Godzilla as a franchise is so funny to me, because most of the time it’s “big lizard do big punch”, but occasionally it’s “the consequences of modern humanity’s destructive tendencies made manifest in the form of a nigh invincible walking ecological disaster” as a throwback to the first movie.
The difference is American vs Japanese Godzilla. Plenty of the Japanese ones are big lizard do punch, but many of them are the more deep stuff. Every American Godzilla is big lizard and sometimes big monkey
Godzilla and King Kong stared into each others eyes seductively. Time stopped and they their hearts began to hum like a bird. Godzilla kissed King Kongs neck and pinned him to the ground. The houses crushed like aluminium cans on Kongs stomach as Godzilla thrusted his front tail into-
I think jake is spot on with the CGI take here The CGI looks so good because if you stay to watch the credits, you'll see there were massive filming teams for each location, so a ton of those scenes were filmed on location prior to CGI which helps a ton in making it more real
I've honestly enjoyed all of these films except for King of the Monsters. Personal favorite: Kong Skull Island. One of the most violent PG-13 films ever made.
King of the Monsters has flaws definitely but it has its moments of epic godzillaness. I like that it tried to incorporate all the old school Toho characters, love all the monster action in it.
Yes, Peter Jackson’s King Kong is great! Would love a video defending it since a lot of people don’t care for it. I’ve been a lifelong King Kong fan - I saw the original 1933 movie when I was a little kid. I turned 5 when the remake came out and watching it was one of the first cinema experiences I remember loving. My enthusiasm has dulled slightly (I know longer think PJ’s KK is the greatest movie ever made like when I was 5), but I still enjoy it. I honestly didn’t vibe with this new Godzilla x Kong - I found the pacing too erratic and it felt to me like the whole movie was moving in 2x speed - but I’m glad you two enjoyed it
Its amazing how many good movies can be made from just the premise of Godzila vs. King Kong; you know, it's similar to Berserk in some ways. Its amazing how many volumes it has, but it still isn't enough. Also, a story like Berserk needs this much room to expand, which is one of the reasons why I love it. It always makes my day better; you should absolutely try it!! It will make your day better!
Here’s my summary of the Monsterverse movies up to this point, sans the 2014 movie since he’s already seen that. Kong Skull Island: John C Reily and Samuel Jackson steal the show from the human cast, and thankfully they’re around a lot more than Cranston was in Godzilla. This movie is pretty well shot in terms of the monster scenes. Pretty good movie overall. Tentacle spaghetti, that is all. King of the Monsters: Fights continue to be kinda murky, but it is an improvement over the 2014 movie. The focus is more on the monsters and their backstory, and that helps it in spite of its biggest flaw in the human characters. They range from mediocre to painful. King Ghidorah and Mothra are highlights, and the final battle is great. Godzilla vs Kong: Finally they allow fights during the day and you can see the action. Battles are really fun and the lore of Kong is fascinating. The humans… exist.
saw it yesterday, loved it. the audience at out theater was cheering and laughing. it was such a thrill ride. and its dominating the box office right now, on its way, actually it is now expecting to dethrone dune part 2 for the highest opening week of 2024. im so happy for my buddies godzilla and kong. the critics can talk trash on it all they want, they wont stop it from being a box office success.
As someone who didn’t like this movie, I do see the appeal in it. My entire family enjoyed it except for me, but maybe if I watch it again I’ll appreciate it more
Glad you like the film and a lot of people said if you’re Kong fan will love this movie more focus on him so when you said the main storyline really bout Kong you said it right on the money don’t get me wrong I like Godzilla but more with kong and like tag match Godzilla and Kong battle Skar King and the Ice Titian Shimo fun movie
I feel like I saw a different movie than everyone else seeing how easy people are on this. For me this was the worst movie I've seen in theaters since Die Hard 5 more than 10 years ago. I never laughed, I never felt tension, I never felt wowed by any of the visuals. The first time Kong squares up with our villain, he seems totally puny and unimposing.
Damn I really enjoyed Godzilla vs Kong but the new movie's title and trailer really put me off, appeared too cartoonish. Have you guys watched the recent Planet of the Apes series? Really solid movies with similar entertainment value to these Godzillaverse movies. Although I would reccomend watching the original 1968 film before watching the new ones.
Highly recommend you two back and see Godzilla Vs. Kong. Its by the same director as this one and has a lot of the same spirit In reality you can skip skull island and king of the monsters - they dont have the same directive vision, take themselves far too seriously and its before this part of the franchise found its footing.
This series has got too sci-fi fantasy magical mystical for me personally. I know its big monke vs big lizard but I miss the groundedness of 2014's Godzilla. I can't get on board with all this hollow earth shit. This franchise has lost all of its verisimilitude for me and I've just stopped caring about anything I'm seeing. Godzilla suplexed Kong though that was hilarious. 4/10 Also I hate baby Kong in the way people hate the Ice Age baby
Even with the title I fully expected jake to be like, “yeah it sucks”
Who’s Jake? The dog on his lap?

gonna watch them all soon!

Don’t blow your back out carrying Jake, Nadia. You’re carrying the team here obviously. ;P
Skull island is kino. It’s the best out of all the monsterverse movies.

I feel like Adam Wingard has finally found his calling with Kaiju cinema. Hope he makes more movies like this

Y'all gotta watch Godzilla vs Kong, it's delightful and even more svelte
I fully expect it to be like the first GodziKong movie: dumb fun
Seeing a big monkey sucker punch big lizards never gets old
I love Kong getting his tooth pulled out in the beginning of the movie.

I can’t understate how great of a time my friends and I had watching this. Awful movie, but we genuinely enjoyed the entire thing 😅
It's Kongin time!

it was so mf good.
“How to pronounce Godzilla x Kong” The X is silent. No, seriously! XD
Godzilla ex-con, big disgusting predator, Weinstein of all monsters.
I would watch this movie, but alas, I am an Intellectual Tokusatsu Connoisseur with actual fucking TASTE and CLASS.

It was honestly very forgettable for me which is worst thing that can happen viewing any film
Should we warn them the other monsterverse films are not nearly this good? Don’t get me wrong, I love my dudeflicks, but this one was FAR superior
Nah skull island and GVK are as good as this if not better.
First!
