    Fantastic video! One slight correction - the engine start is electric. The Q400 has starter/generator units which switch from a starter to a generator when the NH reaches 50% during start. This is why it is important to check the voltages prior to start. The reason for the bleed coming off prior to start is to minimise load on the APU and prioritise electric power generation for the start.

    As a no-pilot I was following the entire walking through procedure to learn what all this cockpit displays/monitos/knowbs and panels are builded for.
    As a synthesizer-nerd I like to know the overall routing architecture of my machinery and the workflow and how I need to proceed and act and perform...
    And as an ex-Event Manager and lector in a school for applied communications skills I like very much the VERY IMPORTANT procedures/protocols/checklists to ensure myself I'll perform all - what needs to be done to succeed - correctly. The same is for Emergency Surgical Units Procedures and Red Cross Interventions... all based on trainings, simulations etc... with no nonsense know how and savoir faire information.
    I liked your entire explanation very much... about a field of expertise in which their is no much place and space for improvisation... only in high unusual conditioon like captain Sully landing his plane on the Hudson River and all similar high unusual situations/conditions where deep insight views are required every single moment of that crisis.
    Well done : 👌👍👏👏👏

    That might be a fighterism, though.

    In the Weight and Balance section in the Control Panel, you should enter the value for Release Fuel or Block Fuel in the T/O FUEL box because the value you enter there will be the value of fuel loaded into the aircraft. Which you need to be MIN T/O + TAXI + RELEASE.

    Thank you for this. I have been flying the Q400 for a while and the video fills in some blanks for me. I find the aircraft to be very rear heavy and even if I have the bulk of the weight forward in the control panel, I still need a lot of forward pressure on the yoke to avoid going into a stall on takeoff. Is this a particular trait of the aircraft, or do you think I am doing something wrong?

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  5 років тому +1

      You’re welcome! Yes it’s quite powerful on takeoff, so you will need quite a bit of forward pressure. Make sure you use reduced takeoff performance when the runway is long enough and when you’re not fully loaded. Also put the trim in the upper section of the white takeoff band. Other than that, the trim moves quite slowly, so it may take a while before you find a good trim setting :)

The next time you load it, you will find the plane cold and dark." I hope this helps.
