There’s a twist in the sense that there are no games included but like an original Candy Cab, it supports JAMMA! So this is fascinating for both the home arcade audience and the arcade enthusiast.

I am so excited for this candy cab. I am selling A1ups to make room and defer some of the coming cost.
0:55 Dude, YES! I’ve been asking for this for years, and was even tempted to crowdfund it. Glad someone with deeper pockets than me did a 4:3 / 5:4 LCD replacement!!!
So no candy, I'm out.
🤣🤣🤣
Put the candy inside it yourself
Rad!
Thanks for watching bro! ✊🏻
I love candy cabs! Actually I'm a fan of any arcade machines, it's a big part of my childhood.
This is an effin game changer. If it can handle Jamma and JVS and anything 15khz to med res to VGA then this will be everything A1up wishes it was. Hope it rotates well too, i have a NebulasRay PCB I can't play properly and would love to put this in it.
I think a good console to put in this would be the Wii. 4:3 with an extensive set of emulators. OG XBox would work well too. A Mister would be fantastic though.
Sounds cool (and expensive!). This just underscores how the "home arcade" market is inching closer and closer to maybe a 90% full-size scale, which only makes sense. Of course, this will be a niche product that will only reach a fraction of the potential market of an Arcade1Up, but congrats to Unico for daring to sell to that smaller subset. If this had come out 6 years ago before I went the dedicated cab route, I would have stuck an Atomiswave, MVS, or Hyper 64 motherboard in it and called it a day!
Looks like a pretty rad cab. Will have to see the cost for sure
My prediction of my reaction regardless of price: OH! Very reasonable!
Followed by the shipping cost: I see... How much does sanwa sticks and buttons run for? and how much do lumber cost these days?
Ok Ralph, today these beauties opened the door for Australian preorders. I took the plunge $2300 Australian. Now as long as this isn’t an AE Light Gun I’ll be very happy. We value your opinion dude & love your content. I cannot wait for this.
Awesome! But in Japanese, isn't "TATE" mode pronounced "TAH-TAY" ?
I believe so 👍
I pronounce a lot of things wrong, I grew up in Rhode Island... LOL. You have to cut me some slack, but thanks for letting me know. I also appreciate you watching!
Big question is how good is the monitor? Gotta see in person
Hopefully an upgrade to the one they are selling ATM, only one on the market at the bigger size but has many flaws and not as advertised.
Really love the barebones and modular concept. The timing is also interesting, as I'm moving to natively target ARM based systems for upcoming arcade games, like the Raspberry Pi or GRS Viper, which I guess many will use to power this cab.
Also look forward to see how well this runs with original JAMMA boards.
Dude, this looks freaking RAD! I've been wanting to get a Vewlix but this might be a good alternative or gateway for like you said to test a variety of platforms out. I'm also curious on the dimensions of the cab.
Exciting times for sure!
This would be perfect for that
I asked for the dimensions, If I get them, I will let you know and update here and in the video description. Thanks so much for watching!
@@RetroRalph Thanks my brotha!
It legit does sound cool, I’m sure it won’t be perfect but if the price is right 1299 or under then this unit will do well.
I think $1300 would be the sweet spot for sure!
I hope it comes in black
I have a huge jamma PCB collection that I used with 3 candy cabs. When I moved to Mexico I had to get rid of the cabs but I kept the PCBs. This would be perfect for me if they will ship to Mexico.
Do you know if Unico ships the MVSX to Mexico? 🇲🇽 If so, I would imagine this would as well. I’m going to ask for you though and see if I can get an answer for ya. Thanks for watching brother! That’s cool that you kept your PCB collection! ✊🏻 how many do you have?
@@RetroRalph I have too many 😂 probably around 250 jamma PCBs. I had 3 candy cabs and would constantly rotate games between them.
@@worstJago damn man, I would love to see them all, that’s awesome!!!
If they handle the shipping situation it should be doable.
@@jaymason9888 I have no problem at all paying all of the shipping. Hope I can get one :)
I think if a company came out with a modern 4:3 1440p 60hz VRR monitor.. give it a nice system for rotating the display.. Id buy one o these all day for my MiSTer!! VRR on a high response 60hz VRR display looks amazing!! Can still take this even further w black frame insertion, but I’ll settle w VRR first.
I think it’s a great idea and love the fact they’re using Sanwa parts. I’m just amazed this hasn’t been done before.
Oh man, this is one I would never stop playing :) Cheers and rock on!
Unico removed the product from their page.. there's monitor info but nothing else.
It was never on their page, it's pre-release info, it should be posted soon. I will provide an update when it's posted. I believe they're still figuring out some last minute design ideas and pricing. Stay Tuned...
Gotcha. My bad. I saw most of this information on their facebook and other sources. I just assumed nfo you were referencing in your video was in their link you posted. @@RetroRalph
Very interested in this. Great multi-cab option. Gradius 2 on this would be biblical.
I agree, thanks for watching bro!
I love the idea of what this offers, but trying to wrap my mind around the ULM26 LCD given the concerns others have had with the resolution and support from Unico. I thought I read somewhere UNICO was planning a ULM26 Pro but can't find any information about it so that was probably a fever dream I had. If they did a ULM26 Pro w/ the originally advertised with 1600x1200 4:3 I'd be jumping on this...
Thought honestly with the old arcade games I want to play from MiSTer, it would probably be good enough and I could get over myself...
Take this with a grain of salt till they deliver, but they said the LCD in the Nova Blast will be the new one that supports the original "advertised" specs. I think we should all proceed with caution though till we see that actually happen. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!
$1500 will be the base price from what Unico said last year, but could be lower depending on how much interest it gets during the development time. Ouch :/ might as well try to get a viewlix
Whenever you mentioned the issue with 16:9 consoles in the 4:3 systems, the FIRST THING I immediately thought was...
Arcade Archives and ports, even if they are of course made with 16:9 in mind, proper ports support the option to re-scale the screen as you might need to, so even if new consoles aren't necessarily a priority, there is still a HUGE library of stuff to use in them.
Hell, stuff like the 360, which I still use frequently, has the 4:3 option, and most of the best games like Street Fighter IV actually use that aspect ratio, like it did back when it was new.
Really digging this!
This looks very cool, and thanks for letting us know. It's always good to have options and such. 🔥🔥🔥
So awesome!! I'm totally buying this
I'm quite surprised no home arcade manufacturer has offered full size (empty) reproduction arcade cabinets. People can buy arcade cabinets from their childhood, and put whatever hardware they want inside them.
I would really like to buy new Neo Geo reproduction cabinet. Or maybe even a Capcom Big Blue. But its difficult to find old arcade cabinets in my area. I'm also not good at woodworking to fix the few I have found.
Having a fresh template to work with would be a great idea.
Someone was offering up reproduction empty Capcom mini cutes a while back, looked lovely but they weren’t cheap
I guarantee you it's going to be expensive. No way it will be priced like an Arcade1up cabinet. I would be shockingly surprised if it's less than $1000.
better parts plus molded plastics sagree
Haha love 0:04 love that SFGE stock footage 🤘🏼🔥🔥🤘🏼I have almost that same shot.
Good to see you killing it bro!!
I'll sub if you become that news guy that rushes to the computer Right Away to make a video!!
Oh nevermind, im subbed already..
Bah.... fine, you win..😅
LMAO! Thanks brother! Yeah, it's to much pressure being the "news guy" but I might incorporate a bit more of that on the channel in 2024, we'll see. Thanks again for the support man, it's much apprecaited!
@@RetroRalph I Hear That!
The Channel Is Perfect! & Should Continue To Grow Well For Years To Come As Is!!
Happy Holidays!!!
Yeah that looks great! I know you only like real hardware... but running a PC in their with fightcade seems like it be pretty sweet too
This and mister could be a match made in heaven
These look awesome. Super interested and will stay tuned for more info on this product. 👀
very cool! 1st Japanese cab to usa market, arcade 1 up dropped the ball.
Unico’s MvsX was near perfect. Only thing they screwed up to me was the control layout. Bad buttons and not a true NeoGeo layout.
This actually looks great and i’d throw my mister in there in a heartbeat beat.
it really needed a 2.0 version. Besides that there were a few other improvements such as ..better volume button (not a knob), not having the power in the back, having the speakers on the top, 4:3 monitor, no mini coin door
i have a bunch of jamma pcb i could blip into one of these 😈
i want a bigger monitor than whats on the mvsx though esp for vertical games
Great video, looks like a cool option. Would they sell me just the 26'' monitor?
It is already available for purchase
Cool!@@SP95
1024x768 version is for sale currently our new pro is 1920x1440 is not and will be in the Nova Blast.
Thanks Jay for being in the comments answering questions, it's much appreciated!
Here's a link to the Unico Monitors: www.unico-usa.com/products/ulm26-unico-phoenix-series-of-arcade-crt-replacement-lcd-monitors
I said 10 years ago when wide screen 16:9 LCD TVs were popular, why hasn't a company made 4:3 LCD replacement arcade monitors? Yea, Yea, I get the purist ideology, but I think the upkeep on CRTs as they age gets tedious after a while and troubleshooting can be a nightmare which we've all seen. So, good for those guys!
Game changer! I've been waiting for a light weight home candy cabinet like this. Surprised it took this long. I really like you can rotate the screen vertical or horizontal. Is it easy to rotate, like just push a button? Also I'm liking the dial for games like Arkanoid and maybe driving games.
Looks cool, im always worried about how to get one working. Theres always so much BS u got to have knowledge about thats not covered with alot of arcades.
Why would you want a 16:9 LCD on a retro oriented product? Almost every company are doing 16:9, it's rare to finally see one with 4:3. That's a FEATURE, not a "falls off the train track". Why would you run modern console on this? It's like saying you want to run a PS5 on my genuine CRT candy cab. I applaud them for finding a 4:3 monitor and using genuine Sanwa parts.
I wanted to buy a viewlix but I dont know where to buy and how to ship. I wish you could make a video with your experience buying your viewlix and getting it shipped. Anyway the unico nova is a good option for those who cant find a viewlix or chewlix. Sad :(
great vid. just realized they have two versions. U2 vs U4. seems to me are speakers and marquee placements. U4 has bigger speakers ? any new info on this ? Thanks.
Ordered a U2 unit today. This is exactly what I wanted. Been looking at Astro and Blast cities but they’re super finicky and have terrible reputations for reliability of their tubes and power supplies. I can use my Naomi 2, MVS, CPS2 and Namco boards on this and it’ll be new, high quality and reliable. I do wish I could have a tube, but hey can’t win em all. And this is a fraction of the price. Very excited.
Stupid to buy something this expensive and made this cheap. Especially when it comes with zero games. Just get a nice desktop for games and buy a nice control deck for arcades
What version of Contra was that!?
Contra: Evolution
Honestly wouldn’t the iircade pass for a candy cab if the marquee lit up? With mysterycoder’s board you can now load whatever you want..it’s pretty much the same style and appearance.
Nice they are doing this.
Candy cabs are nearly impossible to find now and even harder to find in really great condition.
Most have been used, and abused and are dirty and grimy.
Nice to be able to a buy a really nice brand new one like this.
so maybe 1000 plus for a shell? can sum won please tell me whats special about it? can i use it for long term business using ps5 example? --will the ps5 hold up to 24 hous per day use?
Public service announcement: 'tate' (vertical screen orientation) is pronounced 'ta-teh'. Cheers.
Looks very different and interesting. I wonder what games it can run? all arcade, consoles up to Dreamcast? more? Also, how many games can you add to it? has its own storage, or do you use your own PC, USB, etc - Excellent video Ralph, thanks for sharing this with us :)
It’s completely up to what hardware you put in there. There’s only input to the monitor, no hardware inside. I plan on putting in a miniPC in there and using Batocera as my front end.
Looks like it's not very durable looking a the photos.
What's the monitor inside? Do these monitor actually display low res or upscale?
Interesting product, but the have to swap out the electronics for the screen if it's the same as the one in their monitors sold separately. Those were trash.
Looking like an awesome product have to wait and see some hands on reviews
Very cool. It would be perfect if it were also available in Germany. 😉
It’s getting better but still, if there’s no crt filter able to recreate the real look and feel of the 15khz games, I’ll take a rain check.
The Jamma and horizontal/vertical configurability makes this very interesting. I was thinking same range on the price. Great test bed for sure. In my case, I'd put a BitKit in it, so being able to swap out a single player CP would be great, but that gets away from the candy cab feel... Interesting to see what develops. Thanks Ralph!
Thanks for watching brother, It's for sure one of the most interesting things to come out in quite some time. It will be cool to see how this develops. Thanks again my friend!
@@RetroRalph For sure. Something like this feels way more "Pro" than other offerings we've seen.
I really like your idea re the CP - I wonder if anyone offers a modular CP capability with their cabs?
@@patbreen3859 We'll have to see if the product has a mod-able panel there, or if the holes are directly into the metal/plastic/fiberglass and is integrated into the structure. Didn't look for seems in the pictures yet.
@@slinger2112 what were working on is having that CPO plate be a 1:1 to a real Astro City panel/ Sega panels. remove and replace if you wish.
I’ll be buying this on day one…been looking for a Vewlix for about a year.
If your assessment of the price is correct, it could be really cool.
Not a fan of that button layout though. And I wish the screen was 16:9.
Being a traditionalist and a fan of the absolute craftsmanship we have in the states... i kinda hate Candy cabs lol. That one's kinda sexy though... only because it's yours Ralph.
pretty sure 1440 is the best resolution to use for full screen high res integer scaling when coming from 240.. nice! should be a dream w somethn like a MiSTer! VRR support would make it nxt level!
Unfortunately VRR would drive the price but something definitely for the future.
Great news from Unico, this looks awesome, can't wait to hear pricing!
I'm interested if it can give me a similar feel to a real candy cab. That screen better be good cause crts are my love.
$700-$1000
looks poopy and for the price you can just get yourself a vewlix
This looks amazing, I'm just worried about the screen. I don't want to see all my CPS and Neo Geo games all pixelated and nasty looking like the arcade one up. I hope they have scan line options or some kind of CRT filters
This is just the cab shell and screen, any options for scan lines or filters would have to come from the hardware you install.
I like the modular design, and the ability to easily flip the screen both horizontally and vertically. I've been wanting Unico's MVSX table-top cab for the longest.
If i had the room.... hook up a couple of VS boards... my pc10 i would be in heaven... its no red tent but close enough... i could paint it red... like Todd your giving me ideas to drain my bank account. Damn it. I still like to see how that MiSTER setup works.
Yeah, I'm really interested in seeing how it will talk to an FPGA device.
I wish the joystick went from 4 to 8 way by the game you play.
Thanks for the information. I'll be on the look out for updates.
I think its a winner!!! Thanks for the video
But how would they ensure that the stick and buttons work with the console put in?
Have a great Thanksgiving, Ralph play a few rounds of Streets of Rage for me 🤘
You too brother! I will without question rock out some streets of Rage in your honor! Thanks so much for watching my friend!
If orders are shipping direct from overseas, gonna be even more spensive.
Hope the monitor has zero latency if the price tag is over a G.
Nice set up. Okay so I thought it was just a table top clearly I was wrong. But this is cool looking af. The one I told you about is a table top. From arcades r fun. This looks like a nifty little device.
Nifty - yeah, Little? absolutely not!
@@neocvera yeah I didnt know it was a full cabinet that could be disconnected. I thought it was just a table top.
I've been getting pretty hyped about this since I saw the first leaks!
Where the hell did they find a 26" lcd with 4:3 ratio?
Would nice to be able to buy one without the base at a cheaper price.
Def interested. I would also put a MiSTer in it. I saw you post this on X and I also found the user on reddit. Looking to see more info.
Thanks for taking the time to comment man and I appreciate you watching! More info should be trickling out over the next few weeks for sure. I will post whatever updates I get as soon as I get them. Thanks again for the support!
this is cool and cash cabs are so expensive as they are
Very interesting, could be very cool
Didn't Unico became Uniana? I recall the name change as far back as 2001 when they released Frenzy Express as an arcade game.
Wow awesome good for them
I would take one for my collection
What contra game was that at the start?
Well damn, Ralph. This didn't take long. 😅
I told you... haha. You asked, I delivered. :-) I aim to please my friend! I hope all is well brother!
Nice!
Thank YOU man, this is such a cool idea, and it appears so far that it's done right! Thank you man!
@@RetroRalph I'm really excited about this project. I hope a lot of people are as well.
@@neocvera So am I man, thanks for leading the charge on this one and brining something unique and different to the space!
Probably more than 1500
This looks very tasty... Wonder if it's possible to retro-mod it with a CRT :D
No way a CRT is fitting inside that slim profile.
I love that you have an image of MVC2 running on a candy cab in the background as that’s exactly what I’d put in something like this if I could ever get one.
Im deciding what I’ll put in there either MVC1, 2, street fighter 3 3rd strike or raiden vertically.
@famfigueroa3917 We have similar tastes lol. 3S would definitely be a close runner up in my decisions, or possibly Raiden as well
I think I'd put VF4 inside one
One of these candy cabs would be pretty interesting if they had a high resolution OLED display paired with an upscaler (like the RetroTink 4K) using simulated scanlines and CRT phosphors, alongside having black frame insertion.
Candy cabs look really cool, but the CRT look with clear and crisp visuals really kind of makes it special. OLED currently gets to around 90% of what a CRT can currently do, while LCDs are an immediate downgrade.
Compared to a price of a high-end PC though, the price isn’t super terrible.
I would take this without the LCD UNLESS they can upgrade it to a like size OLED. To me this is unplayable without screen tech. that can do pure blacks. LCD's are a garbage tech. compared to CRT that was only adapted due to being a flatter screen.
So when are we gonna see drop in OLED screen replacements for arcade machines?
Most CRTs are not even well tuned to show true deep blacks and will show a glowing purple/greyish tint instead.
First generation TN LCDs were indeed not great and VA panels too to some extent but last gen IPS displays are fine.
OLED displays of this size are not supposed to come within this decade but the chassis is here to stay.
@@SP95 If they can't offer a perfect picture for entertainment it isn't generally worth bothering with. Exceptions are watching news or having a projector for 3D for something like "Cave Of Forgotten Dreams" to help increase the immersion element.
You said well tuned but they CAN be fixed to do Deep Blacks. With LCD's they fundamentally can't, it is a huge limitation of the tech.
Why can't OLED's of that size come with this decade? All they need to do is be 480p, they don't NEED to be 4K and that would be a HUGE waste. Unless you want to play HD games which kind of defeats the purpose as like 95-99% of the games you would want for this are 480p and below. Given some of the factory equipment we now have for OLED's I believe for most producing big screens we might even be able to get like 3-4 480p or 720p OLED's at 26".
The only thing is there is no trackball for vertical. Or, am I missing it?
It's possible in future for interchangeable control panel accessories. As the panel does unscrew for easy access.
No trackball options that I know of.
Ironically the 26” lcd screen is available separately and has major issues with arcade PCBs. Really wondering about the quality of this product.
Until that unico monitor gets a firmware fix for true 1600x1200 resolution id wait. The dream would be to get an oled 4:3 monitor but who knows if that will ever happen. Also if price is around 1-1.5k not much price difference from getting a modern namco noir, vewlix or Pras imported from japan. Its an interesting product for sure but unless the monitor gets the firmware/ latency sorted out then it will be a hard sell
