I haven't seen it yet but I think the first two Kung Fu Panda movies are actually really great and I'm pretty disappointed that this one (similar to Kung Fu Panda 3) doesn't seem to try and surprise with its quality or passion or emotion, even though that's one of my favourite things about the original 2
I'll be honest, in my head I wrote off the movie as soon as I saw Tigress wasn't appearing. Po & Tigress' friendship was one of the best things about KFP2, an absolute core of the movie and the series as a whole.
The second one is a masterpiece.
Agreed, actual 10/10 for me
We r never going back to those times
I never buy into the excuse that "it doesn't have to be as good because it's for kids." Kids media should be the best media that exists, held to the highest standard. It affects how we see storytelling, communication, and reality for the rest of our lives. Some of my favorite films are made for kids, and some of the worst garbage I've ever seen was made for kids too. They're still movies and should not be judged differently.
Dude watch the second one. It’s insanely underrated. 10/10 for me. Unironically
Insanely underrated? Everything I hear about 2 nowadays is that it's a masterpiece. If anything it's the opposite.
Out of all of them here’s my ranking from best to worst
1. Kung Fu Panda
2. Kung Fu Panda 2
3. Kung Fu Panda 3
4. Kung Fu Panda 4.
Interesting, I’d switch 1&2
Which is also the release order so it's a multi-functional list.
I honestly like shen the most, he was a dope villain
Imagine how cool the movie would’ve been if *spoilers* the Chameleon already had the villains’ powers at the start of the movie and when she took their powers, she trapped them in the mortal realm, forcing Po and Zhen (better written and not voiced by Awkwafina) to team up with them to travel to defeat the Chameleon and get the villains’ powers back so they can return to the spirit realm. That would give the story a real sense of stakes that I don’t think the version we got had
Damn looks like ill save some money
1 and 2 were phenomenal, three was disappointing, and I was afraid this one would be more of 3. Seems I was right :/
I think you guys should review the other KFP movies, especially the first two
I don't get why they make the movie childish when this saga is kinda old by this point and so the people that are mostly going to see it are grown up fans of the original
i thought the film was phenomenal
all of the movies have a recurring plot where po learns from his experience, fails and training and that happens again in this film. the theme of the movie is what po told zhen, “it’s never too late to do the right thing.” it applied to not only zhen and tai lung, but also to po.
shifu wanted po to be like oogway, but po didn’t want to change. but on his journey he took his own advice and decided to choose a new dragon warrior. and he had amazing character growth along the way
oogway could have defeated tai lung at any time. but instead, he let po, his successor, defeat tai lung. in kung fu panda 4, we find out po could’ve beaten the chameleon any time with the staff, but instead, he let zhen, his successor, defeat her, and the story came full circle
shifu wanted po to be like oogway, but po didn’t want to change. in the first kung fu panda, shifu was mad about oogway’s pick for the dragon warrior because nothing about him said dragon or warrior. then po’s pick as the next dragon warrior had the same affect on shifu.
Awkwafina immediately puts me off a movie. Her voice is so annoying and she’s just in literally everything for no reason
Nadia defending this movie by bringing up that it's for kids makes me so sad, because the first two are also for kids and have so much depth, great writing, and a worthwhile story regardless
I personally enjoyed it. Not as deep or groundbreaking as the previous installments, but I thought the characters, animation, jokes made up for the lackluster story. I'd give it a 3.5/5
I think this movie was mid, being a fan of the previous three this one was just extremely bland and unfortunatly doesn't feel necessary, choreography is good as always and tenacious D hit me baby carried this movie for me personally but I just wish they left it at three and left Po's charcter as is which at the end of three felt fitting.
Excited to watch this!
Akwafina voice is really grating while Viola was spot on in casting,
The skadoosh teaching scene was where the film cemented its ending in my mind (Chekhov's gun) where the fox would be the next dragon warrior so I knew I ain't watching no Puss In Boots 2. The film seemed totally risk averse and seemed like a run of the mill continuation of KFP.
You should watch 2
IMO, the film was a little better than Kung Fu Panda 3. But these two films have different strengths and weaknesses.
Kung Fu Panda 4 has a lot more action, better relationship between the Dads, and a more threatening villain, but Kung Fu Panda 3 has Tigress, the beautiful Panda Village, and much better Climax.
Both films do NOT hit the HIGHS of the first two films, especially in the darker elements. Instead, BOTH three and four have a whole crowd of people that don't add much into the plot - except serve as minions for the Heroes. KFP3 has the Panda Village, KFP4 has the underground criminals. But at LEAST the Pandas learn how to heal; the criminals...don't learn to be good.
KFP 4 disrespected what it means to be master. After defeating them so easy w/ her tongue & not by skill sets she obtained.
I remember walking out of the 1rst movie as a kid feeling the same way you describe it for this one, like it was too fast paced with no down time. Dreamworks movies always had this frantic vibe but at the same time they could chill out from time to time. But with this one I felt pretty much pushed around and screamed at for 90 minutes straight. My friends seemed to like it tho.
Theres a 4th movie?
Nah the "silence destruction" has been around for a long time. Compare the dub of Digimon vs the original. 4Kids inserted offscreen voice lines for almost every single still that wasn't on someone's mouth moving.
The digimon dub is so wonky
If you were disappointed with it now, just wait until after you watch 2.
Movie demographics matter and appreciate the mention of that. I don’t know why people think it doesn’t. If I am going to watch Elmo, I won’t have the same expectations as watching Iron Man
Exactly, of an Elmo film I expect no less than a masterpiece
He has a second channel!?
All I can say is “Stop giving them the benefit of the doubt”. That is a ridiculous thing to do. Kids movies should be as good as you can make them. Allowing things to slide because it’s a kids movie is insulting to the kids and does them an extreme disservice.
Ok man carrying thing you gotta see 2 and 3
Jake is 65+ in this one :/ revisit old Fairly Odd Parents they couldn't go half a second in silence.
animated food does look way better in certain media, especially in shokugeki no soma
Kung Fu Panda 3 kinda started feeling more and more like a downhill slope as I watched it, but the villain was enjoyable so I gave it a pass. Just saw 4 and man.. they definitely confirmed my suspicions that they were gonna milk it. I understand it's primarily a kids movie, but I did grow up on the first and second and the second was just a masterpiece. Kung Fu Panda 2 had the perfect level of humor, excitement, conflict, sadness, and a fantastic villain. 4 feels like everything was rushed and there was no development for anything, lots of plot holes and weird moments that just didn't align with the first two films.
final battle was disappointing, that final blow was disappointing, that felt rushed.
Why wouldn't it be?
Tigress got snubbed smh
is the movie really that bad? i liked first 3
It's not bad. It's just very mid. It's ok just no where near as good as the other 3 and the worst thing about it was that the furious 5 was only there for a few seconds.
why is everyone now singling out the first 2 as the best? To me the first one was great and 2 and 3 were good but not nearly as good as the first one. I thought most people were of this opinion as well
without watching the vid, imma go ahead and blame Awkwafina,
She had actually good performance
Yea, tbf their review seemed to showcase franchise exhaustion as the main criticism, but idt I'd enjoy her anyway
Her voice acting was actually not that bad and her character was somewhat likable to me. The movie was pretty enjoyable despite its weaknesses. Maybe give it a try and see for yourself.
E
you can’t judge the fourth movie of a franchise when you haven’t seen the second or third dude 🤦♂️
He just did playa 😎
Exactly.
stop talking about demographics plz this is so marketing BS
