yeah the reviews that just say it was uneeded so its worthless is dumb since Kung-Fu Panda 3 was uneeded but its one the highest grossing films in China o@@alexisdogbo7958
A part of me is convinced that Sony was so embarrassed about Madame Web that they slipped Universal like a hundred million dollars to release their worse, more unfinished superhero movie the same month to distract everybody
I remember thinking the original Megamind was a nice, fresh subversive take on the superhero genre well before anyone was talking about Deadpool. No one else saw it. The idea that Universal is trying to cash in on an animated film that no one saw is par for the course... but you'd expect it to just as easily be another minions adventure. Dragging this IP back out to have a generic superhero story seems like they're purposely trying to condemn the quality of the first one.
I feel like this something that got greenlit with the expectation that the funding would come from the growth of peacock as a subscription service but because universally that subscription service market is getting over saturated that the budget for this got slashed and they decided to just push a bare minimum product.
That sounds like it would make a lot of sense. Because it seems crazy that they could go into it with that budget thinking that they could create literally anything even close to being passable

The goal wasn't to make a good product, it was to profit off of nostalgia and trust garnered from the first movie. It's bewildering that this movie came from the same studio capable of making Puss in Boots 2, which is what I would consider a near perfect sequel for a childrens animation movie. That was just 2 years ago.
Was this some sort of "Have to make content to keep the license active" type of thing? Not that it excuses poor writing/production values... But I just can't see why they chose this franchise to add filler content to their streaming service when they could just choose -insert random cute anthro hero here- to make yet another kids animation. Ugh. So sad. It makes me feel bad for the team who had to write/animate/voice act this. I've worked on projects I am not proud of, but damn... This would not make my resume if I had been a part of it. It would just be a line item for "3d animator on childrens streaming movie" or something generic and then hope they didn't ask for details.
It's amazing that someone thought this would be a good way to make people want to watch the series... It's pretty similar to the 2016 remake of the Berserk anime, but in that scenario, hopefully everyone already knows that it's bad and that they should read the manga instead. OOH btw you should really read the manga and make a review out of it, it would be really funny haha
i've had the " this has to be bad on purpose for online interaction = clicks = admoney " conspiritorial ideas too for some of the Movies/Shows (cough mickey mouse COUGH COUGH) for about 4 years now. Although i try to not say it out in public and stuff; but even some of my friends are starting to tell me... " you know i thought u wer crazy dude, but i can see your point now. " I was blackpilled for sure for a few years there... then i guess you kinda get tired of the cynical view of the world. But man , sh*t has been kinda crazy lol. I am just thankful i am alive, have friends to talk bout this stuff with, and spring is finally coming around. 2024 could be it folks, grab a drink with a friend and smoke em if ya got em.
You know what? I refuse to watch it. The first Megamind is my favorite superhero movie ever, I don't want to have it ruined and all the reviews that have been coming out about this one are scaring me.
The original film stood up perfectly on its own, they didn't need a sequel over a decade later.
