed with the falkens , half the tread life left but I don’t trust the tires now due to the cracking I have only seen cracking on older tires 6-10 years old. I run a dedicated winter tire on separate rims so the falkens will be parked very soon and trashed. I guess I will figure out what tires to buy over the winter. I don’t mind spending the money if the tires would last according to the manufactures claim.

Having siping all the way through will make the tread weak as it wears down. You have more chance of ripping entire treads off on rough terrain. Shallow siping keeps the tread together for longer. I live in Australia, and frequent rough barron land adventures and the new RTs are the best. Previously run Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT I would say the Goodyear are in a league of their own.

    • @TheGettyAdventures
      @TheGettyAdventures  3 місяці тому +1

I get that, and it makes sense but it is interesting how the Ko3 with a good amount of siping have it throught the entire tread. • @guylevasseur6226

The Duratrak 275/70R18 on all the Rebels DO NOT have the snowflake symbol, which means it’s a harder rubber compound, the other sizes like 275/65R18 DO have the snowflake symbol which is a softer compound.
My 2020 Rebel has 105,000km, my tires are still good for one more year, they are not very good on icy roads because of the harder rubber. I do install winter wheel for 3 months during the winter, so in reality the Duratrak tires do not have 105,000km on them, however I barely travel with my truck in the winter months, so I would say the Duratrak tire have approximately 90,000km on them.

I had the the old version of the duratracs on my trail boss when I bought it and they became so loud on the road (yes I did rotate) I had get rid of them at 25k miles. I bought BFG's and am well over the 25k mark now and they are much quieter than the old duratracs. I am now purchasing a ZR2 (has 22k miles on it) that comes with the new style Duratracs. Should I have the dealer swap those with my BFG's when I trade in or is anyone noticing these are better? Maybe I just had a bad batch first time around but I said I would never drive goodyear again.

On my f150 i had 122km on dtracs, and got 140km on KO2s. For my driving style, the ko2 was smoother, quieter, better on fuel.
On my 3/4 service truck i had good luck with the 1 set if dtracs i tried. Got 70km on them before i put on new tires for the winter. Replaced them with Ridge Grapplers, doing well so far. (But slightly louder, worse on ice and worse gas mileage) Those are minor complaints on a work truck tho.

@@TheGettyAdventures my service truck weighs 10,500lbs, with 50/50 hwy and oil field roads. I've ran Nokian rock proofs, duratracs and now ridge grappler on the service truck. I wouldn't advise ridge grappler for you as they are not a snowflake rated tire.
My ko2s I replaced with Toyo At3, they have been really good so far. Heavier duty than the ko2s, but I like them.
Unless you are doing lots of offroad, I would rank them BFG, Toyo At3, then duratrac.

I believe the issue with tire wear is related to rim size. I have 17 inch rims and 20s. My 17 inch rim the duratracs wear ok. With minimal tire rotation. My 20s with the duratracs sucks for tire wear. I believe the larger rotation makes for more imbalance issues which correlates to the poor tire wear. Unfortunately I think that this is just the result of having a larger rotating mass on the road. Makes these tires harder to maintain a descent tread wear. Hence s why I will be switching back to my 17s.

    • @TheGettyAdventures

I have run old duratracs studded and not studded.... Doesn't seem to do much on this sort of tire. I think there's just too much give, the contact patch is very spread out... the studs don't get much pressure. I think they work better aired down than with studs on ice and snow. All of the changes to the "new" duratrac would make it my year-round tire of choice if they would offer it in my size. I run STT Pro in summer and duratrac winter because I don't trust a duratrac sidewall on brutally rocky 4x4 trails.

Maybe now they won't just randomly have the sidewall split and fail with more than half the tread left. I won't buy goodyear ever again, and not because the tire failed, well partially because it failed, but because they wouldn't back the failure. The guy at my local goodyear store said i should have used more high-quality rubber protectant if it was going to be parked outside where the sun could hit it.
