    My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Bayviews GC on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne and the Lang Lang GC in South Gippsland (both an hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.
    FAQ:
    How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
    Why do you make videos for UA-cam? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
    Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
    So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
    What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
    What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
    Do you make money off UA-cam? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
    I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/thegolfdoctor
    Thanks for watching!

    Hi Brian,
    Great advice and timely reminder how important it is to practice your putting fundamentals.
    Especially when your consider it is a third of your score.
    Really enjoyed it Brian.

      Thanks Joe.
      It’s all about getting back to basics and checking them often. As I said in the video Cam Smith checks his putting basics every day.
      It’s so simple to do.
      Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

    Thanks, Brian. 24 putts on the front 9 this morning, until I finally realised that my alignment was off with my shortish putts. Huge improvement on the back 9.

      @@fitzygolfpro Having extracted the digit and spent two hours on the putting mat, I found that I didn't have the putter lying flat on the deck. Once I corrected this , the putts were rolling much more consistently . Thanks for your continued help !

    Excellent job Brian in offering four different putting drills to improve one's putting! I have gone to lining up the line on the ball to the hole and it has definitely improved my putting stats. There are other suggestions of yours that I have implemented as well, which you already know about. Always enjoy your input Brian!

      @@fitzygolfpro Thank You Kind Sir! Yes, I do spend a lot of time putting on my putting strip in our exercise room. Most of all though, I've put into practice your "pressure thumbs" and using the right hand takeaway stroke suggestion which has really helped me.

    Solid advice! I managed a round yesterday (still recovering a broken finger), and was quite happy to walk away with a 95 despite being 6 over handicap. Was amazed how much different it was not closing the middle digit on right hand fully, couldn't close the clubface. Took a couple of holes to realise and work with a fade (normal iron shape is a draw), but it actually felt really nice and taught me a new feel. I might check out your new cooking channel, you might be a doc to fix my golf, but you'd need to be a magician to teach me how to cook ;)

    • @fitzygolfpro

      Well done on that discovery Adi and I am glad you will file that feel away.
      There is no cooking involved in making butter and that’s my second video on the new channel.
      You just need a stand mixer.
      There will be something you can do so stay tuned.

    Hey Brian I played back 9 at Lang Lang today, scored 15 over 9 but I put your ''Longer backswing, shorter follow through'' into practise for longer putts and made 2 putts I wouldn't have made otherwise so I probably owe you a beer mate. Hope to see you on the course someday soon, will definitely come and say gday!

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  10 місяців тому

      Well done.
      It just takes a bit of getting used to it.
      Almost all PGA tour players use this method but the best example of that putting stroke is Cam Smith.
      The beer won’t be necessary. I’m there most Fridays. It will be great to FaceMail (talk in person) 😀

    1. like to string drill, helps focus, and can also use string drill along break line so can see if square to break.
    2. Do different putter configurations, ie plumber neck, blade, mallet type effect the aim ability.

      Hi Geoff.
      You are right about your first point.
      With regards to your second point or question is yes they can but on an individual basis.
      As a general rule there is not one that is better for a group of people.
      I hope that makes sense.

    Nice Brian,
    My eyes lie to me as an older guy. When I settle over the ball about to putt, my eyes tell me I'm going to hit it straight in the hole where in fact I hit it left (left hanger). The only guaranteed way for me to ensure I hit the ball straight is exactly what you suggest is to use the lines on the ball to line it up to the hole otherwise my eyes will tell me otherwise, and I then make a late adjustment not trusting my intention. When I use the lines on the ball, then settle over the ball my eyes tell me I'm going to miss, but if I trust this line then more often than not it goes in. It's when the brain kicks in and say "NO you are going to miss" that late adjustment half way through the stroke will cost me dearly. However, when I am not hitting straight at the hole, say on an angled slope I am able to look at the intended line and be far more successful than that short straight one. It must be my eyes are not looking straight at the hole. If I was an optometrist, I'd playing of scratch :)
    🙄

    Love putting, a good day putting on the greens = a good round of golf. 2 or 3 single putts and the rest 2 putts. That for me is a great day at golf. 3 or 4 triple putts and I've had a rough day. Putt for dough, is as true as it gets because everything else is for show

    • @fitzygolfpro

      Good stuff. It does set the tone for everything that’s for sure.
      I try to have a lot of good to average days and try and turn the bad into average more than just holing more putts although that is good.

    I am constantly over-reading the lie on the green for the short putts.

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  10 місяців тому

      Hi Fred there is a couple of things here I can suggest.
      Do you train your green reading?
      99.9% of people don't.
      You could download a free spirit level app for your phone (I use bubble level) and you can educate yourself on what a 1, 2, 3 and 4 degree slope feels like and looks like.
      The other thing to consider would be trying different paces for your shorter putts. Firm, medium and gentle and that will help you as well.
      I have devised a putting drill that can help you from 3 feet as well.
      The link is below.
      ua-cam.com/video/ziEknQECU_w/v-deo.html
      Let me know how it goes.

    Why not instead of swinging the putter, run it flush and straight by moving simply the arms and shoulders.

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  9 місяців тому

      Arms and shoulders have no feel.
      Try throwing a ball with just the arms and shoulders

    • @atfinthehouse8631
      @atfinthehouse8631 9 місяців тому

      ??? You are looking down at the ball. You are gripping a club. You are swaying your body and following a very simple flat path. Head of putter face meets ball and moves it forward. You can see how far the club moves back then forward. You can see and feel how fast it moves to hit the ball imparting the speed. Much less complicated than a pendulum swing. Much greater control and feel. Go ahead give it a try. Good luck. Keep up with the good videos. Golf’s about learning and trying. Simplify things.
